He interrupted again.
"No, I can handle it. Just give it to me."
His tone was resolute.
The members of Team Two were taken aback; from the look in Yelai's eyes, it was clear he wasn't joking. He was serious about this.
Feeling the determination and gravity in Yelai's gaze, they paused for a moment.
Suddenly, a voice crackled through the earpiece of Team Leader of Squad Two.
"Captain, what's the situation on your end? Can you spare some personnel to Signal Point? It's urgent; the defense line has been breached, and some Anomalous Entities have already crossed into the Safe Zone."
Hearing Ena's words, the expression on Team Leader of Squad Two's face changed dramatically.
The situation was extremely critical. There was no time to consider anything else.
He gritted his teeth and asked Yelai, "Are you really sure you can handle this alone?"
"I can, at least for a while." Yelai didn't boast; even though he had confidence, he knew that his bravado wouldn't be believed by others, so he chose to be conservative in his response.
"Alright."
Team Leader of Squad Two nodded and barked orders.
"Everyone follow me to Signal Point to fend off the Anomalous Entities! Move quickly! The defense line at Signal Point has been breached!"
"What?! The defense line at Signal Point has been breached?"
The four supporting Sequencers and Sequence Team members turned pale; they all understood what it meant for the defense line to be compromised.
In an instant, forgetting about Yelai's dangerous proposal, they could only brace themselves and accept it.
"Hang in there, friend! We'll resolve the situation at Signal Point as quickly as possible and come to help you."
"Hold on, it's all up to you now. You have to hang in there a bit longer."
Leaving Yelai alone to hold the Signal Point carries the risk of breaching their defenses; it feels like robbing Peter to pay Paul. But they had no choice but to do so.
If the Signal Point is breached without support, the casualties in the Safe Zone would be devastating. However, if they manage to provide support, there might still be a glimmer of hope. After all, Yelai is there to defend the Signal Point.
They did not expect Yelai to single-handedly hold the Signal Point; they only hoped to buy some time and could only place their hopes on Yelai.
As they watched the Team Leader of Squad Two disappear from sight, Yelai, who was engaged in battle with the Acupoints, suddenly halted his movements. He stood there, motionless.
The surrounding Acupoints paused in confusion, wondering why the human before them had suddenly stopped attacking.
"Keep a safe distance from me and don't let any Acupoint breach this area," Yelai instructed Gaze at that moment.
Gaze hesitated for a moment, looking at Yelai before obediently following his command and stepping back to guard the rear, preventing any Acupoints from breaking through their defenses.
For a brief moment, after their initial confusion, the Acupoints resumed their assault on Yelai. But as they attacked, they all abruptly halted, sensing danger like any creature would.
The Acupoints surrounding Yelai instinctively froze as well, staring at him. They realized something was off about the human before them.
Yelai's face twisted into an eerie smile, his lips curling upward as his crescent-moon-like eyes gradually transformed into a gaze of madness and greed. He began muttering frantically like a madman.
"Not enough, still not enough. I want more, more, more fear!"
It wasn't just his words and actions that had changed.
They also discovered that the human presence before them had changed; it no longer felt like a human, but rather resembled an Anomalous Entity.
