That night, Wenxin stealthily infiltrated the royal palace. However, the palace was vast, and she found herself unable to locate Su Daji's quarters. 0

Just as she was about to leap down from the rooftop to search for Fox Man, she noticed a sudden burst of crimson light emanating from a nearby palace, its brilliance striking against the night sky. 0

What was happening? 0

Driven by curiosity and an inexplicable sense of worry, as if an invisible hand were urging her forward, Wenxin dashed toward the palace where the red light radiated. She rushed up to the entrance and looked up to see Fox Man trapped within a dazzling beam of red light, while Su Daji sat weakly beside him, her face pale. 0

"Naughty Fox?!" Seeing Fox Man's handsome face flicker between human and fox forms, Wenxin realized he might not last much longer. Without hesitation, she leaped forward and yanked down the sword that hung at the palace entrance. 0

With a soft thud, the barrier shattered. 0

Fox Man collapsed weakly to the ground. Catching a glimpse of Wenxin's face from the corner of his eye, he suddenly smiled. "It's you! What a coincidence!" 0

"Coincidence my foot!" Wenxin retorted with annoyance as she helped Fox Man sit up. "What are you doing in the palace? And…" 0

Glancing at the sword in her hand, her frustration deepened. "You almost changed history! Isn't this the sword Jiang Ziya used to deal with the Nine-Tailed Fox? How did you end up here?" 0

"I…" Fox Man began to explain but was interrupted by an enchanting voice. Su Daji, supported by her maidservants, slowly rose from the ground. 0

She glided over to Fox Man's side and leaned down with genuine concern. "Guan Xue, are you alright? If you hadn't pushed me away just now, I might have…" 0

Guan Xue—so that was his name. Hearing Su Daji call out to Fox Man so affectionately stirred an unexpected pang of jealousy in Wenxin's heart. It felt as if an invisible claw were gently scratching at her chest, leaving her feeling both irritated and uncomfortable. 0

Guan Xue finally turned her gaze to Su Daji's face after glancing at the ever-changing expression of Wenxin. "I'm fine, sister, you don't need to worry." 0

Wenxin stood up and looked down at the two Fox Demons half-embracing each other on the ground. Suddenly, she felt out of place, as if she were an unnecessary presence. 0

How infuriating! She had been so worried about him. 0

She turned to walk out of the palace gates but paused after taking a couple of steps. 0

Seeing her stop again, a hint of barely perceptible surprise flashed in Guan Xue's eyes. "Hey, you’re not really going to leave me behind, are you?" 0

"What else can I do?" 0

Wenxin tilted her head and turned back, casting a sidelong glance at Su Daji with a half-smile. "Are you planning to have me take you and this Nine-Tailed Fox? Come on, you know my abilities. I couldn't handle just one of you, let alone both." 0

As she spoke, she mockingly raised the sword in her hand and glanced at it. "If I weren't a cultivator, I probably wouldn't even be able to break this sword's barrier." 0

That smile, which was more pitiful than crying, stirred a feeling in Guan Xue that he couldn't quite articulate. He stared blankly at her for a moment before finally conceding, "Come here, I'm injured and can't walk over." 0

"No." 0

Wenxin stubbornly replied, "If it weren't for you dragging me into this mess, I wouldn't be here." 0

But Guan Xue laughed. Wenxin's awkward demeanor reminded him of a young bride throwing a tantrum, and he found it quite amusing; it warmed his heart. "There's nothing we can do; I've said it before—this is fate." 0

"Fate, my foot." 0

Wenxin couldn't help but mutter another complaint. After standing in place for a moment, she finally considered the injured person's difficulty in moving and slowly made her way over. "What did you call me over for?" 0

"I'm injured; you have to protect me." 0

"Come on, I'm a demon hunter, not a demon keeper." Wenxin wrinkled her nose, looking utterly helpless. 0

"It's fine; it's not too late to start keeping one now." 0

Wenxin silently scoffed at the audacity of such a statement. She had seen thick-skinned people before, but never anyone this shameless. Rolling her eyes, she felt an inexplicable joy and shot a smug glance at Su Daji. 0

Seeing this, Su Daji let out a cold snort and returned Wenxin's eye roll with an even more disdainful one. 0

Sigh, sigh, clearly, comparing eye rolls with a beauty was not the wisest move. 0
