Lu Xiaoran glanced at the time on his phone; it had been ten minutes since Li Zhiqiang collapsed on the ground. Li Zhiqiang's face had lost all color, appearing as pale as a sheet of paper, suggesting he was already cold.
Standing up, Lu Xiaoran used his Ability to create a pair of headphones and put them on. He adjusted his expression and murmured to himself, "Now I need to play the role of the first witness to discover the murder scene."
With the headphones on, Lu Xiaoran quickly walked over to Li Zhiqiang's body, pretending to check the situation, and reached out to touch him. Then he hurriedly ran downstairs to Zhang Kai's room on the first floor.
Pushing open the door, Lu Xiaoran feigned a look of panic and exclaimed loudly to Zhang Kai, "Boss, Li Zhiqiang has been murdered!"
Zhang Kai's face showed surprise as he quickly stood up from his chair and asked Lu Xiaoran, "Where was he killed? Who did it?"
Lu Xiaoran hurriedly explained, "Right at the entrance of room 302. I was wearing headphones and didn't hear anything outside. By the time I noticed him, he was already gone."
Zhang Kai stepped closer to Lu Xiaoran, urgency in his voice as he said, "Take me to see."
The two of them quickly ascended the stairs and arrived at the entrance of room 302 on the third floor. Zhang Kai saw three bodies lying in the hallway. Two of them were charred black, seemingly killed by Li Zhiqiang using his Ability. Li Zhiqiang himself had two daggers embedded in him, indicating he likely bled out.
Zhang Kai called over several guards from the shelter and instructed them to remove the bodies from the hallway. "Let's pull up the footage and see how Li Zhiqiang died," he said.
He found someone responsible for managing the shelter and asked him to open a computer to retrieve the surveillance footage from the hallway. Adjusting the time to half an hour earlier, Zhang Kai stared intently at the screen.
He noticed Huang Lianjiang and his daughter approaching with daggers from around the corner of the hallway. They arrived at the entrance of room 302 and exchanged a few words with Li Zhiqiang before taking advantage of his unguarded moment to stab him.
Although they succeeded in killing Li Zhiqiang, they did not escape unscathed; both were electrocuted by Li Zhiqiang's Ability. These two must be residents of this shelter, Zhang Kai thought with a furrowed brow.
After breaking through the Fog Mountain Sanctuary, he had initially decided not to have the residents killed, intending to keep them as laborers. However, just three or four days later, an Ability user was killed by those very residents.
It seemed that keeping these people around was a mistake; it would be better to deal with them sooner rather than later. A glint of cold light flashed in Zhang Kai's eyes as he contemplated this in his heart. Although the residents lacked abilities, they could still wield weapons and kill Ability users through ambush tactics.
If he continued to allow these residents to stay in the sanctuary, the Ability users he had painstakingly recruited might end up being killed by them. Therefore, it was necessary to eliminate these residents completely to prevent any future incidents like this one.
At noon, once all thirty or so Ability users had gathered in the sanctuary, Zhang Kai called them before him. With a serious expression, he spoke loudly to them:
"This morning, one of our companions was killed by a resident of this sanctuary. To prevent such an incident from happening again, I have decided to clear out those residents immediately. Does anyone have any objections?"
