Chapter Fifty-One: I Want to Show Off
The Chatty Sniper seemed intent on letting Tony Stark hear his conversation with Bai Luo, and he also wanted Bai Luo to hear Tony's voice, so he placed the two phones together.
This guy had definitely realized that Bai Luo was here for Tony.
Therefore, Bai Luo was not shy about his intentions. He laughed and said, "Who I am doesn't matter; what matters is what I want to do—Tony Stark, the unfortunate soul dragged into a family feud by his uncle is now a prominent figure. Although no one cares about his well-being, he can't really die."
Upon hearing this, Tony could no longer hold back and said, "While I appreciate your attempt to save my life, could you please watch your words?"
Before Bai Luo could respond, the Chatty Sniper chuckled and then slightly restrained his laughter. "I never intended to kill Mr. Stark. His life and death are in his own hands."
Tony replied, "What do you mean by 'in my own hands'? Right now, I’m stuck in a glass phone booth with two groups of people ready to fight each other!"
"No, you still don't understand. I'm not calling you to ask you to spare anyone." Bai Luo began to rise from his seat. He glanced at the imaging screen on the plane, which displayed the figure of the Phone Booth Killer. "I just found it amusing that someone was hiding in the corner with a sniper rifle, threatening someone on the phone not to hang up, so I called to see what kind of person you really are and to tell you something."
The chatty sniper spoke in a low voice, "What do you want?"
"I just want to let you know that I'm here."
Bai Luo gestured for Natasha to open the hatch.
After hesitating for a moment, Natasha opened the hatch of the aircraft.
Meanwhile, Bai Luo had already stepped forward and began walking outside.
His voice continued, matching that of the Phone Booth Killer, but now it carried an imposing sharpness: "Actually, I want to thank you for creating such a chaotic situation for me because now many people have forgotten who I am. Those who remember me have been trying to figure out what kind of person I am and what abilities I possess. Moreover, many who never knew who I was should also come to understand what kind of person I am."
Natasha stood behind Bai Luo, watching his back. She wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent, merely observing as he walked toward the outside of the aircraft.
With a flick of his hand, Bai Luo produced a Yellow Paper Talisman that had appeared from nowhere. Without even looking at it, he tossed it into the air, where it transformed into a bright light shooting into the clear blue sky.
Bai Luo's voice continued, "So, I plan to make a grand entrance—of course, I saw you first. Actually, I could shoot you from behind or blow you up along with the ground beneath your feet, but you're quite an interesting person. It wouldn't be right for you to just die like that.
"So, I'm making a phone call first to say hello and avoid any mishaps in between."
Tony replied, "Hey, no matter who you are or whether what you're saying is true or just nonsense—are you interested in working for Howard Stark?"
The sniper said, "Are you really so sure that after all this nonsense, I won't kill Tony but will instead obediently do as you say?"
Bai Luo smiled and said, "Of course I'm sure, because you're never really a killer. You target someone usually just to fulfill your boring interests, and your goal isn't murder; killing is merely one of the means to achieve your ends."
This time, the sniper didn't respond to Bai Luo's words; instead, his tone suddenly shifted to shock: "I see you!"
He was standing up from his hiding place on the sand dune, gazing in Bai Luo's direction.
He indeed saw Bai Luo. At that moment, dense clouds began to gather in the clear desert sky above Bai Luo's head, obscuring the sun and following his steps as they moved closer to Tony Stark's position.
The scene was spectacular; the thick clouds in the sky contrasted sharply with the figures on the ground, making it impossible not to notice.
The Chatty Sniper looked at this Stormy Change unfolding before him, unable to hide his astonishment: "You're a mutant?"
"No, no, no," Bai Luo smiled again and dramatically declared, "I'm a Talismancer."
At that moment, Bai Luo hung up the phone.
Simultaneously, Mizumura Memeko shouted in Bai Luo's mind, breaking the atmosphere: "Hey, am I really just going to make a phone call?"
Just then, Natasha burst out from the aircraft and heard Bai Luo's last words. Immediately after, she saw Bai Luo throw out a Yellow Paper Talisman. The talisman transformed into a bright fireline at the moment of release, crossing through the cloud-covered desert and bypassing where the Chatty Sniper was located, striking the side of the dune where Tony was and hitting the convoy of the Ten Rings Organization.
In an instant, a burst of flames erupted there that could be seen even from nearly a kilometer away.
The glass of the phone booth where Tony stood shattered instantly; he was knocked to the ground. Military helicopters in the air immediately turned to locate this sudden strike while both the Ten Rings Organization and military forces opened fire on each other.
However, amidst Natasha's shocked gaze, Bai Luo had already "taken off." Although his flying posture was somewhat awkward, he shot up into the heavy clouds in an instant, tracing an arc in the air like a cannonball as he crossed nearly a kilometer distance and landed in the center of the battlefield.
In the swirling dust of battle, he almost instantly drew fire from both sides. However, the bullets that struck his body failed to budge him in the slightest.
Meanwhile, the sniper in the phone booth, having long abandoned his concealment, raised his weapon not to attack, but to get a clearer view of the figure before him.
To his surprise, the being who called himself the Talismancer was actually an Easterner. At that moment, his presence was astonishingly powerful; dark clouds in the sky seemed to gather around him as he moved. One hand crackled with flickering electricity, while the other held a piece of yellow paper inscribed with intricate and unseen runes. With a casual flick, it transformed into a bright ball of lightning that could obliterate a Ten Rings Off-Road Vehicle on impact.
At this point, the Chatty Sniper's plans had been thoroughly disrupted by Bai Luo. Yet instead of anger, he smiled as he surveyed the battlefield and the Eastern figure who appeared as if descended from the heavens. He chuckled softly, "Interesting, interesting. Not a mutant... but rather... a mysterious Eastern sorcerer?"
Just as Bai Luo had indicated, killing was merely a means to achieve his goals. With the situation shifting dramatically, he found himself intrigued by both Tony and Bai Luo, prompting him to alter his plans and refrain from making a move today.
As for Bai Luo... he had clearly anticipated this outcome.
Bai Luo understood well that this sniper was neither a good person nor a bad one; keeping him alive was far better than having him dead.
