Xiao Tao Rui shyly replied, "Lord Sang, you can just call me by my sister's name."
Grandma Liu, who adopted Xiao Tao Rui, held great respect for her as a Demon Catcher and always referred to her as "My Lady" to distinguish her from the Celestial Master or Spirit Master. However, she was unaware of her true rank and simply called her "My Lady."
It was only Grandma Liu who addressed her this way. In just a few months, all the demons in Jingjing City had come to refer to her similarly.
"Indeed, this little girl only listens to Grandma Liu," Sang Qingxiao remarked. "It seems Grandma Liu's condition has worsened. I've been taking care of her these past few days. The medicine you provided has run out, and I was hoping to get some more."
"Your Grandpa Teng has already prepared the medicine. There's no rush to take it. You've come a long way and must be hungry. Misha, bring over the leftover food."
As she spoke, she subtly winked at Misha.
Sang Qingxiao only asked Misha to bring more food, but Misha ended up bringing a large bucket filled with various mixed dishes that indeed looked like leftovers.
"Uh, I overestimated my Small Tavern today; I prepared too much and ended up with this much leftover. My food doesn't keep overnight, so please take it all with you."
Xiao Tao Rui hurriedly waved her hands in refusal. "I can't eat all of this."
"Then share it with the other Little Demons."
Sang Qingxiao cheerfully encouraged Xiao Tao Rui to eat until she was full before handing her the prepared medicinal herbs.
Seeing the pile of herbs, Xiao Tao Rui panicked again. "That's too much! I didn't bring much this time."
"It's fine; I'll keep track of it for you. You plan to come work at my Small Tavern later, right? You can pay me back slowly; there's no hurry."
After soothing her a bit more, she finally sent Xiao Tao Rui on her way.
Sang Qingxiao rummaged through the items in her backpack while Misha leaned in to help. To her surprise, one large bag contained chicken and duck feet, necks, and entrails.
"Did she really trade these for medicine?" Misha asked in confusion.
Sang Qingxiao chuckled as she recounted Xiao Tao Rui's story. "Xiao Tao Rui is a Peach Blossom Demon who encountered the Heavenly Mechanism in the Suburbs of the Capital and transformed into human form. She stumbled into Jingjing City and faced many hardships due to her outstanding appearance when she was still naive. Fortunately, she met Grandma Liu."
Grandma Liu was a Willow Tree Demon who had painstakingly cultivated into human form but suffered from conflicts with wealthy families and endured misfortunes that left her severely weakened after an accident with a flower boat. By the time she found Xiao Tao Rui, her days were numbered. Although she wanted other demons to care for Xiao Tao Rui, this Little Demon was grateful and very stubborn. To prolong Lao Liu's life, she worked short jobs during the day and collected Peach Blossom Dew at night to sell.
This Peach Blossom Dew could be safely condensed in small amounts, but in order to earn more money for medicine, the Little Demon overexerted herself and nearly reverted back to her original form.
It wasn't until she met me and Old Vine that things began to change; unfortunately, it was too late for Old Vine's medical skills to do more than alleviate Grandma Liu's suffering. We didn't mind the small amount of money for medicine; however, Xiao Tao Rui was a proud Little Demon who wanted to use the Peach Blossom Dew as payment. I stopped her and instead had her help me gather these assorted ingredients.
Counting the days, it would be just a few more until Lao Liu's return. Lao Liu had entrusted Xiao Tao Rui to me, and after the funeral, Xiao Tao Rui would also come to the Small Tavern. Sang Qingxiao chatted for a while longer before flipping through other packages.
