The companions were momentarily stunned by Tian Yu's words, their eyes widening in shock. There was no exception among them. They looked as if they had encountered a celestial being, utterly shaken by what their companion had said.
Meanwhile, Xu Limin hobbled along with the aid of a cane, sipping on the bubble tea bought for him by his bodyguard. "Find me information on Luo Zhenxue," he said, taking a sip and chewing on the tapioca pearls. "And if you can get data on Yelai, bring that to me as well."
The bodyguard nodded respectfully and pulled out his phone to make a call.
Before long, the bodyguard glanced at his phone and received a message. He quickly skimmed it and handed it to Xu Limin. "Professor Xu, here is the information on Luo Zhenxue. We don't have any data on Yelai," he said, his expression turning awkward towards the end.
"That's fine," Xu Limin waved him off, passing the bubble tea to the bodyguard as he took the phone. "Yelai was previously listed as 'The Wasted Key,' so it's normal not to find any information in the database. I was just asking casually; just give me what you have on Luo Zhenxue."
As he scrolled through the phone screen, he found that the information on Luo Zhenxue was quite comprehensive, detailing her age, blood type, and more. It also included her background, noting her relationship with Yelai.
Beloved Yelai—wasn't he suspected to have been murdered three years ago? Xu Limin's expression turned contemplative. There seemed to be some discrepancies compared to what the young men had said; was it possible that it had been disguised as an accidental death?
He quickly formed a hypothesis, his interest visibly piqued. Was it Cthulhu that resurrected The Wasted Key into a Sequencer? Or was Yelai somehow special?
"Hey, I remember our research institute conducted an experiment involving sacrifices to resurrect individuals, right? That was the third experimental group led by Lao Zhang."
"Yes, Xu Professor."
After receiving the answer, Xu Limin handed the phone back and continued to extend his hand. The bodyguard immediately retrieved a tablet from his briefcase and handed it over.
Xu Limin took the tablet, quickly logged in to access the permissions, and pulled up all the experimental data from Lao Zhang's research. He spent over an hour reviewing the data.
Once he finished going through everything, he returned the tablet to the bodyguard and had a rough answer in mind.
"Let's put aside the matter of capturing the unique anomalous entity known as Ripper in Safe Zone for now. We need to find Yelai first."
The bodyguards exchanged glances. They were quite familiar with Xu Limin and could tell from his tone that he was intrigued or, rather, that his research desires as a member of their Madness research team had been sparked.
"Xu Professor, is Yelai really that special?"
They guessed correctly; it was likely that Yelai's status as a Sequencer had nothing to do with Cthulhu. Otherwise, Xu Limin wouldn't need to seek him out.
Xu Limin understood what they wanted to ask and didn't mind sharing.
"Cthulhu is one of the few anomalous entities we humans have been able to contact that can be considered a god. It holds significant research value, especially since sacrifices can fulfill wishes. If we manage this well, it could bring unexpected benefits for all humanity. It might even help us turn the tide in our struggle against anomalous entities."
"Therefore, after discovering Cthulhu, I arranged experimental plans for all research teams to start working on sacrifices aimed at various wishes. Unfortunately, while Cthulhu can indeed fulfill various desires, whether it actually does so depends entirely on its mood."
"I just reviewed the data regarding the experiment of asking Cthulhu to grant wishes for resurrecting individuals. The candidates for resurrection included Sequencers as well as ordinary people. After their resurrection, they showed no differences from before; Yelai becoming a Sequencer after resurrection is the first case."
Xu Limin took a sip of his milk tea and continued speaking slowly.
The human eye and hearing can be deceived, but science does not lie. I believe that Lao Zhang would not be vague in his experiments, so there are only two possibilities regarding Yelai. Either he is not dead, and Luo Zhenxue has made a wish to Cthulhu for him to become a Sequencer, or Yelai himself is an anomaly.
Based on the intelligence we currently have, the likelihood of Yelai being dead is greater, and the answer leans more towards the latter. The more he spoke, the more excited he became, his eyes seeming to shine with intensity.
In the next moment, he gulped down the remaining milk tea in one go. After all, most of humanity is still ordinary people, or rather, the "Waste Keys" make up the majority of the population. He paused for a moment, his gaze sharp and serious.
And for a Waste Key like Yelai to become a Sequencer and reach Rank Five—if we could figure out the reason behind this, it would undoubtedly be a historic event.
