Misha sat in silence all night, unable to calm his mind despite reciting the calming mantra countless times, all because of the news brought by Qi Xiaomian.
Sang Qingxiao noticed his state early in the morning and hesitated several times before finally speaking up. Seeing the table filled with dough that kept getting watered down, he couldn't help but suggest, "Why don't you go out for a bit and clear your mind?"
Misha shook his head absentmindedly. "No."
"Then how about taking a break?"
"No."
"Can you at least stop ruining my flour?"
Misha finally realized it was already dawn, yet the dough was still not rolled out. "I guess I’ll just save it for later."
"What about this flour?"
After thinking for a moment, Misha decided against saving it. "It's cool today; let's make some dumpling soup instead." He planned to make a tomato and egg broth, which Buddha Treasure loved. There was still plenty of lamb soup left from before, so he could add some shredded meat to it without much trouble.
He also decided to prepare a fish soup since it cooks quickly. The fish sent by the demon clan a few days ago hadn't been eaten yet. The Mountain Spirits had sorted them by size and type, and he remembered there was a small box of tiny crucian carp, which were bony but fresh—perfect for soup.
"That's settled then! I want fish soup!"
Seeing Misha finally perk up a bit, Sang Qingxiao set up a stall outside. Today they only had dumpling soup available. The regular customers were polite enough to give it a try; the taste was certainly good, but as the weather warmed up, hot soup wasn't ideal for summer.
They closed the stall slightly later than usual. When Misha came out to help after tidying up the kitchen, he noticed something was off with Sang Qingxiao. "Why do you look dazed too?"
"It's Grandma Liu," Sang Qingxiao replied. "I thought she could hold on for a little longer."
"Did Xiao Tao Rui come to report her death?"
Sang Qingxiao shook his head. "I left a contract with them when I departed; once the host dies, the contract naturally dissolves. I can only imagine how Xiao Tao Rui is crying right now. Demons among humans have to be careful even in death; funerals often happen at night. We should go tonight."
But just after noon, Sang Qingxiao sensed Xiao Tao Rui's contract shatter into pieces.
Something felt wrong; two talismans formed and flew off in different directions.
"Old Vine, check on Grandma Liu's side while I look for Tao Rui."
Misha sensed that something was wrong. After instructing Buddha Treasure not to run off, she hurried after Sang Qingxiao, chasing her from the east of the city to the north. There, she saw Sang Qingxiao kick open the door of a courtyard.
Inside the house, several young servants tried to block her way, but they were no match for her. With a clear target in mind, Sang Qingxiao rushed straight toward the Rear Courtyard and quickly discovered Xiao Tao Rui in the woodshed.
Xiao Tao Rui's condition was dire, to say the least.
Sang Qingxiao took one look and nearly burst into tears. She was barely clothed, covered in wounds, and her face was so swollen that it was hard to recognize her. The injuries were particularly severe in her lower regions.
Sang Qingxiao rushed over and embraced her, reaching into her memories to understand what had happened. However, her actions inevitably brushed against Xiao Tao Rui's wounds, causing her to awaken in pain. Her swollen eyes opened just a crack.
