Yelai felt a surge of joy. Without hesitation, he prepared to continue his participation in the defense against the large-scale invasion of the Anomalous Entity in the Numbered Protection Zone. However, there was one more thing to do first.
He glanced around, not forgetting that he had a pet, Gaze.
Then, he sniffed the air, and a Sequence Feature appeared on his face as he activated the Sequence of Fear.
Strictly speaking, it was the Sequence Power of Fear.
Fear pursued him.
Using this Sequence Power, within a ten-meter radius, he could track the scent of fear known to him. No matter where the owner of that fear was, as long as there was a trace of fear left within his range, he could follow it regardless of how long it had been there.
Harnessing this power of the Sequence of Fear, Yelai began to track Gaze. He believed Gaze was nearby because he had previously instructed it to maintain a safe distance from him; thus, Gaze could not be too far away.
Sure enough, he lifted his head and looked at a nearby tree with lush branches and leaves. Upon closer inspection, he spotted an Acupoint curled up among the dense foliage. It was peering at Yelai through the gaps in the leaves, and as Yelai raised his gaze, their eyes met.
"Come down," Yelai commanded the Acupoint.
The leaves rustled as the Acupoint immediately stood up from its perch without hesitation and leaped down, landing with a cloud of dust and dry leaves swirling around it.
"Come here."
Watching it follow his commands, it scampered eagerly in front of him. Even without judging by the fear emanating from it, Yelai could tell just by thinking with his toes that it was Gaze.
Well done.
Yelai patted its head, offering a satisfied smile. As long as you listen to me, I won’t hurt you; instead, I’ll let you benefit. Look, your abilities have improved a bit in reality.
From Gaze's physical condition, Yelai deduced that Gaze had also enhanced its strength and was now close to Rank Six.
He thought to himself while stroking his chin and sizing up Gaze. During the incident at Hu Family Village, he had learned about Gaze from the Second Squad at the Safe Zone, including information about Gaze's Sequence.
Gaze's Sequence Rank advancement was similar to his own. With each Rank increase, one would gain a Sequence Power to compensate for the deficiencies in their Sequence.
According to what he understood, the Gaze before him was Rank Five, thus possessing five types of Sequence powers: Possession, Possession Disguise, Possession Death, Possession Control Sequence, and Dual Eye Transfer.
It was these Sequence powers that made the Anomalous Entity Gaze so terrifying. Therefore, once Gaze's Rank increased to Six and it acquired another Sequence power, its level of terror would escalate further.
Unfortunately, Uncle Zhou didn’t know much about Gaze and couldn’t predict what kind of Sequence power it would gain upon reaching Rank Six.
Yelai continued on his way back to the Signal Point. He would wait for the Zone Protection Library to check some data; after all, he could inquire at the Numbered Protection Zone.
Though he currently had Gaze under control, he couldn't guarantee that its Rank increase wouldn’t lead it to break free from his grasp. He needed to understand Gaze’s information thoroughly to avoid losing control due to its Rank advancement.
The Numbered Protection Zone was where the first case of Gaze occurred within a Safe Zone. If there was anywhere that understood Gaze best, it would undoubtedly be the Numbered Protection Zone.
Yelai couldn't help but quicken his pace. He understood that the Gaze was indeed a measure to prevent it from slipping out of control, but the most crucial step was to elevate his own Rank. As long as his Rank was far superior to the Gaze, he wouldn't have to fear losing control over it.
For this reason, regardless of whether it was for Luo Zhenxue or not, Yelai had to reach Rank Seven as soon as possible.
