In that era of scarcity and hardship, Zhang Qi and his good friend Monkey were constantly overshadowed by the shadow of financial struggle.
Zhang Qi was a young man who had read some ancient texts and had a slight understanding of historical secrets, while Monkey was clever, energetic, and incredibly bold.
One day, Zhang Qi stumbled upon a book at an old book stall, which vaguely mentioned an ancient tomb located in Youling, said to contain endless treasures.
Driven by poverty and greed, the two decided to embark on this journey filled with the unknown and danger: Tomb Raiding.
After much effort, they finally arrived at Youling, a remote and desolate place shrouded in ancient legends.
As soon as they set foot on this land, strange occurrences began to unfold.
At night, they rested in a dilapidated temple in the mountains. The wind howled past them, as if someone was whispering in their ears, or like the wails of a Vengeful Spirit.
Monkey nervously gripped his shovel and whispered to Zhang Qi, "Brother, this place feels really sinister. Should we have come here?"
Though Zhang Qi felt a bit uneasy himself, he forced himself to remain calm. "Since we are here, we might as well make ourselves comfortable. As long as we find that ancient tomb, we'll be rich."
After days of searching, they finally discovered the entrance to the tomb in a secluded valley.
The entrance was covered by vines and massive stones, emanating an air of decay and antiquity.
Cautiously, they entered the tomb passage. A pungent odor filled the narrow corridor, and eerie Phosphorescence flickered on the walls.
"Is there really going to be Zongzi in this tomb?" Monkey said tremulously.
Zhang Qi carefully observed the murals along the passage while replying, "Don't scare yourself; those are just legends." However, despite his words, his palms were already slick with sweat.
As they ventured deeper, they arrived at a burial chamber. In the center of the chamber stood a massive stone sarcophagus, its lid engraved with strange runes.
As they approached the stone coffin, a sudden dull thud echoed, as if something inside was striking against the walls.
The monkey turned pale with fear and exclaimed, "Brother, there must be something in that coffin! Let's get out of here!"
However, Zhang Qi was captivated by the runes on the coffin. He felt that these symbols concealed a tremendous secret.
"Wait, don't rush off just yet," Zhang Qi said, stopping the monkey as he pulled out tools from his backpack, attempting to decipher the runes.
At that moment, the temperature in the tomb plummeted, and their breath crystallized into white frost.
Suddenly, a withered hand reached out from beneath the stone coffin and grasped the monkey's ankle.
The monkey screamed in terror, struggling desperately. "Brother, help me!"
Zhang Qi hurriedly swung his shovel at the hand but found it as hard as iron.
After a struggle, they finally broke free from the grip and fled deeper into the ancient tomb in a panic.
In a side passage, they stumbled upon numerous skeletons, some of which were impaled with sharp weapons.
Zhang Qi picked up a bone fragment and examined it closely. "These people must have been tomb raiders before us. It seems the dangers in this tomb are far beyond what we imagined."
Deep within the tomb, they discovered a hidden chamber.
The chamber was filled with gold and silver jewelry, but amidst the treasures lay a box emitting an eerie glow.
Zhang Qi slowly approached the box. The moment he opened it, a shadow shot out from within and lunged straight at the monkey.
The monkey collapsed instantly, unconscious.
Zhang Qi watched in terror as the shadow circled in the tomb before disappearing from sight.
He stayed by the monkey's side, unsure of what to do.
Suddenly, he noticed a map appearing on the wall of the secret chamber, marking the exit of the ancient tomb along with some strange symbols. He realized that this might be the key to escaping the tomb.
Zhang Qi picked up the monkey and followed the map's guidance.
Along the way, they encountered various traps, including hidden holes that shot poison arrows and quicksand pits that could swallow a person whole.
Using his wits and agility, Zhang Qi repeatedly turned peril into safety.
Finally, they saw the exit of the ancient tomb.
However, just as they were about to step out, a tremendous rumbling sound came from behind them.
Zhang Qi turned around to see the entire tomb beginning to collapse.
Clenching his teeth, he charged forward with the monkey on his back.
In a moment of desperation, they escaped from the tomb.
Zhang Qi looked back at the crumbling structure, feeling a mix of emotions within him.
This tomb raiding experience had nearly cost them their lives and revealed to them the terror and mystery of an unknown world.
After returning home, the monkey remained unconscious.
Zhang Qi searched everywhere for a doctor, but nothing seemed to help. He knew deep down that this was due to a curse from the ancient tomb.
In order to save the monkey, Zhang Qi decided to delve deeper into the study of the Fragment and some items he had brought back from the tomb, hoping to find a way to break the curse.
During his research, Zhang Qi discovered new clues about the ancient tomb.
It turned out that this tomb belonged to an ancient sorcerer, and the dark shadow was the sorcerer's malevolent spirit. The monkey had been possessed by this spirit, which was why it lay in a deep coma.
To save the monkey, he needed to find the sorcerer's magical artifact and seal it away.
Following the clues, Zhang Qi set off on a journey to locate the artifact.
He arrived at an old village where many legends about the sorcerer were told.
There, he met an elder who knew many secrets of the ancient tombs. With the elder's help, Zhang Qi discovered the whereabouts of the artifact.
The artifact was hidden in an abandoned ancient temple.
As Zhang Qi entered the temple, he found it covered in dust and cobwebs.
Behind a statue in the temple, he located the artifact.
However, just as he picked it up, a swarm of bats flew out from the ceiling and swooped toward him.
Zhang Qi swung the artifact and fought against the bats.
After finally shaking off the bats, Zhang Qi hurried back with the talisman in hand.
He followed the ancient ritual, attempting to seal the malevolent spirit.
During the sealing process, the spirit struggled relentlessly, trying to break free from its confines. Zhang Qi exerted all his strength and ultimately succeeded in sealing the spirit away.
As the spirit was sealed, the monkey gradually began to awaken.
Looking at Zhang Qi, gratitude filled his eyes. "Brother, I owe you my life this time. I will never dare to mention Tomb Raiding again."
Zhang Qi smiled faintly. "After this experience, I've come to understand that some things are not meant for us to touch. The secrets behind this ancient tomb should be treated as a nightmare."
From that day on, Zhang Qi and the monkey led a simple life.
Yet every time the night grew quiet, Zhang Qi would remember the Ancient Tomb of Youling and the terrifying experiences within it, a chill creeping into his heart.
He knew that many unknown secrets still lay hidden within that tomb, but he no longer had the courage to seek them out.
The Fragment was buried deep underground, as if only by doing so could he completely bid farewell to those thrilling days of Tomb Raiding.
Days turned into weeks as Zhang Qi and the monkey worked hard, trying to forget that horrifying experience.
However, fate seemed unwilling to let them go.
