Since they couldn't be given guns, each of them would be equipped with a knife instead. After all, such weapons wouldn't cause mass destruction, and in their hands, there was no need to worry about them threatening our safety.
The only ones Zhang Kai could trust were the few cellmates he had shared a prison with. They had spent several years together, knowing each other inside out and sharing everything. Zhang Kai wasn't concerned that these individuals would betray him.
It was those newly recruited Ability users from just a few days ago that Zhang Kai couldn't trust at all. In his eyes, they were merely tools to help him achieve his goals. Therefore, he hadn't assigned any weapons to them over the past few days. He only allowed them to go into the residential buildings unarmed to rob.
Even as tools, they were still valuable resources—not something to be discarded without a second thought. Thus, Zhang Kai decided to equip these individuals with some cold weapons like Machete, so they wouldn't end up like today, easily killed by ordinary people without Ability.
At noon, Zhang Kai gathered all the Ability users in the shelter and spoke loudly to them: "Friends of Fog Mountain Sanctuary, I have something to tell you. When you go out to gather supplies, conflicts with the residents of those buildings are inevitable. For everyone's safety, I've decided to equip each of you with a Machete and a dagger."
He gestured towards the ground beside him where a red cloth was spread out, displaying dozens of Machete and daggers that gleamed ominously in the sunlight. The crowd lined up as instructed by Zhang Kai.
After collecting their knives, they turned and headed toward the main entrance of the shelter. Among them was Lu Xiaoran, who picked up a Machete and a dagger from the ground. Just as he stood up and prepared to leave, Zhang Kai approached and called out to him.
"Lu Xiaoran, I've found someone for you to team up with; go meet him."
Considering Lu Xiaoran's ability, Immunity to Poison Gas, is quite weak, Zhang Kai was still reluctant to let him act alone. He decided to find another Ability user, preparing for them to team up with Lu Xiaoran.
Lu Xiaoran nodded at him. Being able to team up with another Ability user would make it easier for Lu Xiaoran to copy the other person's ability. Zhang Kai's arrangement happened to align perfectly with Lu Xiaoran's intentions.
The two of them made their way to the third floor, with Zhang Kai leading the way to room 303. He raised his hand and knocked on the door a few times.
"Who is it?"
The door was opened by a bald man wearing sunglasses, appearing to be in his thirties. He had a cigarette dangling from his mouth, and upon seeing Zhang Kai, he pinched the cigarette between two fingers and spoke up, "Boss, is this the kid you mentioned who will team up with me?"
Zhang Kai nodded at him and replied, "That's right. This is Lu Xiaoran. His ability is Immunity to Poison Gas."
The bald man paused for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Haha, this is the first time I've heard of such a weak ability."
Zhang Kai waved his hand dismissively. "Hua Long, don't look down on his ability just because it's weak. Having an extra helper is definitely more efficient than going solo."
