Shi Yun felt helpless as he looked at Great-Grandson's swollen face. When he opened his mouth to speak again, he decided to label the incident as a case of the majority bullying the minority, a matter of self-defense. Even if he retaliated fiercely, it would not be wrong.
Lady Lian chimed in from the side, adding to the gravity of the situation. Everything was developing in accordance with what Grand Scholar had hoped for, yet they still couldn't clear out those students. There were too many of them, and they were connected to many others. They only received a major reprimand and a warning that any further offenses would lead to expulsion. This meeting was officially concluded.
Shi Yun took the troublesome Great-Grandson home, intending to privately teach him a lesson. However, when he heard the boy cry out in pain, Shi Yun's heart softened once more. He sent a message to the palace, inviting the imperial physician into his residence.
It was just superficial injuries, and with the protective talisman in place, the physician assured him there was no harm done. Still, Shi Yun couldn't help but ask numerous questions out of concern.
The next day, Shi Yun was furious as stories of his precious Great-Grandson verbally battling scholars spread throughout Jingjing City in an exaggerated manner. While having breakfast, he learned about this through the butler and glanced at Wang Kuan, who was enjoying his meal with great delight. He sighed and asked, "Did you do this?"
The swollen face didn't seem to affect Wang Kuan's appetite; he chewed happily without looking up and replied, "How did you guess it was me?"
Cui Lan wouldn’t pass on your words; she certainly doesn’t want you to get along with me.
Wang Kuan grinned mischievously and said, "What do you think? Is she smashing things in her room right now?"
Shi Yun placed a bun on his plate and advised him, "You can expect much from her; just don’t focus too much attention on her; it’s not worth it."
Not yet done with their conversation, Wang Kuan began discussing his plans. "You’ve placed someone beside her, haven’t you? The watch is loose; the fish will soon bite."
"Also, when are you free? Transfer all your properties under my name; let’s make it official at Government—make it grand so everyone knows."
"Hey, you little rascal! I’m not dead yet, and you’re already eyeing my properties."
"It’ll all be mine sooner or later; giving it to me now adds another layer of usefulness. Don’t worry; I’ll take care of your retirement. Even if you’re an unfilial son, Lord and Great-Grandmother hope I’ll be filial."
"If you’re worried, we can go through the motions; just don’t let anyone catch on."
Wang Kuan’s requests were taken care of by Shi Yun that afternoon, and indeed as he requested, the news spread throughout Jingjing City.
As soon as Cui Lan caught wind of this news, she stormed over angrily and bombarded him with questions.
Shi Yun remained calm and replied nonchalantly, "I only have this one descendant; if I don’t give it to him, who else would I give it to?"
"Have you forgotten about our child?"
Shi Yun turned slightly away to hide the pain in his eyes. "I haven’t forgotten, but he is no longer here."
"Who says he—" Cui Lan almost blurted out.
Suddenly, Old Maid shouted, "Madam!"
Interrupting her words, Old Maid pinched her again. Cui Lan finally regained some clarity through the pain. "I don't care, even if it means donating to the court, I won't allow you to leave anything for that little brat!"
"My property, Cui Lan, what right do you have to oppose me?"
Cui Lan went mad. "This is all your fault! You killed my child! I've already given you enough face by tolerating your grandson bouncing around in front of me. Don't even think about giving him everything that belongs to Yang'er!"
