How Yelai and the Yelai he knew were not the same. He was not an outsider like Zhong Zhi; he had been in the Safe Zone long before Yelai's death, following Luo Zhenxue, and was quite familiar with Yelai.
Uncle Zhou remained silent. His level of confusion was no less than that of the Squad Captain. In his memory, Yelai was a useless key; even as a Sequencer, he couldn't possibly be that impressive. The fact that he had become as strong as Zhang Yinlin, reaching Rank Four, had already shocked him to his core. But now, it was beyond anything he could have imagined.
Am I seeing things, or is there an Entity—a Nightmare—here? Are we currently in the dream of a Nightmare?
Uncle Zhou's expression seemed to convey that every wrinkle on his face was in disbelief. Zhang Yinlin opened her mouth. Watching Yelai unleash a new wave of attacks on Gaze before her, she said in a daze, "It can't be wrong; this is definitely Yelai."
A woman's intuition is often accurate. Although the Yelai before her was beyond imagination and completely different from the frail Yelai from three days ago, her interactions with him over these days made her feel that this Yelai was indeed the same Yelai.
Boom!
In the alley that resembled ruins, loud sounds echoed. Yelai was mercilessly attacking Gaze. The current Gaze was nothing like the Unknown Horror they had faced alongside Zhang Yinlin; it seemed like a toy being tossed around by Yelai.
Most Entities lacked intelligence; they only possessed primal energy. Gaze was no different. After battling with Yelai and failing to penetrate his mental barriers, it realized that the human before it was unlike those it had just faced. This human felt like one of those Entities it could not compete against.
It could neither possess nor confront those Entities. The realm of Entities differed from the Human Realm, existing under a strict hierarchy of survival of the fittest.
Facing the human before him, the Gaze could no longer muster the desire to attack.
Bang!
Once again, he was sent flying by Yelai. The Gaze picked itself up and took off running, the previous defiance and arrogance it had shown while hunting Zhang Yinlin and the others completely vanished.
With a whoosh, it clawed at the wall of a nearby building and leaped onto the rooftop, sprinting away from Yelai at breakneck speed. The entire process was as swift as a fleeing rabbit.
Zhang Yinlin, Uncle Zhou, and the Sixth Team were left dumbfounded. It ran away?
Is this really a retreat?
Oh, it actually ran away?
Yelai tilted his head slightly, a Cthulhu-like smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
Without hesitation, he mimicked the Gaze, using brute strength to claw at the old building's wall, ready to pursue the Gaze.
"Yelai, don't chase it," the Squad Captain stepped forward to stop him.
Zhang Yinlin echoed in agreement. "The Gaze has been scared off by you; it usually won't come back. If you chase after it and provoke it further, that wouldn't be wise."
Incorporeal entities cannot be killed; they can only be sealed or banished. This is a consensus known even among Sequencers.
The Gaze being driven away by Yelai had already achieved the result they most desired.
"Yinlin, I want to pursue this because..."
Yelai understood what Zhang Yinlin meant. He had often heard information about the Entity from Luo Zhenxue and was aware of the matters concerning the Incorporeal Entity. The reason for his pursuit stemmed from a thought that had sparked after learning from the Second Squad that there was a Gaze in Hu Family Village. He wanted to chase after it to see if his idea could be realized.
At that moment, Yelai opened his mouth to explain, but before he could say anything, Uncle Zhou's expression suddenly changed.
"Not good! Yelai, you need to go after the Gaze!"
