Chapter Forty-Four: Huluwa Save...
On the other side, standing in the shadows, Bai Luo's relaxed expression changed the moment he heard those words.
Bai Chu was in trouble?
Strucker clearly had no idea that Bai Luo was completely unaware of this situation. He was simply deducing based on common sense and what Bai Luo had said earlier, firmly believing that Bai Luo was clinging to him because he thought Bai Chu was in his hands.
However, Bai Luo did not immediately reveal his ignorance about Bai Chu's predicament. Instead, he spoke in a low voice, "William Stryker."
Upon hearing Bai Luo's voice, Strucker finally let out a slight sigh of relief. He couldn't help it; the impending call combined with the girl's laughter felt quite terrifying. Even though he knew it was Bai Luo playing tricks, his feelings were akin to those in a horror movie.
Strucker replied, "I'm telling the truth. I don't know where Bai Chu is right now, whether dead or alive. It has nothing to do with me."
"Whether it has anything to do with you or not, my target today is you," Bai Luo stated. "I want you. You have two choices: first, have all your men withdraw and come out yourself; second, die."
Everyone had witnessed Bai Luo's strength just moments ago; his words were far from empty threats.
Strucker fell silent.
He held the phone tightly, staring into the surrounding darkness for a long time before giving a few brief orders and stepping out from the crowd. It was evident that Strucker's expression was quite grim—he had personally entered the fray and ended up ensnared; it was no surprise that he looked so troubled.
After that, the soldiers began to retreat swiftly. These were truly well-trained soldiers; once Strucker gave the command, they started to pull back.
Even the soldiers from the Mutant School began their withdrawal. Death Woman, supported by others, staggered out; she was covered in blood and seemed to be on the verge of unconsciousness.
Throughout this process, Bai Luo remained hidden in the shadows, watching them retreat little by little before finally stepping out.
He understood that Strucker would not simply give up; after all, he had military power backing him. It was unlikely that Strucker would surrender without a fight. Although it appeared that his men were withdrawing now, Bai Luo knew that within moments, even stronger military forces would inevitably arrive.
Yet, Bai Luo decided not to linger any longer.
He emerged directly from the darkness, lifting the short and stout Strucker as if he were a chicken, and returned to the Mutant School. Just then, he ran into Logan, who had come back looking for him. Upon seeing Bai Luo holding Strucker, Logan's expression showed a hint of disbelief; he truly hadn't expected Bai Luo to be able to capture Strucker.
Bai Luo tossed Strucker to Logan and said, "Strucker, my sister is in trouble—what exactly happened?"
Bai Luo spoke without any regard for Strucker's presence, and upon hearing those words, Strucker's eyes nearly bulged out of his head.
Logan fell into a moment of silence after hearing Bai Luo's words. After a moment of thought, he replied, "Bai Chu... has gone missing."
With Strucker's earlier statement in mind, Bai Luo was somewhat prepared for this news. However, hearing Logan confirm it still made her heart sink.
Logan glanced at her and said, "That was over ten years ago. I hadn't yet arrived at Charles' school back then, so I don't know much about the situation. But what I do know is that after you disappeared during the Kansas City Incident, Bai Chu seemed to have been very worried. I heard from Qin; her ability is quite unique. She seems to be able to observe life forms in our dimension from another layer of reality, possessing a searching ability similar to Charles'. Initially, she thought you had just run off somewhere for fun, but later on, as her powers grew stronger, she realized you were truly missing. She went almost mad trying to find you. She left the school and traveled to many places, but eventually, someone saw her fighting with someone near Kansas before she completely vanished."
Bai Luo looked at him and asked, "Can Charles locate her position?"
As the world's strongest psychic Ability User, Charles could precisely locate any mutant on this planet using the Brainwave Amplifier. This was also why Strucker had captured Charles—he wanted to use Charles' ability to eliminate all mutants on this planet in one fell swoop.
However, this time Logan shook his head and said, "I’m not sure about that. I only found out later that Bai Chu was your sister—after all, she had already left the school by the time I arrived."
Bai Luo shot him a glance and said, "Logan, your lies are really terrible."
Logan felt a bit awkward; he opened his mouth as if wanting to explain himself but Bai Luo waved her hand dismissively, signaling him not to continue.
She understood that since Logan wanted to deceive her, it meant he only knew this much. There was no point in asking further.
Yet Bai Luo's mood was exceptionally grim. Hearing this news felt worse than having lost twenty years in the blink of an eye.
Although Bai Chu wasn't an important character in any movie or storyline, she was a living person who existed alongside Bai Luo—one of the few true relatives he had in this world.
Only she would go to great lengths to search for him after his disappearance.
At this moment, even Charles couldn't locate her presence. Did that mean...
Bai Luo dared not think further; an inexplicable heaviness weighed down on her heart.
On the other side, Strucker began to laugh. He looked at Logan and Bai Luo, chuckling heartily. When Bai Luo's cold gaze turned toward him, he slightly restrained his laughter and said, "She’s dead, and her abilities can’t shield her from detection, yet even Charles couldn’t locate her… this implies a possibility, ha ha…”
In response to his laughter, Bai Luo delivered a punch with ironclad resolve. He turned to Logan and said, "We need to leave immediately."
This was exactly what Logan was thinking. Although Strucker's army had retreated, the location of the Mutant School had been exposed, making it a dangerous place.
They quickly made their way through the safe passage. Rascal and the others had been waiting for a long time, while Lorna remained unconscious, her eyes tightly shut as if trapped in a nightmare. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, revealing signs of unease and exhaustion.
They found a motel to temporarily hide from the storm, booking two rooms in total. As Logan took Strucker into one room for interrogation, the rest squeezed into the other.
Bai Luo suggested that Logan interrogate Strucker first. He understood the longstanding enmity between Logan and Strucker; rather than revealing everything during future battles, it was better for Logan to clarify the situation now while things were stable.
As for where the professor was at this moment, Bai Luo, being a traveler from another world, certainly knew well enough.
