Yelai was reluctant to leave that home, after all, it held many memories with Luo Zhenxue.
"You stubborn mule, how about this? I can stay with you. I've been cleaning that house for three years, so I have a right to live there too. Besides, we won't be staying for long. I contacted Zhenxue last time, and it seems her investigation is making progress. Soon, you'll be able to meet."
Yelai was about to respond when Zhang Yinlin spoke up first.
"Zhenxue is in the Numbered Protection Zone, which does ensure that the Li Family won't easily send people over. But that doesn't mean you're safe in the Safe Zone. There are still Li Family members in the Safe Zone, and I suspect they’ve already caught wind of things."
"Oh? Who?" Yelai asked.
Zhang Yinlin's tone was certain, clearly knowing who the Li Family member was.
"Zhong Zhi," she stated directly.
"Who is that?" Yelai pondered for a moment, not recalling anyone by that name.
"He came to the Safe Zone three years after your death. He was the one Zhenxue promised to the Numbered Protection Zone, and he was sent to oversee the Safe Zone as a Sequence."
"His strength is considerable; he's Rank Three and took over as Commander of the Safe Zone from Zhenxue."
Zhang Yinlin sighed deeply.
"Three years can change a lot. The previous Sequence in the Safe Zone has diminished; some of Old Li's people have died, and with Zhong Zhi being assigned from the Numbered Protection Zone, the upper echelons of the Safe Zone have become quite complex. It's no longer a one-man show like it used to be with Zhenxue."
"So you need to stay with me to ensure your safety. I'll arrange for you to attend a kindergarten as well, so that the Li Family thinks you have some self-awareness and won't keep bothering Zhenxue."
She pulled out her phone and brought up a photo of Zhong Zhi to show Yelai.
"Oh wow, this person looks really strong," Yelai remarked after taking a closer look.
"Right? He does have decent strength—Rank Three—but after three years, I suspect he might not have reached Rank Four yet. But how did you figure out he’s strong? Is it because he looks like a ruthless killer?"
"No, it's because he is bald. Bald people are usually strong."
Zhang Yinlin was taken aback and waved her hand, laughing and scolding, "You're just being cheeky."
It had been three years since they last met, and especially after not seeing each other for so long, Yelai seemed to be quite talkative.
He and Zhang Yinlin chatted about many things, discussing the changes in their district over the past three years, as well as various related events in the world.
They talked intimately for over an hour.
"Enough of that; I have to teach a class now. Later, I'll call someone to handle your onboarding procedures. Also, take this money; I'll have someone take you to buy some daily necessities."
Zhang Yinlin then made a strange gesture.
The sunlight outside illuminated her figure, casting her shadow on the desk. She reached out toward the shadow.
In the next second, a small hand suddenly emerged from the shadow.
Its skin was a deathly gray color.
No matter how you looked at it, it didn't resemble a human hand at all; it looked more like a dead person's hand.
Upon closer inspection, the small hand was very tiny, about the size of an infant's hand just a few months old.
With a snap, she plucked off the little finger from the small hand and tossed it to Yelai.
"Here, take this. If you encounter any danger, squeeze this little finger tightly; I will come to save you."
Truly worthy of being Rank Four strong, Sister Yinlin was indeed something else.
Yelai grinned as he accepted the little finger and tucked it into his pocket.
"You're just teasing me again," Zhang Yinlin laughed.
"Alright, alright, Yinlin, you get back to work; I’ll go buy some things."
"Okay then, I'll start teaching."
