Chapter Eighty-Eight: The Loli Version of Bai Chu is Live
The sudden change in scene truly caught Bai Luo off guard.
He shouted, "I was over there charming Nurse and you just switched my location like this? Really?"
Bai Luo noticed that Sadako and Mizumura Memeko had failed to come through. He couldn't even sense the contract connection with Mizumura Memeko anymore—his life agreement with her was simply too low-level, making it ineffective when it came to crossing dimensional boundaries.
At that moment, Bai Luo heard a certain sound and instinctively turned his head.
He saw Captain America rounding a corner, and the man with D-cup muscles had a girl on his shoulder who was flailing her arms and shouting.
If Bai Luo didn't know Captain America's character, he would have thought a human trafficker had appeared.
As soon as Bai Luo spotted Captain America, the latter also saw him and immediately called out, "Bai!"
However, Bai Luo's gaze involuntarily drifted to the girl on Captain America's shoulder. From his angle, he couldn't see her face clearly, but for some reason, he felt she looked somewhat familiar.
Just then, while Captain America was distracted, the Loli on his shoulder bit into his neck and slid down his body, sprinting off in another direction.
Captain America was taken aback and hurriedly chased after her.
Bai Luo watched her retreating figure, his brows furrowing slightly. Finally, just as she was about to disappear from view, he tentatively called out, "Sister?"
That voice made the Loli stop in her tracks. She turned around and looked at Bai Luo from a distance of several meters.
Captain America realized something and halted his pursuit, standing still to observe the two of them.
When Bai Luo finally got a clear look at the Loli's face, he couldn't help but be momentarily stunned.
Because it was Bai Chu.
The childhood version of Bai Chu. Before the age of nine, his memories were chaotic; back then, he was even less than an ordinary child. It wasn't until after turning nine that he regained memories from his past life. The memories from the nine years since arriving in this world—and even those from when he was just born—were all vividly clear.
Thus, even though Bai Chu looked younger than Bai Luo now, he could still distinctly remember what his only family member in this world looked like.
Bai Chu seemed momentarily stunned. She stared at Bai Luo for a while, then glanced at the burly Steve, swallowing hard. "You... you must have mistaken me for someone else. You all must have made a mistake. I... I have a younger brother waiting for me at home. He’s all alone, and I have to be strong. I must return to his side. I..."
Her panic gradually transformed into an unusual determination and calmness.
She turned around and ran back into the darkness behind her.
Bai Luo and Captain America's expressions changed.
Captain America glanced at Bai Luo, who seemed to be pondering something. After a moment, he said, "This situation looks like a classic horror movie trope designed to draw people in."
Captain America was about to echo Bai Luo's thoughts when he heard Bai Luo articulate them. He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. However, just a moment later, his eyes widened in shock as Bai Luo immediately took off after her.
Steve felt like he might spit blood from frustration, but he had no choice but to follow.
Both of them had incredible stamina, yet at that moment, it seemed they couldn't catch up to a little girl. Nevertheless, Bai Luo led the charge. Although he knew this child version of Bai Chu couldn't possibly be the real Bai Chu, something deep within him was stirred, compelling him to chase after her.
Steve was the epitome of a good teammate; he stayed close behind Bai Luo, keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.
At that moment, it seemed there were no monsters lurking in this "inner world." They navigated through the vast hospital and gradually closed in on the child version of Bai Chu.
"Bai Chu" was running toward a door that looked remarkably similar to the one Bai Luo and the others had pushed open when they entered the hospital. She only opened it slightly before slipping through.
Without hesitation, Bai Luo followed closely behind her, bursting through the door.
The door swung wide open in an instant; however, Captain America couldn't see what lay outside because as soon as the door opened, a blinding light flooded in.
Captain America sensed that things were not as simple as they seemed. He pulled out his shield from behind him and got into a defensive stance before charging through the door.
But...
As Captain America passed through the doorway, he found himself unable to see either Bai Luo or the Loli version of Bai Chu who had just gone through.
On the contrary, he discovered that he was standing in a brightly lit hospital corridor. Judging by its architectural style, it appeared to be the same hospital he had been in before—only this one was clean and bright, unlike the dilapidated one Steve had seen earlier. This was indeed the dimension where Bai Luo had previously arrived.
When he turned around, he realized that the door behind him had vanished without a trace. In front of him stood a Nurse with a large tumor on her back silently sweeping up a pile of corpse ash from the floor.
Meanwhile, Steve Rogers was completely bewildered. He stood there looking innocent and confused as he scanned his surroundings, ultimately fixing his gaze on the Tumor Nurse before him.
The Tumor Nurse had already noticed the sudden appearance of Steve. She slightly raised her head to look at him, her hand gripping the broom tightly for a moment, clearly tempted to strike. But then, as if recalling something or someone, she asked in a hoarse voice, "Did you burn this poor child to death?"
Steve was already prepared for a fight and was taken aback by her words. He glanced at the ashes on the ground, wondering who could be so cruel as to burn someone alive. However, Captain America was polite; when someone spoke to him civilly, he set aside his intention to fight and replied honestly, "No, I was..."
His sentence was cut short as the world suddenly began to shake.
It felt like an earthquake. Terrifying cracks appeared on the walls, the lights flickered ominously, and even the floor split open beneath Steve's feet. The Tumor Nurse let out a high-pitched scream, her body lurching forward as she began to convulse, her form even seeming to shrink.
This sensation was akin to the hospital building—or perhaps the entire world—suddenly losing some primal force of support. It felt as if the very power sustaining this world had weakened drastically in that moment, leading to an extreme instability in its existence.
Meanwhile, deep within the hospital, in a cramped corner of a sickroom, Alyssa's hair gradually turned pitch black. Her eyes were shrouded in darkness, yet crimson blood flowed from them.
At the same time, in another world, Bai Luo, who had pushed through the same door as Steve, found herself stepping out of the hospital. In an uncanny twist, she left the confines of the hospital and directly entered the realm of Silent Ridge!
