Woof!
Gaze called out in response to Yelai, then turned to look ahead.
Yelai followed his gaze.
In front of them stood two members of the Sequence Team, working in perfect harmony to deal with a creature before them. They were just about to strike at one of the creatures when suddenly, without warning, that creature collapsed before their eyes, its gaze vacant and clearly lifeless.
Huh?
They were momentarily stunned, unable to comprehend what had just happened. But in the next second, as the creature fell, their line of sight was no longer obstructed, and both of them saw Yelai standing ahead.
He helped us.
They quickly realized the situation. The fallen creature had been between Yelai and the two of them; they couldn't see Yelai, but the creature's head had allowed them to glimpse Yelai behind it.
That’s what they thought.
However, Yelai understood the truth clearly and instinctively lowered his gaze to the husky beside him, Gaze.
Woof!
At that moment, Husky barked at Yelai, wagging its tail excitedly. It looked like a dog seeking praise from its owner after accomplishing something.
Then, noticing Yelai looking over, it lifted its head again and gazed forward at the other four creatures battling against the two Sequencers. Without exception, all four creatures locked eyes with Gaze.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
One by one, the four heads fell to the ground, their robust bodies crashing down and kicking up a cloud of dust and grass.
In contrast, Gaze remained at Yelai's feet, panting with its tongue out and wagging its tail. It hadn't moved an inch, simply barking happily at Yelai, seeking praise.
Yelai couldn't help but let out a soft "Hmm," scratching the dog's chin.
So this is what your Rank [6] Sequence Power is, huh?
Woof!
Receiving a response from Gaze, Yelai felt a twinge of confusion. Based on current observations, the Rank [6] Sequence Power displayed by Gaze seemed no different from before. It appeared that Gaze had not acquired any new Sequence Power.
But that couldn't be the case. An increase in Rank must indicate a completion of the Sequence, and it was impossible for there to be no gains.
Recalling the Sequence Power that Gaze possessed when it was at Rank [ ], including Possession, Possession Disguise, Death Possession, Possession Control Sequence, and Dual Eye Transfer, it seemed that visually, Gaze was demonstrating Possession and Death Possession.
This meant that it was using its gaze to perform Possession on the heads, applying Death Possession to kill them before returning to Husky.
Yelai understood that for Gaze to possess a target did not guarantee death; it needed to execute Death Possession for that to happen.
Since Husky was still alive, it appeared that Gaze had not used Death Possession on it.
The entire process seemed to unfold this way.
Yet, Yelai didn't think so. Why?
He had been paying close attention to Husky. Throughout the deaths of the four heads, there had been no unusual behavior from it; it remained crouched all along. If Gaze had left Husky to possess one of the heads, there should have been a brief moment when it wasn't possessed. During that time, it should have exhibited some other corresponding actions.
No matter how low a dog's intelligence might be, if it suddenly wakes up in an unfamiliar environment, it would at least get up and look around in confusion.
However, Yelai did not do any of that. The Husky seemed to be possessed by the Gaze all along.
