Wang Fugui felt utterly shocked by the deaths of Lin Tao and Zhao Lizhu. He never expected that the person living in that safe house would be such a ruthless killer. He knew that both individuals had been shot dead, and he suspected it was Lu Xiaoran who had used that handgun again. However, one thing puzzled him greatly.
On the day Lin Tao returned, Wang Fugui had asked him for the details of what happened. Lin Tao told him that the person in the safe house had first released poison gas outside, forcing them to retreat before opening fire on them. Wang Fugui couldn't understand where the poison gas had come from; it couldn't have been stored in the house for Wu Jian's use, as that seemed illogical.
Now it appeared that both the house and its occupant were shrouded in mystery. If they continued to send villagers to attack the safe house, what if that person had hidden even more powerful weapons? After a brief hesitation, Wang Fugui decided to send someone to retrieve the garbage Lu Xiaoran had thrown out this time, wanting to confirm what was inside.
When he opened the woven bag, Wang Fugui found remnants of high-end ingredients just like last time: King Crab claws, Bluefin Tuna heads, and large beef bones. These items still had plenty of leftover meat on them, indicating that the person in the house didn't value food at all and would casually discard what they didn't want.
It seemed that this individual must have hoarded a considerable amount of food—enough to last a lifetime. With this thought in mind, Wang Fugui felt it was necessary to take a risk. If they could seize such a large quantity of food, it would be worth it even if dozens more people died in the process.
Having made up his mind, Wang Fugui began to strategize how to breach the safe house. The ambush method he had used before was no longer viable, especially since Lin Tao and Zhao Lizhu had lost their lives. Their deaths had instilled fear in the young men he had previously gathered; they were unwilling to return to waiting at the safe house door as before.
After pondering for a while, Wang Fugui called over the group of young men and slowly addressed them: "Instead of ambushing him directly, let's avoid contact altogether. We'll dig a trap beforehand and wait for him to walk right into it."
Wang Fugui's plan was to dig a three-meter-deep pit at the entrance of the safe house and set up spikes at the bottom. This way, when Lu Xiaoran stepped out, he would fall directly into the pit and be impaled by the spikes.
"But Director Wang," one of the young men voiced his concern, "what if he comes out while we're digging?" He was already wary of Lu Xiaoran after hearing about how three people had been killed by him.
"We'll dig at night and leave before dawn," Wang Fugui reassured them. "This way, we won't have to worry about running into him." He recalled that Lu Xiaoran had only come out during the day to throw away trash; logically speaking, he shouldn't be out at night.
Moreover, everyone needs to sleep at night. He wanted the villagers to dig the trap while Lu Xiaoran was asleep. By the time morning came, they could finish up and leave, waiting in a safe place for their opportunity.
After listening to Wang Fugui's explanation, the others found it reasonable and hurried back to gather tools for digging a pit.
Around nine o'clock in the evening, they arrived at the front of the safe house with iron shovels and spades. After a quick estimation of the width of the outer door, they decided to dig a pit that was four meters wide, four meters long, and three meters deep.
