In reality, I hardly needed them to teach me; all the movements seemed the same to me. I, like it, was a demon, able to communicate without observation.
"Communicate?" Sang Qingxiao raised an eyebrow at him. "You can communicate just because of Demonic Nature? Not necessarily. I suspect you have secretly made a pact with it."
"Nothing escapes your notice," Qi Xiaomian said as he sat beside Sang Qingxiao. "Seeing you with so many demons makes me envious. The demon race is already scarce; it's rare to encounter one, especially one so naive and ignorant—perfect for manipulation."
Sang Qingxiao took Xiao Ye into his hands, carefully examining it. Its foundation wasn't very good.
"That's fine; it's still better than my Half-Demon foundation. I have methods to train it."
Sang Qingxiao recalled how strict he had been with Yin Can and advised, "It's still young and weak; we must take it slow and not rush things."
"I know," came the reply.
"Let's hope for the best," Sang Qingxiao said as he summoned Yin Can and Misha—one to guard against demons and the other to deal with ghosts.
With Xiao Ye in tow, they needed only to find traces of that thing. If they encountered danger, they should return quickly.
After some thought, Sang Qingxiao decided to include Old Vine as well. Old Vine was knowledgeable; just a glance might allow him to assess that thing's strength. In this group, they would heed Old Vine's words—if he said retreat, then retreat they would.
His gaze caught Yin Can's skeptical expression. He gave him a light smack on the forehead. "Especially you—if you don't behave and act impulsively, I have methods to deal with you."
Yin Can reluctantly grunted in acknowledgment.
Once the three left, Qi Xiaomian remarked, "It's just like when we let that kid out."
Sang Qingxiao didn't mind; if he acted impulsively, it wouldn't cause much trouble. It would even give him an excuse to discipline him. If he behaved, it would be an unexpected delight.
A day passed without any sign of their return.
The Zhang Family's cleanup was nearing completion when Zhang Linglong came over to say goodbye. Sang Qingxiao asked her to wait another day, and she didn't question why.
Instead, she expressed concern about the women in the building. "Has that house been dealt with?"
Sang Qingxiao nodded. "Sort of."
"Those men will never show up again in their lives, right?"
"They won't."
"You won't say anything about what happened to the women in that building, will you?"
Zhang Linglong began to chatter as I was about to leave, constantly worrying about whether they would eat well and have a good place to stay. I had already sent some Cotton Clothes and food, and I planned to send people to check on them from time to time in the future.
"Will their numbers increase?" I wondered aloud. "Should I prepare more?"
Sang Qingxiao ignored her rambling and didn’t interrupt her. Instead, she continued to rock in the rocking chair as darkness fell around them.
After a while, she glanced at the sky and suddenly spoke up, saying that it was time.
As soon as her words fell, a thunderclap split the sky, striking towards Meizhou City.
When the thunder hit the ground, it was a tremendous force that shook the earth for a long time, waking up everyone in the city.
Zhang Linglong was protected by Sang Qingxiao, so she wasn’t too frightened, but she was stunned for a moment. When she regained her senses and looked towards where the lightning had struck, she exclaimed, "Oh no! It's in the direction of Chastity Tower!"
