Some brothers with keen ears had already heard the footsteps inside. This wasn't right; this wasn't right at all. As Lei Zong'ao observed the scene in the tomb chamber, he muttered to himself. It was merely an escape route from the tomb; how could it have been excavated to such an extent? It had expanded by thousands of times!
With such significant changes to the underground structure, it would undoubtedly affect the stability of the Royal Tomb above. This was serious; they needed to fill it back up quickly! While Lei Zong'ao anxiously calculated the load-bearing capacity, a few remaining individuals swiftly searched through the entire underground space. They found a cage layered with filth from crows and rats, stacked ten layers high.
After circling around, they discovered a small door in a hidden corner. When they pried it open, they saw a small figure inside, chained by its feet and facing a wall. On that wall was an incomprehensible array of gears, and the child was focused on feeling around them.
Everyone realized who he was and hurriedly called for Lei Zong'ao to confirm. Upon seeing just the child's back, Lei Zong'ao gasped in surprise. "Congcong! Ah Cong! How did you end up here? Your grandfather has been looking for you everywhere!" He urged, "Come on now, respond to me! Grandpa Lei is coming to save you!"
Lei Zong'ao was the first to squeeze through the small door and rushed toward the child, pulling him into a tight embrace. The child was startled at first and struggled a bit but relaxed upon recognizing him. He then asked, "Where's Grandpa?"
"Your grandfather... he misses you so much that he's fallen ill and can't get out of bed," Lei Zong'ao explained gently. "He sent me to find you. Come on now; Grandpa Lei will take you back to see him one last time."
Feeling emotional, tears welled up in Lei Zong'ao's eyes as he checked over every part of the child’s body to ensure he wasn't hurt or too thin. Relieved, he tried to coax him away from this place. But the child stubbornly refused to leave, slapping at Lei Zong'ao's hands while urgently calling for his grandfather.
"I'm taking you out to see him," Lei Zong'ao reassured him.
The child continued to resist but pointed at the wall while shouting for his grandfather. Remembering their past interactions together, Lei Zong'ao looked at the complex mechanisms on the wall and asked, "Congcong, did you do all this?"
Liu Cong beamed with pride and exclaimed, "Look, Grandpa! Look at what I made!"
Once again feeling emotional, Lei Zong'ao explained to Qi Shuo and others that this grandfather-grandson pair had always enjoyed competing against each other in skills. Liu Cong wanted Liu to come see this because he loved being praised by Liu. Unfortunately...
Unfortunately, Liu was no longer around.
