Yang Yin and Tang Mo left Lu Xiaoran's room. As they walked up the stairs together, Tang Mo turned her head and quietly said to Yang Yin, "Cousin, I don't think Lu Xiaoran is lying. He probably really doesn't know anything about Little Ma."
Yang Yin shook his head in response. "Maybe that's true, but that kid could also be putting on an act. We can't trust him too easily. After we go out tomorrow, we need to keep a close eye on him and make sure he doesn't pull any tricks behind our backs."
Tang Mo nodded in agreement, and the two continued down the stairs until they reached Zhang Kaiwen's room on the first floor.
"Boss, we've probed according to your instructions, and we didn't find anything suspicious. Lu Xiaoran probably really doesn't know about Little Ma," Yang Yin reported.
Zhang Kaiwen nodded after hearing this. He picked up a cup of tea from the table and took a sip before slowly speaking, "It seems this matter has nothing to do with Lu Xiaoran. However, you still can't let your guard down; keep a close watch on him."
"I'll prepare a handgun for each of you. If you see Lu Xiaoran doing anything suspicious, you can shoot him at any time," Zhang Kaiwen added.
He retrieved two handguns from a cardboard box in the corner and handed them to Yang Yin and Tang Mo after loading them with bullets.
The next morning at eight o'clock, four Ability users drove out from the shelter. They were the ones Zhang Kaiwen had sent the previous night to check the scene where Ma Zhibiao was killed.
They parked their car near Ma Zhibiao's body and kept watch throughout the night without seeing any other vehicles pass by. Following their agreement with Zhang Kaiwen, they drove back to the shelter at eight in the morning.
"Yang Yin, Tang Mo, you two need to take Lu Xiaoran with you right now and head out to change shifts with those people," Zhang Kaiwen instructed.
His plan was to always have a few people remain at the scene so that when someone came by, they could capture them. Therefore, he didn't want the area to be left unattended.
He called for Yang Yin, urging him to act quickly.
"Understood, Boss. I'll go right away," Yang Yin replied before immediately looking for his cousin Tang Mo.
The two of them went up to the third floor, called out for Lu Xiaoran, and then set off together.
They drove away from the shelter and soon reached the intersection where Ma Zhibiao's body was found.
"Alright, let's stop the car here," Yang Yin said as he pressed on the brake pedal, bringing the vehicle to a swift halt.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Lu Xiaoran turned his head to look out the window.
Amidst the pale yellow toxic gas, two massive shadows could be faintly seen. Lu Xiaoran knew that these were the same vehicles he had encountered yesterday when he left the shelter: the car and the van that had been tailing him, driven by those in protective gear.
The leader had mentioned that someone might drive over here soon. When the time came, they would take action to capture them and bring them back to the shelter, where they would be required to reveal their identities.
After explaining a few things to Lu Xiaoran, Yang Yin pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one with a lighter, and began to smoke quietly.
"Lu Xiaoran, I heard your ability is immunity to toxic gas. So if you enter this area filled with poison, will nothing happen to you?" Tang Mo, sitting in the back seat with a smile, leaned forward to engage Lu Xiaoran in conversation.
