The two roasted ducks had crispy skin and tender meat, so delicious that they could be enjoyed on their own. However, eating too much could become overwhelming, which is why I prepared a pack of Plum Sauce and a pack of Spicy Powder to balance the richness.
These two jars contained Lotus Root Powder, made from hundreds of pounds of Lotus Root yielding only this little bit. Inside were granules of Sunflower Seeds, Walnut Crumbs, Almond Crumbs, Dried Sweet Potato, and Raisins. When eating, mix it with cool boiled water until there are no lumps, then pour in hot water and stir a few times. It would turn into a slightly purple paste that was ready to eat.
These were the new desserts for today. Besides the Jujube Walnut Cream you just had, there was also Ginger Milk Curd. There were some snacks as well, mostly pastries, with reduced sugar and increased meat content.
After the guests left, Old Vine approached.
"The royal lineage is indeed your Jing Wang family's enemy. You are quite generous, giving away everything."
"It was his brother, Chongjing Emperor, who killed the Sang Family, not him. By the time the Sang Family fell, he had already been exiled to the outskirts by Chongjing Emperor."
"After becoming Emperor of the Great Jing Dynasty, he worked diligently every day to restore the declining state of the Great Jing Dynasty. Just look at this peaceful and harmonious Jingjing City; Xuande Emperor is a virtuous and capable Monarch."
"But your families' conflict—I'm only responsible for bringing the Sang Family back to Jingjing City; the rest has nothing to do with me."
Li Cu was remarkably quick; by the second day after the court's decree, it could leisurely stroll around the residence. While wandering in the backyard, I saw Sang Qingxiao sitting in a row with two little ones, chattering away.
"Sweet and spicy."
"With tomato sauce."
"Honey garlic sauce."
"What are you all doing?" Li Cu raised its foot to take on human form and sat down alongside them.
"Fried chicken! Fried chicken!" The two little ones drooled as they pointed at the fragrant fried chicken in the pot while introducing it to Li Cu.
Sang Qingxiao added, "There are many flavors of fried chicken. We are discussing what flavor to make for the next batch."
Li Cu followed up with a question, "What other flavors are there?"
There are plenty of Spicy, Milk Salt, Cumin, and Sweet Plum options. If you think the Braised Pork's sauce is good, you can dip it in that too. Anyway, we don't have many rules here; eat however you like.
"Oh, then I'll have the Spicy one."
The yard erupted into a lively chatter, with Li Cu joining in happily.
But when the dish was served, Misha unexpectedly sprinkled a heap of Salt and Pepper on it.
"I love Salt and Pepper! Eat it or not!"
Clearly annoyed by a few childish little ones at home, Misha snapped a bit but ended up making everyone laugh.
Misha soon joined in the laughter as well.
Li Cu instantly fell in love with this atmosphere—a vibe that had never existed in the Military. It was relaxed, equal, and casual, making it easy for anyone to blend in without a hint of barrier.
Having only eaten raw meat before, Li Cu had never realized how enjoyable cooked meat could be.
A few plates of fried chicken and several bottles of wine left Li Cu's belly round and full. He rubbed his stomach and sighed in contentment.
"Eat more if you like; there's no need to be polite. The Duanwu Festival is coming up soon. If you still have some energy left, how about I teach you how to make Zongzi?"
