Chapter 108: Mission Failure
At the same moment, in Asgard.
Loki returned like a flash of lightning, and the first thing he saw was Heimdall completely frozen in the center of the hall.
The Guardian of the Rainbow Bridge had his mouth wide open, his eyes bulging with rage, looking extremely terrifying.
However, upon seeing Heimdall's frozen face, Loki let out a cold laugh—Heimdall was frozen; no matter how powerful Thor was, what good was it if he couldn't return to Asgard?
Just then, a voice came from beside Loki: "You better give me an explanation for the warriors lost on Earth."
Loki turned to see Laufey, the king of the Ice Giants, walking toward him.
He was accompanied by several warriors from the Ice Giant clan, who had hidden in this corner and were responsible for freezing Heimdall.
As for why they were here, that was certainly Loki's doing.
Loki stared at Laufey before him and smiled slowly. His plan had many steps, but the first step was to deal with Thor. Now that Thor had regained his powers and could not return through the Rainbow Bridge, he was essentially trapped on Earth. Yet Loki still felt a sense of unease—he needed to quicken his pace.
Bai Luo's interference had significantly impacted Thor's storyline, but this influence was mostly limited to Earth. Although Loki had completely severed ties with Bai Luo, it did not change his thoughts—he wanted to kill Laufey, destroy Jotunheim, make Odin acknowledge him as his son, and become the future king of Asgard.
Compared to his ambitions for the throne and his father's recognition, Bai Luo meant very little to Loki.
At that moment, Loki walked alongside Laufey towards the depths of the palace in Asgard.
Laufey asked, "Have the troubles on Earth been resolved?"
"Of course," Loki replied confidently, though his gaze wandered slightly.
Laufey paid no mind to this: "Good, now I’m going to kill Odin—according to what he can see, hear, and feel even in Odin's Sleep, I want him to witness who kills him firsthand, hahahaha..."
Listening to Laufey's maniacal laughter, a cold smirk crept onto Loki's lips.
Everything proceeded smoothly from there. Laufey remained blissfully unaware of Loki's malicious intent as he entered Odin's resting place, delivering a long-winded speech filled with the typical villainous bravado. Then, at the moment he raised his ice blade, he was blasted away by Loki wielding Odin's staff.
According to the script, this Ice Giant King would have spouted a few more lines before being obliterated by Loki. In doing so, Loki not only eliminated Odin's nemesis, the Ice Giant King but also thwarted a conspiracy. This would lay the groundwork for his destruction of Jotunheim—after all, their leader had come personally to assassinate him; it wouldn’t be an issue for him to retaliate by taking down their stronghold.
In his own mind, Loki believed this would be a perfect performance in front of his father.
But reality was cruel.
Although Laufey was foolish enough to come alone with a few dimwitted warriors to assassinate Odin in Asgard, he had already suffered a setback from Loki on Earth prior to this. Though he hadn’t been present during that encounter, he understood the lesson learned from it.
Thus, when he was ambushed and instantly recognized that it was Loki who had attacked him, this king of the Ice Giant clan realized what was happening in an instant. He let out an enraged roar: "Loki!"
Then he decisively turned around and blasted through the wall behind him, fleeing like a cannonball.
Loki stood there dumbfounded.
At that moment, his mother had no idea that this was all part of Loki's scheme, feeling proud and honored for her son.
However, Loki had no time to enjoy the fruits of his plan; Laufey's escape was far beyond his expectations. According to his thoughts, with Laufey's foolish nature, he would merely curse a few times before being swiftly dealt with... but this...
Without hesitation, Loki chased after him, ordering all of Asgard to search for Laufey's whereabouts, while he headed straight for the Rainbow Bridge.
Whether Laufey died sooner or later didn't matter; he was already within Asgard. Could he possibly escape?
A cold smile crept onto Loki's lips as he thought about how once he destroyed Jotunheim, even if Laufey managed to escape by some stroke of luck, it wouldn't mean anything.
Holding Odin's scepter, he stepped onto the dazzling Rainbow Bridge, fully focused on his goal of annihilating Jotunheim. He didn't even notice where Heimdall, who should have been frozen on the Rainbow Bridge, had gone.
But soon enough, as Loki entered the Rainbow Bridge, he spotted a figure he knew all too well.
It was Thor.
Loki's expression darkened at that moment.
What followed was a battle that embodied the Marvel style—visually striking yet lacking in real danger.
Initially, Loki leveraged the power of Odin's scepter to gain the upper hand briefly. However, instead of pressing his advantage, he took the opportunity to push his older brother Thor back and entered the Rainbow Bridge to launch a devastating assault on Jotunheim.
And then...
It turned into a scene where Thor, rising from the ground intermittently strong and weak, subdued Loki in just a few swift moves.
Without exception, it was still a thrilling scene. Just moments ago, Loki had been full of bravado, but now, in front of Thor, he resembled a child who had yet to grow up, easily subdued in just a few moments. What truly troubled Thor was how to prevent the destruction of Jotunheim.
He had grown and developed what could be called a king's sense of righteousness. Therefore, although he once wished for the destruction of Jotunheim, now… he did not want so many innocent lives to be lost.
In the end, he made a rather difficult decision.
Using Mjolnir, he shattered the entire Rainbow Bridge, halting the transfer of power.

Odin awoke just in time, and Loki finally revealed his feelings to his father. This was all part of the movie's plot; the storyline in Asgard did not change much. Loki ultimately fell into the abyss beneath Asgard… but he did not die.
Then, it is worth mentioning that Laufey also went missing. After a long time, this king finally returned to his home planet and vowed never to let Loki and the Asgardians off the hook.
Meanwhile, far away on Earth, Bai Luo received a timely notification from the System about mission failure at the moment the Rainbow Bridge collapsed.
