Lu Xiaoran showed no signs of coughing at all.
"Alright, please register your name, and you can go in," one of the guards said.
After Lu Xiaoran's name was recorded in the ledger, the two guards stepped aside, gesturing for him to enter the sanctuary.
As Lu Xiaoran walked through the main entrance, he raised his head to look at the sanctuary ahead. The building stood about thirty meters tall and had ten floors. It was painted in a light color, giving it a clean and elegant appearance.
At the entrance of the sanctuary, there was a sign that read "Fog Mountain Sanctuary" in large letters.
Lu Xiaoran took a step forward toward the entrance. At that moment, the young man with the Electric Shock Ability turned around and spotted Lu Xiaoran.
"Hey, are you also joining this sanctuary? Are you an Ability user?" he asked.
Seeing Lu Xiaoran nod, the young man continued, "My Ability is Electric Shock; what about you?"
Lu Xiaoran casually replied, "Immunity to Poison Gas."
The young man paused for a moment after hearing this, then stared at Lu Xiaoran for a while longer. He noticed that Lu Xiaoran showed no symptoms of being affected by poison gas.
The young man grinned; he hadn't expected such an Ability to exist. "Haha, what a weak Ability."
Lu Xiaoran smiled nonchalantly; this was exactly the effect he wanted. It would be best if others thought his Ability was weak like this young man's, allowing him to carry out his plans more easily.
The young man walked alongside Lu Xiaoran as they approached the entrance of the sanctuary.
In front of the entrance was a table where a young woman sat with a notebook in hand. When she saw the two approaching, she greeted them, "Please register your names and types of Abilities here."
"Then head to the second room on the first floor; the leader will assign you your tasks."
After both filled out their information, they entered through the main door of the sanctuary one after the other.
Following the instructions of the woman, the two of them entered the second room on the first floor.
Inside, sitting behind a table, was a man in his thirties known as Zhang Kai. Upon seeing them enter, he waved them over, indicating for them to take a seat in the nearby chairs.
Lu Xiaoran recognized him as the same person from the recruitment video he had seen online. He remembered that this man was named Zhang Kai, and it seemed he was the leader of this shelter.
After inviting them to sit down, Zhang Kai spoke up, "What are your abilities? Could you demonstrate them for me here?"
When he learned that Lu Xiaoran's ability was Immunity to Poison Gas, a thoughtful expression crossed Zhang Kai's face as he silently mused: This ability is basically useless except for saving a gas mask. In a one-on-one situation, it’s no different from an ordinary person’s capabilities.
He decided to pair Lu Xiaoran with the person next to him who had Electric Shock Ability for their mission.
With his mind made up, Zhang Kai addressed the two of them: "When you carry out your mission, you will work together. The task involves scavenging supplies from residential buildings. You should know what that entails, right?"
A sly smile crept across Zhang Kai's lips as his eyes glinted at the two of them.
