Chapter 106: Loki Softens
Bai Luo was chatting with Alyssa when he suddenly felt a slight stir in his heart, receiving a message out of the blue.
It was a message from Mizumura Memeko, somewhat vague, likely due to the vast distance in time and space.
However, the content was simple enough; even though it was unclear, Bai Luo quickly deduced its meaning.
"Loki wants to talk to you."
Upon hearing this, Bai Luo was slightly taken aback, realizing that his "Double Ghosts Strategy" had borne fruit.
Previously, whenever Sadako and Mizumura Memeko made their move, they would typically strike and retreat immediately. This time, however, they had actually followed Loki to Asgard. This was not because the two girls were enamored with Loki, but rather due to Bai Luo's instructions.
Loki's plans on Earth had failed; his ambush had not succeeded, and the Ice Giant's envoy had run into Coulson's reinforcements. Loki himself had fled in disgrace. There was a significant possibility that he would abandon his plan to redeem his brother. If that happened, the connection between Asgard and Bai Luo would be severed.
Thus, holding onto the notion that if you scheme against me without any intention of making amends, you shouldn't expect things to go smoothly for yourself.
Bai Luo had long since devised a strategy with Sadako and Mizumura Memeko. If Loki attempted to flee, the two girls would follow him all the way, ensuring that Loki would have to "give and take."
Mizumura Memeko and Sadako's abilities were formidable; while Loki could still contend with these two Vengeful Spirits, in the end, he would be the one at a disadvantage.
Therefore, Loki intended to have a conversation with Bai Luo.
Mizumura Memeko's message was merely a reminder. About ten minutes after receiving it, Bai Luo's phone rang.
It was naturally Mizumura Memeko calling from Asgard using her abilities.
On the line was Loki's voice. He got straight to the point, his tone filled with irritation and impatience. "I won't give you the Ancient Winter Coffin. That item belongs to the Ice Giant clan. Not only is it useful for me to keep it, but if it ends up in your hands, it will only bring you endless trouble—you are not Odin. If the crazies from Jotunheim find out that the Ancient Winter Coffin is with you, they will definitely come after it."
"As for the Life Stone Tablet," he continued, "let me put it this way: having it won't do you much good. The equations on it are something even Odin couldn't decipher. Even if you got your hands on it, it's just a worthless rock. However, as for other things... beautiful women from Asgard, wealth, or even divine positions among the Asgardians... just say the word and I can provide you with those practical items."
Bai Luo chuckled and said, "Oh, now that's more like a negotiating attitude."
"I'll make it easy for you, and you do the same. Just tell me what you want, and I'll send it to you directly. You can lift whatever magic you've placed on me, and then return Thor. I can guarantee that nothing will have happened," Loki said, his tone still firm.
Bai Luo thought for a moment and replied, "You do have a point. I can't crack the Life Stone Tablet, and the Ancient Winter Coffin doesn't seem useful either. As for money... do you know Tony Stark? He's the wealthy tycoon of Earth, our financial backer in the Avengers. I don't really have many places to spend money, so it doesn't seem useful. And women... my fiancée is North Star Lorna. You know her, right? She has manic episodes, and if you send too many women my way, she might end up killing a few."
Loki wasn't foolish; he immediately responded, "Stop beating around the bush. What do you really want?"
Bai Luo smiled and said, "How about the Eternal Flame? That seems useful; we could use it as a furnace."
"Absolutely not," Loki replied decisively. "That thing is far too significant to be shared."
Bai Luo wasn't surprised by this response. In fact, he had anticipated that Loki would refuse when he mentioned the Eternal Flame. The reason was simple: it belonged to Fire Giant Surtr, and using that flame to forge his giant sword could lead to the destruction of Asgard. It was tied to Ragnarok. Even if Loki was bold, he wouldn't risk such a thing at this time. Through their interactions, he had also realized that Bai Luo was a true wild card. If the Eternal Flame fell into Bai Luo's hands, the consequences were unimaginable for Loki. Therefore, he absolutely could not hand it over.
Hearing this, Bai Luo's tone revealed some anger as he said, "This isn't acceptable, nor is that. Are you asking me to hand over Thor, or am I asking you to give him back?"
After a moment of silence, Loki replied, "You can ask for something within my limits this time; I won't refuse."
However, what truly shocked Loki was how well Bai Luo understood Odin's Vault. These treasures had never been known to outsiders, yet Bai Luo spoke of them as if he were intimately familiar with their significance and history.
Who exactly is this guy?
Bai Luo chuckled and said, "Alright then! Who says I don't enjoy serving the people?
"How about this: I've heard there's something else in Odin's Vault... called the Infinity Gauntlet?"
Upon hearing this from Bai Luo, a smile appeared on Loki's face from afar in Asgard.
But...
Just as his smile formed, the voice of Mizumura Memeko came through the call: "Bai Bai, don't trust him! His smile is suspicious; that gauntlet can't be anything good."
Loki nearly spat out blood in frustration.
Realizing something, Bai Luo laughed and said, "Oh right! I heard from old man Odin that the Infinity Gauntlet is a fake? Well then, that's not good at all."
With gritted teeth, Loki asked, "What exactly do you want?"
Bai Luo let out a long "Hmm," indicating he was deep in thought, and then he slowly smiled and said, "How about this? I want an Infinity Stone."
This time, Loki furrowed his brows. "An Infinity Stone? Even we in Asgard don't have one. How could I possibly have it? As for Odin's Vault... since you know so much about my father's treasures, you should also be aware that there is no such thing in Odin's Vault."
Bai Luo chuckled and replied, "Of course I know, but I think you're quite talented. You might just get your hands on an Infinity Stone someday, and then we can fulfill our agreement..."
"That's not a problem, but I need to see Thor as soon as possible." Loki's lips curled into a cold smirk once again. He thought to himself: With such a request, as long as I achieve my goal, there's no way I'm giving you the Infinity Stone.
However, he quickly suppressed that smirk because he suddenly remembered that Bai Luo had an undercover agent watching his every move.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Bai Luo smiled again. How could he not consider this possibility? "Alright, Thor is fine, but for this matter, we need to sign a 'contract.'"
Bai Luo still had over two thousand System points left, and exchanging them for a Talisman that would force Loki to keep his promise would definitely be worth it.
