On the other side, in the Numbered Protection Zone, Yelai exchanged a few words with Zhang Yinlin before taking Gaze, the Husky, out to buy green peppers.
"Sister Yinlin, besides green peppers, is there anything else you need? I can pick it up all at once."
"Let's also get some eggs and beef," Zhang Yinlin replied as she tied her hair up, preparing to cook. Before entering the kitchen, she glanced at Gaze, whom Yelai was holding onto.
Although taking Gaze into a crowd posed some risks, it was much safer than keeping him locked in the basement. With Yelai watching over him, the danger felt significantly reduced.
Yelai led Gaze out of the house. Their home was a standalone residence with a spacious yard suitable for parking and barbecuing.
At that moment, as he closed the iron gate of the yard and took just a couple of steps outside, he noticed three people approaching from a distance. The moment Yelai spotted them, they also became aware of him.
Hmm?
The three individuals appeared quite ordinary in their attire; most would assume they were just passersby. However, having spent three days outside Cthulhu Town, Yelai had developed an acute sensitivity to danger.
Sequencers?
He quickly sensed that the two individuals flanking the one in the middle exuded a threatening aura. It was clear they were Sequencers and not of low rank.
Yelai's gaze first fell on the two on either side before shifting to the person in the center. In an instant, he felt his attention drawn to that individual.
Despite looking quite average, that face seemed familiar.
In the next moment, a flash of realization struck Yelai's mind as he recalled the identity of the person in the center.
That face looked remarkably like Xu Limin's. Aside from the hair being different than before, his features and even the way he walked with a limp were almost identical to Xu Limin.
Moreover, the other person had been staring at him, as if they were approaching him directly.
Just as the thought crossed Yelai's mind, they met. Xu Limin, limping and leaning on a cane, smiled and extended his hand.
"Hello, you must be Mr. Ye Lai."
"That's me." Yelai raised an eyebrow and politely shook his hand. "You are Professor Xu Limin?"
"Do you know me? It seems I can skip the self-introduction," Xu Limin replied with a smile, handing over his business card.
Looking at the prominent name on the card, Yelai realized he hadn't made a mistake; this was indeed Xu Limin. He instinctively glanced at the two bodyguards beside Xu Limin.
Everything made sense now. No wonder these two gave him a sense of danger; if this man was Xu Limin, then his bodyguards must be powerful Sequencers.
Suddenly, a soft sound pulled Yelai back from his thoughts.
Xu Limin, sensing something, pulled an old silver pocket watch from his pocket. The watch was antique, made of silver, and had a design reminiscent of medieval Western styles. It was gently vibrating at that moment.
Xu Limin pressed it lightly, and the cover popped open. Inside, the black hands were moving back and forth over Roman numerals that indicated five.
Xu Limin scanned the surroundings and quickly noticed the Husky that Yelai was holding.
As he brought the watch closer to the Husky, Yelai saw the black hands on the watch begin to tremble more violently.
A secret artifact?
He was taken aback; even if it hadn't been the case before, it was clear now that the pocket watch was an extraordinary item, most likely a Secret Artifact. In that moment,
