Yelai's appearance was easily recognizable; each person was walking a Husky, making it clear who they were without needing to check identification.
I am Leisha, the Vice Captain of the Numbered Protection Zone's Third Squad.
Leisha performed the Sequencer etiquette. He had received notice the previous night that a Vice Captain from the Sequence Team would be arriving at the Numbered Protection Zone to undertake a mission for Bloody Mary Blood sequence material acquisition. He had been waiting here since early morning.
I am Yelai, the Vice Captain of the Numbered Protection Zone's Eighth Squad.
The two exchanged brief introductions and pleasantries as Leisha drove Yelai to their pre-arranged accommodation.
"Ye's Deputy Team, I heard you just joined the Numbered Protection Zone," Leisha chatted with Yelai during the drive.
"Yes, I joined yesterday."
"That's impressive! You’re young and already part of the Numbered Protection Zone, and in the Eighth Squad no less. I remember that's Captain Luo Zhenxue's squad, right?"
"Yes."
"It seems I wasn't mistaken; you actually made it into the Eighth Squad."
"Are you familiar with the Eighth Squad, Vice Captain?"
"Haha, how could I not be? Your Eighth Squad has been nominated and will soon have its own Special Team Number Sequence Squad, especially under Captain Luo Zhenxue's leadership."
Yelai smiled without much surprise. "It's not me who's impressive; it's Zhenxue leading the squad. I'm just riding on his coattails."
"Haha, you’re being modest, Ye's Deputy Team. Anyone who can join the Special Team Number Sequence Squad is certainly a top-tier individual," Leisha remarked with a hint of admiration.
"I was wondering why someone would dare to hunt Bloody Mary; it’s been ages since anyone attempted it. The last time someone took on a hunting mission was half a year ago. So it turns out Ye's Deputy Team comes from a Special Team Number Sequencer," he chuckled.
"Thank you for the compliment, Vice Captain. Our squad has only been nominated; we haven't officially acquired a Special Team Number yet—it's still far from certain," Yelai replied, not surprised by the nomination of a special squad.
While in the Numbered Protection Zone, he had heard rumors about Luo Zhenxue's Eighth Squad being granted a Special Team Number while looking into news about him.
Under normal circumstances, the Sequence Team is named using numbers, with the team name holding no particular meaning. Generally, in certain Safe Zones, a lower number indicates a stronger Squad. However, this is not the case in the Numbered Protection Zone.
The Eighth Squad is called the Eighth Squad not because it ranks eighth in the Numbered Protection Zone, but simply because Luo Zhenxue inherited the name of this Eighth Squad.
The Special Team Number Sequence Squad, on the other hand, is different.
The Special Team Number Sequence Squad represents an honor for those who have made outstanding contributions or possess great strength within the Sequence Team. It symbolizes true reputation and power. While for ordinary people, entering the Frontline Protection Zone is their greatest dream, for a Sequencer, joining the Special Team Number Sequence Squad is the ultimate aspiration.
As for Luo Zhenxue and the Eighth Squad, they are about to be nominated for this honor by the Numbered Protection Zone, with approval from the Global Sequence Association. Once successful, the Eighth Squad will be replaced by the Special Team Number, fulfilling the dreams of many Sequencers who wish to join a Sequence Team.
In fact, this is also why Deo is so eager to join—not only because he admires Luo Zhenxue, but also because if he succeeds in being nominated, he too will become a member of the special-named Sequence Team. This is also why he feels resentment towards Yelai. A newcomer to the Sequencer ranks becoming a Vice Captain is one thing; what really stings is that he is also Luo Zhenxue’s boyfriend and soon to be a Vice Captain of the special-named Sequence Team. It's hard not to feel envious and jealous.
