The Timid Girl's face flushed. Her heart raced like a startled deer, especially when Yelai lifted the armrest of the seat, clearly intending to pull her into an embrace. She was at a loss for how to respond to Yelai.
What should she do? Should she take his hand? She had already done that earlier, so it shouldn't be a problem, right?
She dared not look at Yelai, fearing that his gaze would reveal her shyness and anxiety, which felt too embarrassing. Instead, her eyes darted to the screen of the movie.
In that fleeting glance, the screen continued to display scenes from an Unknown Horror film, causing her to scream once more in fright. This time, without the armrest as a barrier, she not only grabbed Yelai's hand but also instinctively leaned closer to him.
Yelai was unfazed; he understood that when people are most frightened, they instinctively seek a safe place. His broad shoulders were the safest haven she could reach at that moment.
In fact, Yelai welcomed it. The fear radiating from the Timid Girl enveloped him, and not only did he find this exchange worthwhile, but it also contributed to enhancing his Sequence.
There were many ways to advance one's Sequence. One could do so by continually holding hands with Entities or by consistently paying a price. While paying a price could subtly harm the Sequence itself, for the Sequence's rank, it served as spiritual nourishment that could elevate its rank.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to," she said as she became aware of Yelai's masculine presence and warmth. Her cheeks reddened even more.
It’s natural to feel scared; let's just continue watching the movie. After all, this was the climax of the film.
Yelai didn’t mind at all; in fact, he wished for the Timid Girl to lean against him even more.
Suddenly, the Timid Girl's face turned even redder. She didn't know how to handle the situation; she was almost clinging to Yelai, who seemed completely unconcerned and genuinely didn't mind.
Was it just her imagination? It felt like Yelai was actually enjoying her embrace. Could it be that he really had feelings for her? Was her luck in love finally turning around? She considered herself not bad-looking, at least average, so it wasn't impossible for someone like him to take an interest in her.
As these thoughts raced through her mind, she couldn't help but feel nervous. If he really liked her, would letting go now make him think she was rejecting him? Would he assume she didn't have any feelings for him and that's why she released her hold?
But if she didn't let go, would he think she was a casual girl who could hug a stranger so easily and for such a long time?
Caught in this whirlwind of thoughts, she found herself at a crossroads: to hold on or to let go. As time passed, her nervousness shifted into fear. It was rare to meet such a handsome and warm-hearted man; if she made the wrong choice and lost this opportunity, she would regret it terribly.
What should she do? Should she continue holding on or let go?
Strangely, the scent around them seemed to change. Yelai twitched his nose and took a sniff. With Timid Girl practically pressed against him, he instantly noticed the shift in her scent—her fear had transformed into something different.
This kind of fearful scent was new to him, but oddly enough, it smelled quite pleasant. He glanced sideways at Timid Girl, curiosity flickering in his eyes.
He had no idea what the other person had done to evoke such a sense of fear. Today was the first time he had absorbed human fear. It seemed that not all human fears were the same.
As he inhaled the scent emanating from those around him watching the Unknown Horror movie, Yelai could distinguish that the fear radiating from the Timid Girl was different from that of others. If he were to grade fear, the fear emitted by the Timid Girl would belong to a higher tier.
Never mind the reasons; he just needed to absorb more of it. Yelai couldn't afford to be curious. He wasn't foolish; he could tell that the Timid Girl was somewhat shy. If he were to ask her about it and make her feel embarrassed, she might not want to hold onto him anymore, and the consequences would be dire.
Rather than getting tangled up in such thoughts, it was better to take advantage of the time left in the movie and absorb as much fear as possible.
With that in mind, Yelai remained calm and let the Timid Girl hold onto him. She didn't make a choice until the movie ended; she simply held onto Yelai until it was over.
