He handed over a tablet containing the surveillance recording.
Comparing Yelai's appearance in the video with the photo on the document, they were identical.
It really is Yelai; he has truly come back to life.
Zhong Zhi's gaze was intense.
Even though many people testified that they saw Yelai at the Transmission Altar, he remained uncertain until he saw it with his own eyes. Now, seeing the video confirmed Yelai's resurrection.
Three years have passed; I was almost ready to give up hope of ever leaving the Safe Zone. I never expected to receive such a surprise today.
A fierce grin spread across his face, trembling with excitement. At that moment, the Vice Captain beside him also expressed his exhilaration.
"Zhong, let's report to the higher-ups quickly and get out of this Safe Zone," one of them urged.
"Don't rush. Let's wait until we kill Yelai before reporting," Zhong Zhi replied, raising a hand to signal for calm. His gaze was fixed on the tablet screen displaying Yelai's status.
Years ago, they had been told that their assignment to the Safe Zone was a form of penance for their crimes; as long as they killed Yelai, they could return. It was merely an excuse to keep them occupied, effectively exiling them instead.
The Vice Captain nodded in agreement. Compared to the Numbered Protection Zone, the Safe Zone felt like being sent to the frontier. The earlier the area code of a Safe Zone, the safer it was and the more resources it had. If Zhong had been in a Numbered Protection Zone for three years, he would have easily reached Rank Five instead of just Rank Four.
The Vice Captain mentioned the area without any pretense of being a protector. Zhong Zhi felt the same way. The resources in the Safe Zone were scarce and dangerous; if it weren't for his strong Sequence, he might have died here during those three years.
They were meant to perish here; after all, not everyone could be resurrected as sacrifices for Cthulhu—the odds were too slim. They believed Yelai could not be revived, which was why they had sent them to monitor whether Yelai came back to life.
Even if Yelai did revive, they would find a way to kill him without involving them, ensuring that they could never return. After all, their agreement to go back hinged on monitoring Yelai's resurrection and killing him.
So there was no need to report Yelai's revival just yet. They could wait until after they killed him before making any reports. By then, when they applied to return, with Zhong's connections, they wouldn't be able to stop them from going back to the Numbered Protection Zone.
His eyes were locked onto Yelai. While others in the Safe Zone looked at Yelai with surprise and disdain, all he felt was excitement. They wanted him dead here, but little did they know that fate was on their side—Yelai had truly come back to life.
Zhong Zhi flipped through the documents with determination.
There was more than just information about Yelai. As the page turned, it prominently displayed details regarding Zhang Yinlin. The report could wait; the immediate priority was to find a way to deal with Zhang Yinlin. With her around, killing Yelai would be impossible. The plan had to focus on eliminating or restraining Zhang Yinlin before taking action against Yelai.
