Yelai felt as if his heart had opened its eyes. Through the window of his mind, he saw a vast world within the portal of Rank Seven. The sky was like night, an eternal darkness. The expansive land was barren and cracked, with only a few desolate trees scattered across the terrain. The scene was one of desolation and death.
Yet Yelai was not disheartened; with the experience gained from his previous Rank advancements, he did not take the time to admire the lifeless scenery. Instead, he searched this silent world for something. He remained patient, taking his time.
Here, time seemed to flow at a different pace, as if in another dimension. While he spent half a day here, only a moment passed outside.
After observing the world through the portal, Yelai finally spotted his target: a mass of black gas. It appeared not merely as gas but as a living entity. No matter how fiercely the wind blew across the barren land, it could not disperse this gas. It drifted aimlessly through this bleak black world until another creature appeared ahead.
If Sequence Studies' Xu Min were present, he would surely recognize this newly emerged creature as an Anomalous Entity known as the Hanged Ghost. The Hanged Ghost, dragging the rope around its neck, wandered aimlessly until it drew near to the mass of black gas.
The distance between them shrank to five meters.
The Hanged Ghost began to change. Its hollow, dead eyes trembled as it instinctively clutched its head with both hands, emitting a terrified wail as if it had seen a ghost, trembling in panic. It was unimaginable that such a formidable Anomalous Entity could be so frightened by a mere mass of black gas.
But that was exactly what happened.
Before long, the black gas passed by the Hanged Ghost.
The Hanged Ghost, maintaining a fearful expression while clutching its head, collapsed to the ground, lifeless. Yelai looked around, his mind clear in the midst of chaos, understanding the scene before him. So this is what it means to reach Rank Seven of Sequence Power; no wonder it is said that Rank Seven is a watershed moment, a qualitative change.
With this thought in mind, it seemed that Yelai's realization triggered something. The Black Sequence Key clicked as it withdrew from the ancient door's lock. In that instant, Yelai felt as if another dimension of thought had been opened. Looking around again, there were no doors in sight—only the environment of Signal Points, Acupoints, and various Sequences.
He carefully observed the hands of his watch. They showed no signs of movement since he had left. Clearly, the series of events surrounding Yelai's Rank elevation had not taken even a second.
However, that did not mean others were unaware.
