Gaze stood there, stunned, clutching its broken nasal bone as it stared at Yelai. The confusion stemmed from instinct. How could its previously effective disguise, which allowed it to hide among living beings without detection, be so easily seen through by this human?
In the past, when encountering higher-ranked Anomalous Entities, it had been unable to possess them but could instead inhabit other Anomalous Entities to evade the pursuit of those stronger than itself.
Now, Yelai charged forward once more. Realizing it was outmatched, Gaze immediately turned to flee towards Xiao Jun and the others.
In the next moment, a face with a strange smile appeared abruptly in its line of sight. Yelai did not give it a chance to possess anyone else, blocking its escape route.
"Are you confused about how I found you?" he asked with an eerie Cthulhu-like grin as he reached for Gaze's neck, intending to lift it off the ground.
Seeing the danger, Gaze turned and ran. Its speed was impressive. Yet Yelai was even faster. Anticipating Gaze's flight, he swiftly intercepted its path as it turned.
And so it went: Gaze ran while Yelai pursued. No matter where Gaze tried to escape, Yelai's Rank 6 strength ensured that there was no way out for Gaze.
"Why are you running? You can't escape!" Yelai taunted as he prevented Gaze from fleeing and unleashed his fury upon it. "I’ll let you run! Go ahead and try! Let’s see if you can get away!"
With each punch that landed on Gaze, they struck hard and mercilessly, showing no mercy whatsoever.
"Is this for my teammates' revenge?"
The voice of Yelai echoed in Uncle Zhou's ears as he murmured to himself. It should be, right? The Squad Captain strained to listen, unable to see but only hear the commotion, which made him restless.
Currently, there was no known method to kill an Incorporeal Anomalous Entity; the only options were to contain or expel it. The way Yelai was attacking didn’t seem like an attempt to seal it, and it certainly didn’t feel like an expulsion either. Just from the sound of Yelai striking the Gaze, he could tell without looking that Yelai was hitting hard. If it were an expulsion, it seemed that the current assault would have been enough to make the Gaze leave this area voluntarily.
"What do you think, Yinlin?" the Squad Captain analyzed further.
"Probably," Zhang Yinlin hesitated for a moment. "But it could also be something else." Having known Yelai for a long time, she didn’t believe that Yelai would seek revenge in such a manner.
Unbeknownst to them, Yelai was oblivious to their discussion, focusing entirely on the Gaze and continuing to pummel it relentlessly.
Before long, it seemed that Yelai felt he had delivered enough blows. He released his grip and stopped pinning the Gaze to the ground, gesturing with simple hand signals before suddenly barking out a command.
"Sit down!"
The abrupt order caught the Gaze off guard, and Zhang Yinlin and the others were equally stunned.
"Don’t understand? I said sit down!"
Yelai pointed downward again, as if training a dog.
Zhang Yinlin and the others were momentarily speechless, bewildered by Yelai's actions. They quickly realized what Yelai had been trying to convey all along. The Squad Captain swallowed hard, his expression one of shock and disbelief.
Yelai must be thinking about taming Gaze.
