The Golden Dragon and the Crimson Phoenix circled above the Shen Family, their roars echoing through the skies, enveloping the area in a powerful aura that suddenly surged towards the Wuding Marquisate.
At the same time, within the capital, countless formidable presences shot into the sky. Each of these individuals was a top-tier expert from the Qian Sheng Empire, all of them looking up with piercing gazes towards the source of the light.
Was that a dragon? A phoenix? An elderly man clad in a Purple Gold Dragon Robe stood at the highest point of the palace, staring at the massive figures that flickered in and out of view in the distant sky, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief.
"Go! Confirm immediately where that location is!"
"Yes! I will check right away!"
At the Wuding Marquisate, in the inner courtyard bedroom.
A baby's cry suddenly pierced through the tense atmosphere of the room.
"It's here! It's a boy!" The midwife emerged with a chubby, fair-skinned baby, her face beaming with joy.
"Good! Good! Good!" The Wuding Marquis, Chen Yuantu, rubbed his hands together excitedly, repeating the word "good" three times, his face alight with happiness.
Just then, a startled voice came from outside the door.
"Old Madam, please slow down!"
An elderly woman with silver hair but a spirited demeanor hurriedly entered, supported by a maid.
"Yan'er! How is Yan'er?" The Old Madam asked anxiously as soon as she stepped inside.
"Mother, Yan'er is fine. She delivered smoothly. Look, it's a big chubby boy!" Chen Yuantu quickly stepped forward to support the Old Madam and said with a smile.
"Good! Good! Good!" The Old Madam looked at Xu Yan'er lying pale on the bed and at the midwife holding the baby, her face breaking into a joyful smile.
"Mother, look how handsome this child is! He looks just like Jian and Yuantu when they were young!" The Old Madam exclaimed as she held the baby, growing fonder by the moment.
Suddenly, it seemed as if she sensed something. She abruptly raised her head and gazed out of the window.
"What is that?"
Two beams of light streaked across the sky, intertwining in midair before finally transforming into an illusion of a dragon and a phoenix. Though they were extremely distant, the pressure emanating from them made the Old Madam's heart race.
"The dragon and phoenix bring good fortune! This is an auspicious sign!" The Old Madam said excitedly. "Yuantu, look quickly! Your son will surely achieve great things in the future!"
Chen Yuantu gazed at the two fading lights in the sky, his heart stirred by a tumult of emotions. The sight of the dragon and phoenix together was a rare omen, one that appeared only once in a millennium! Could it be that his son was destined for greatness from the moment he arrived?
He suddenly turned to look at the baby in the Midwife's arms. The infant was chubby and fair, with a toothless mouth open in peaceful slumber. The more Chen Yuantu looked, the more he felt an undeniable aura of heroism emanating from the child's brows. Surely, he would achieve great things in the future!
"Hahaha! Wonderful! Truly, Heaven has blessed my Chen Family!" Chen Yuantu couldn't help but laugh heartily, his joy beyond words.
Meanwhile, far away, the members of the Shen Family felt as if they had endured a long ordeal. The terrifying pressure that had loomed over them slowly began to dissipate. Shen Yunting let out a long sigh of relief, feeling his back drenched in cold sweat.
The overwhelming presence had felt like an ancient beast from primordial times, looming over them and ready to crush them into dust at any moment. "What kind of person could emit such a probing aura?" Yeh Jing-Shu asked, her face pale and voice trembling.
Shen Yunting shook his head, his eyes filled with horror. One thing was certain: that presence was definitely not something they could provoke!
Silence fell over the group as fear and unease filled their hearts. Just as they were grappling with their dread, two exquisitely chiseled children dressed in fine silk garments wobbled over to Shen Wanzhou and clung to her legs.
"Mother!" Their tender voices rang out clearly.
Shen Wanzhou felt as if her mind had exploded; she was completely stunned. Her children had only been born a few days ago—how could they already speak?!
Not just her, but even the maids in the room, along with Shen Yunting and Yeh Jing-Shu, were left dumbfounded as if they had seen a ghost.
"Mother, hug us!" Chen Li and Shen Qingyue called out, pulling Shen Yunting and Yeh Jing-Shu from their shock.
Finally coming to her senses, Shen Wanzhou looked at the two beautiful children before her, and a wave of maternal love surged within her.
"Good children, come here for a hug," she said with trembling hands as she embraced Chen Li and Shen Qingyue, her eyes brimming with tears.
My Baby, My Baby
In the blink of an eye, three months had passed. Chen Li and Shen Qingyue had grown to the height of one-year-old toddlers, able to run and jump, their speech becoming increasingly clear.
The members of the Shen Family had gradually become accustomed to their unusual behavior, but their worries had not diminished in the slightest; instead, as time went on, their concerns grew heavier.
"Yun Ting, do you think we can keep this from others? Look at Chen Li and Shen Qingyue playing in the yard," Yeh Jing-Shu said, her eyes filled with worry. "You can't hide fire under paper forever. What if..."
Shen Yunting sighed, "But for now, we can only take it one step at a time."
However, things often did not go as planned. Just as the Shen Family was cautiously concealing the abnormalities of Chen Li and Shen Qingyue, news about the Shen Family's Dragon and Phoenix Twins spread rapidly throughout the capital.
Soon, Chen Yuantu, residing in Wuding Marquisate, received the news. While teasing his son Chen Ming, he changed slightly in expression upon hearing it; the rattle he held fell to the ground with a dull thud.
"What did you say?" Shen Wanzhou exclaimed. "Those Dragon and Phoenix Twins have grown to the size of one-year-old children in just three months and can speak clearly while running and jumping?"
"It's absolutely true, Marquis! This news has spread throughout the entire capital. Everyone is saying that the Shen Family's Dragon and Phoenix Twins are gifted children destined for greatness!"
Xu Yan'er, sitting nearby and initially listening indifferently, perked up at the mention of 'gifted children.'
"Marquis," Xu Yan'er said, masking the coldness in her eyes with a feigned concern. "Could it be true? Shen Wanzhou is just a useless person; how could her children be so extraordinary? What if they end up clashing with our son? Wouldn't that just create more enemies for him?"
Chen Yuantu scoffed disdainfully. "What is Shen Wanzhou? Does she even deserve to have gifted children? I suspect this news is mostly false; perhaps the Shen Family is deliberately spreading rumors to turn their fortunes around!"
A flicker of malice flashed in Xu Yan'er's eyes but was quickly concealed as she spoke softly. "You're right, Marquis. The Shen Family has always been full of tricks; we must remain vigilant."
Chen Yuantu furrowed his brow, seemingly affected by Xu Yan'er's words.
"In that case," he said with a smirk, "why not seize those two little bastards and make them servants for our Ming'er?"
