"Have you caught up? Did you see the mastermind?" Sang Qingxiao looked at them in confusion. Could it be that the opponent was too strong, and they returned looking so disheveled because they couldn't compete?
Yin Can replied reluctantly, "What do you mean we couldn't compete? We didn't even encounter it! We followed that thing all the way to a desolate area, and this mess we're in is all because of that sandstorm."
Later, Old Vine seemed to sense something and absolutely refused to let me take action. Together with Misha, they dragged me back, saying something about a Demon King.
Honestly, what does it matter what it is? A single blast of Great Fire would take care of it, and with the sand to retain heat, we could cook it thoroughly!
Sang Qingxiao smiled as she ruffled Yin Can's hair. The little master was so adorably conflicted—wanting affection while trying to maintain a proud demeanor.
She praised him, "If you really set your mind to it, Misha might not be able to keep up with your fire-starting speed. It would take some effort for them to drag you back. Today, no matter what you say, your actions have been in line with theirs. Good job remembering my advice; you've really grown."
Yin Can's face turned red from the compliment. "Hmph! I don't need your praise! I only came back because that sandstorm was relentless!"
Sang Qingxiao laughed at his stubbornness, letting him enjoy his little victory before turning to Old Vine. "Is it troublesome?"
Old Vine scoffed, "It's a big thing; I can't identify what it is for now. The smell is too overwhelming; I don't want to touch it."
Yin Can asked curiously, "Is there a smell? I didn't notice anything."
Misha shook his head in agreement with Sang Qingxiao.
Old Vine explained, "A smell means it's foul? What I mean is that the odor is unpleasant yet somewhat familiar. Because of that familiarity, I instinctively want to avoid it."
As he spoke, he looked around again. "Where's Qi Xiaomian? Having a Half-Demon body is one thing; without experience, how can one be strong? Just right, there's someone with decent strength who can practice against him."
"You really know how to push things," Sang Qingxiao chided. "A Men's Wedding Dress Case has already claimed quite a few lives. Compared to the women in the building, it's not on the list; it's likely a copycat crime. Qi Xiaomian is currently working through various channels to have the case re-examined one by one."
"Sang Qingxiao," she continued, "you have a kinder heart than him; you wouldn't have suggested such troublesome matters, would you?"
"It's none of my business; he decided for himself. I said at the time that there were too many cases and too much history involved—it would be a thankless task and too troublesome. But he said it was just a matter of convenience and if we applied some pressure—if nothing comes of it, then so be it."
"Why has he suddenly become so enthusiastic?"
Sang Qingxiao was puzzled as well. "In any case, it's a good thing and doesn't affect us; let him be."
Old Vine pondered, "Xiao Ye has already been contracted by him; that Silly Beast has strong abilities and is easy to control. Qi Xiaomian will definitely be tempted—are we just going to let this Half-Demon roam around contracting demons?"
Sang Qingxiao had already considered this issue and had her own plans. Demons can be both good and bad; like our Yin Can and Xiao Ye—aren't they good demons? I still stand by my words: only kill bad demons, bad people, and bad monsters.
However, demons are unpredictable and harder to control than monsters. Even if they are good demons, if they lose control one day, it could become a huge problem. If Qi Xiaomian is willing to take them in, that would indeed be a great help.
He can control demons while I can restrain him; all the effort will fall on him. In this way, I only need to focus on him—how convenient!
Old Vine scoffed, "I'm just afraid that the more he interacts with demons, the more his Demonic Nature will awaken. You can suppress him now, but what about in the future? Will you still be able to?"
"What should I do then? I can't just kill every demon I encounter, nor can I allow a demon to exist freely in this world. Besides, as his power grows, so does mine. With my ability to counter him and my constant vigilance, the likelihood of your concerns coming to pass is quite low."
