Chapter Ninety-Five: I Have an Idea
In Asgard, while Bai Luo was humming a tune and driving around searching for Mjolnir, Heimdall was unable to remain calm.
As the owner of Heimdall's Eye, he could indeed see many things happening in the Nine Realms, especially since he had a good impression of Thor. Although Odin had banished Thor, as a guardian, Heimdall still needed to keep a close watch on the God of Thunder.
Then… he witnessed the entire process of Bai Luo's actions.
Most importantly, Heimdall saw with his own eyes as Bai Luo used an ancient-looking key to unlock the back door of a fast-food restaurant and pushed Thor inside. However, Thor did not appear in that restaurant. Heimdall immediately realized that the yellow-skinned Earthling had opened some sort of spatial gate with the key, but the question was… where did this spatial gate lead?
Heimdall found himself completely losing track of Thor, and soon after, accompanied by the yellow-skinned mortal's threats and demands for ransom, Heimdall finally lost his composure.
He stared at the one humming the patriotic song while searching for Mjolnir in Asgard before turning around to seek out Odin.
Odin was in his palace, looking somewhat weary.
Heimdall knew that the king of the gods was about to enter Odin's Sleep.
Odin's Sleep referred to the state Odin entered once a year to restore his divine power and extend his lifespan.
Of course, there was also the possibility that he might fall into a sleep from which he would never awaken.
Odin had lived for an incredibly long time; even though he appeared to be in normal condition, he had already reached his twilight years.
However, he still knew what had happened.
Therefore, without waiting for Heimdall to speak, he said, "Since I have exiled him, Thor's matters are irrelevant to us until he possesses the qualities necessary to wield Mjolnir once again."
With that, the king of the gods, Odin Borson, slowly stood up from his seat and walked toward the back.
Heimdall was momentarily taken aback, but he was not one to speak much. After a moment of contemplation, he turned around and walked out, clearly intending to return to his Rainbow Bridge.
Since Odin appeared confident, there was nothing for him to worry about.
As Odin disappeared deeper into the palace and Heimdall vanished as well, another figure emerged from the shadows of the grand temple.
This person wore green clothing, and his fair and handsome face bore an air of sinister charm.
He was none other than Thor's half-brother, the son Odin had brought from the Frost Giants... Evil God Loki.
Stepping out from the shadows, it was clear that he had overheard Odin's conversation with Heimdall. A meaningful cold smile crept onto his lips.
—Thor, my brother, have you really been captured by a mere mortal?
Loki sneered. He felt an insatiable curiosity about the one who had kidnapped his half-brother. But before that, he needed to clarify one thing—who exactly was he the son of?
During this expedition with Thor to Jotunheim, he discovered that when he touched the bodies of the Frost Giants, not only did he not suffer frostbite; on the contrary, his skin even exhibited a bluish hue. This led Loki to question his own heritage.
As a god of cunning and trickery, combined with years of believing that Odin favored his brother greatly, it was entirely normal for him to harbor doubts about whether he was truly Odin's biological son.
Of course, Loki would not personally ask Odin Borson, the king of the gods. Although he had always felt dissatisfied with Odin's preference for Thor and his neglect of himself, Odin was still his father and had held considerable power for many years. Loki did not dare to confront Odin directly, but he had other methods. During the last war between Odin and the Frost Giants, the king of the gods had seized the Ancient Winter Coffin, a sacred artifact of the Frost Giant clan, which was now stored among Odin's treasures. Loki intended to test his Bloodline using that Ancient Winter Coffin.
At that moment, Loki cast a deep glance toward the Rainbow Bridge before turning around and walking into the depths of the vast palace.
…
…
At the same time, on Earth.
Bai Luo easily found Mjolnir.
In fact, he was likely the first to arrive at the scene.
The hammer had struck the ground like a cannonball, leaving behind a terrifyingly large crater that made it impossible not to be found.
However, while finding it was easy, lifting it proved to be quite another matter.
Bai Luo was the first to reach this place and arrogantly decided to give it a try. He rolled up his sleeves and called upon Mizumura Memeko and Shan Village Sadako to join him in exerting their strength, yet they could not budge the hammer even slightly—it was as if it were rooted to the ground. No matter how much effort Bai Luo put in or what non-physical means he employed, he could not lift Mjolnir.
But Bai Luo did not feel too disheartened; he had anticipated this outcome before arriving.
Mjolnir's full name was indeed Mjolnir. The head of this hammer was forged from Divine Realm Metal Uru, while its handle was made from wood of the World Tree. To successfully lift this hammer, one must be a "good person" in every sense—here, a good person meant someone truly virtuous.
Moreover, this hammer possessed immense power and had properties similar to a boomerang; when thrown, it could return. Of course, in this regard, it was even more extraordinary—no matter how far it flew away, it could swiftly turn back and return to Thor's hand.
Bai Luo clearly wasn't a true hero, so it was normal for him not to be able to lift the hammer.
However, as he squatted beside the hammer, his thoughts began to wander.
Back when he watched Thor, he had a particular idea.
When Mjolnir was on the ground, if one could dig a large hole directly beneath it and clear away the soil underneath where Mjolnir landed, it would surely fall. And if one could dig at the same speed as Mjolnir's descent, wouldn't it be possible to redirect Mjolnir and take it away?
The principle behind this plan was somewhat similar to placing a large table in front of a television playing Sadako's videotape to block her; it was absurd but not necessarily doomed to fail.
Bai Luo decided to give it a try.
The agents from S.H.I.E.L.D. were probably on their way. According to the original storyline, the person arriving at this moment should be Agent Phil Coulson, who seemed amiable but was actually quite stubborn.
