Chapter Seventy-Four: A Fortune 0

Inside the shaking helicopter, Nick Fury witnessed a streak of light plummeting from the infinitely high cloud layers, descending straight and fast toward the earth, landing somewhere between the floors that Fury could not see. 0

Fury did not see the moment of impact, but he felt as if the ground trembled beneath him. 0

It was as if a meteor had struck the surface. 0

... 0

Bai Luo stood upright on top of his opponent's body. 0

His legs felt numb, and his internal organs churned. He had fallen from several thousand meters high, carrying immense kinetic energy to the ground. If it weren't for his Iron Body Talisman, he would have certainly been unable to withstand it. 0

But at this moment, it was the Daoist who was severely injured. 0

Earlier that morning, this Daoist had stepped on Bai Luo and fallen from nearly a hundred meters high, pinning Bai Luo to the ground. Now, the roles had reversed; Bai Luo was standing on top of him. 0

The golden light radiating from the Daoist Reincarnator was fading. His skin was returning to normal, his eyes were returning to normal, replaced by the blood flowing out from beneath his body. 0

His strength waned along with the diminishing golden light. 0

However, this did not mean he was truly on the verge of death. 0

His body, although not subjected to any advanced enhancements, was still not comparable to that of an Ability User. 0

Bai Luo watched as the Daoist raised his left hand. The Reincarnator watch on his wrist gleamed under the distant firelight, but he merely lifted his hand and extended his fingers, as if summoning something. 0

Bai Luo sensed something and turned to look, just in time to see the space in front of him shatter, and a sword stumbled out—this was the Daoist's Flying Sword. 0

However, the Flying Sword seemed to have reached its limit; after slicing through the space, it revealed a state of decline and ultimately fell weakly to the ground, not far from where the Daoist Reincarnator had extended his hand, transforming into an ordinary sword. 0

The Daoist began to cough, blood spilling from his mouth. 0

He looked at Bai Luo before him, a mouthful of blood revealing a sinister smile, yet his voice was filled with despair: "You will be discovered sooner or later—you won't last much longer." 0

He seemed to find his words quite impactful, laughing maniacally, but was choked by a clot of blood, erupting into violent coughs. 0

Bai Luo quietly observed him, his expression unchanged, though his gaze held a hint of amusement, as if laced with mockery. 0

The Reincarnator locked eyes with Bai Luo for a moment before finally seeming to realize something. He hissed, "John Schmidt... he didn't send anyone." 0

After this statement, more blood surged from the Reincarnator's mouth. He coughed again, producing a suffocating "huh huh" sound. 0

He was close to death. 0

He was about to choke on the blood he had coughed up. 0

Bai Luo stared at him for a while longer before once again retrieving a dagger from the Item Storage Talisman. He crouched down in front of the Reincarnator and slowly pressed the blade into his throat. 0

At the moment when the eyes of the Reincarnator completely lost their luster, a notification from the System echoed in Bai Luo's mind. 0

"Dear host, you have killed a B-Class Reincarnator." 0

"Killing reward: Old White Rabbit points: 5000 points." 0

"Received 13 pieces of Old White Rabbit Milk Candy." 0

Twenty-five thousand. 0

This was a number Bai Luo had never imagined. 0

However, his thoughts were not on this matter at the moment. He slowly stood up beside the Reincarnator, his gaze involuntarily drifting to the sky above him. 0

With the death of this Daoist and the fall of the Flying Sword, the sword formation that had illuminated the sky over New York City had long since collapsed. The sky above New York City returned to normal—a dark night shrouded in clouds, devoid of stars or moonlight. 0

Yet what Bai Luo was thinking at this moment was: People often viewed the deaths and struggles of Reincarnators in the infinite worlds as entertainment for the Main God. Wouldn’t his battle with the Reincarnator, even killing one, also be witnessed by the Main God? 0

If the world he inhabited was indeed just one of countless realms controlled by the Main God, then… why hadn’t he been crushed by the Main God? 0

Or perhaps, the Main God only truly cared about certain individuals. The Reincarnators Bai Luo had just eliminated might not even be significant enough to attract the Main God’s attention? 0

Bai Luo did not know. 0

He stared at the sky for a while before lowering his head again. Terms like "Main God" felt too distant for him; even for the Reincarnators, the Main God was an existence far beyond reach. Although the existence of Reincarnators stemmed from the Main God, how many of them had actually seen the Main God? There were hardly any who had even heard the voice of the Main God. The very existence of the Main God in Main God Space remained an unknown. For all Reincarnators, the symbol of the Main God was merely a large glowing sphere floating in Main God Space. 0

Bai Luo shook his head, taking advantage of the absence of others around him to discreetly collect the Flying Sword that was beside the Daoist. 0

At that moment, Bai Luo heard footsteps. He looked up to see Steve Rogers approaching him. It was clear that he had completed his "mission." The translucent barrier that had trapped Hulk had already vanished, and the Reincarnator was likely either dead or severely injured; even Hulk was nowhere to be seen. However, judging by Rogers' calm demeanor, it seemed that Hulk had not escaped but had probably transformed back into Banner. 0

Steve reached Bai Luo's side and glanced at the corpse of the Daoist Reincarnator at his feet. "Dead?" he asked. 0

"Yes—Supreme Sorcerer Gu Yi and I teamed up to deal with him," Bai Luo replied. "But it seems they reached some sort of agreement with John Schmidt, though Red Skull appears to have not upheld their pact." 0

"Backtracking is one of Schmidt's traits," Rogers said, frowning at the mention of Red Skull. The Crush Hydra Organization had always been Captain America's mission, and hearing about Red Skull made him uneasy. "But Schmidt has been cautious and restrained in recent years, making no significant moves. It's surprising that this group of terrorists could establish a connection with him; I wonder what price they paid for it." 0

Bai Luo nodded slightly. He had previously heard from Hill about the entire process of Captain America's battle with Schmidt in this world. Most of the events were similar to those in the first Captain America movie, except that during the final assault on Schmidt's base, there had been significant resistance. Captain America and Red Skull fought their way onto a plane, ultimately resulting in both being gravely injured and crashing into the depths of the Pacific Ocean. The time difference between when Red Skull was retrieved from the ocean and when Captain America was found was not many years apart. 0

In the years since, following the defeat of the fascist Axis powers, Hydra's surface strength had suffered a severe blow. Even after Red Skull was brought back, it seemed he could not change this situation; on the contrary, John Schmidt had behaved unusually cautiously in recent years, making almost no major moves. For S.H.I.E.L.D., Red Skull's lack of activity was itself a significant concern, prompting them to investigate what he had been up to lately with all their resources. 0
