Misha's expression instantly darkened. "What nonsense are you talking about!"
She kept telling herself not to believe it, yet she couldn't help but want to know more. With Abbot around, how could her master possibly be dead?
"I swear it's true! Abbot is always busy with Riri's affairs; he doesn't have the time to keep an eye on Master. Ever since Master moved to Thinking Cliff, he has become even more withdrawn. He already felt guilty towards the temple, so how could he confide in anyone about his situation?"
It was only her who constantly thought about him. Since she often visited, it was easy for her to check on him.
Thinking Cliff's Three Thoughts Cave—she guessed you hadn't seen it before. It wasn't a pleasant place. Located on the shady side of a steep mountain, it housed a group of stone caves formed by cliffs. About ten caves were used to punish monks who had committed serious offenses.
When Misha went there, Wisdom Supreme personally escorted her and chose the best cave for her master. He even prepared bedding and everything needed. At first, things were manageable; Wisdom Supreme would visit from time to time. Later, as Wisdom Supreme had to manage affairs in both temples, he became too busy and could only visit once every ten days. As the years passed, visits became even less frequent—only once every three months alongside Wisdom Supreme.
Meanwhile, a few Little Monks from the Demon Subduing Institute were assigned to deliver food to Master Wulian in rotation.
The problem lay with those Little Monks. The Demon Subduing Institute was not like Pujiyuan; they were a group of righteous individuals. The monks there were taught to be somewhat vengeful against evil.
Those Little Monks came from the streets near the temple and had picked up quite a bit of street smarts. After hearing some extreme rumors about Wulian supposedly raising demons, they believed he was an irredeemable villain and treated him poorly.
They secretly moved Wulian to the worst quarters and didn't even give him a blanket during winter. Every three days, they would bring him spoiled food, and insults were common; if they got angry, they would kick him a few times. On the tenth of each month, they would drag Wulian back to his original quarters and threaten him into silence about the abuse.
Only low-ranking Little Monks in the Demon Subduing Institute knew about this matter; they covered for each other while thinking themselves as righteous heroes.
Fearing favoritism from Pujiyuan, the temple prohibited its monks from approaching Wulian. Moreover, Wulian himself remained silent and endured this torment for three whole years.
Only she occasionally helped him out. But she couldn't be with him every day.
Today, when she went to see him, she witnessed a Little Monk shoving him; Wulian's head struck against the stone wall, causing a lot of blood to flow.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner!"
Misha panicked; she didn't care whether the news was true or false—she had to see her master.
"Wulian won't allow it."
As soon as those words left her mouth, she saw that familiar scene again through the mist.
Misha smashed open the solid door of the secret chamber with a single punch.
High Monk Ju Yi rushed over, but everyone thought this was just another ordinary demon encounter. One familiar with him shouted, "Misha! Wake up and think about the books I gave you; follow them!"
A massive beastly roar interrupted his words. "My master is in trouble! You better not stop me!"
High Monk frowned. "That’s impossible. Wisdom Supreme just checked on him yesterday. Where did you get this news? Were you scared in a dream? You need to wake up quickly."
"I told you, don’t stop me!"
Misha unleashed her full power, toppling the surrounding High Monks and charging through the mist towards Thinking Cliff.
As it turned out, the fog was right; her master truly lay in a pool of blood, just regaining consciousness from his coma. Upon seeing the demon Misha, he thought he was mistaken due to longing until she embraced him. He momentarily dazed, then realized and sighed, "Why are you so impulsive again?"
The commotion caused by Misha attracted a large number of monks who rushed over.
Misha searched for someone and first spotted Wisdom Supreme. Gritting her teeth, she demanded, "Hand over those Little Monks you arranged!"
Seeing Wulian in Misha's arms, Wisdom Supreme could no longer focus on the demon. His voice trembled as he asked, "What happened to him?"
