Cai Zhuo maintained his kneeling position, careful not to move too much. Despite several attempts to dodge, he could not evade Shi Yun's hand. "Chancellor, please, there's no need for you to take action. I am but a lowly person."
"We all know each other well, so Cai Gonggong, do not belittle yourself. Your importance to the Great Jing Dynasty is no less than mine."
Cai Zhuo hurriedly waved his hand. "Master Xiang, you jest. How could I possibly compare myself to you?"
Shi Yun was not accustomed to such flattery and sighed. "While serving His Majesty, do remember to take care of your own health. You have many old injuries and responsibilities weighing on you. If the palace doctors are unavailable, I will request treatment for you."
"It's nothing, it's nothing. Chancellor, you're here for the Third Prince's matter, correct?"
"Yes, I have brought the evidence."
"Chancellor, please wait a moment. Your Majesty still needs some time."
"Alright, I will wait with you."
"How is the young master's injury? Is it better?"
Cai Gonggong could not be deceived; he knew that if the young master continued to act recklessly, not only would he hurt himself, but he could also endanger others. Once he recovered from his injuries, a beating would be unavoidable.
Cai Zhuo carefully spoke up. "Your Majesty should take a step back. I wonder if Chancellor could also make a concession in this matter?"
Shi Yun frowned. "What does Cai Gonggong mean?"
"In recent months, there have been many unfavorable rumors about the royal family among the common people, severely damaging the royal family's prestige. If news about the Third Prince were to leak out again, it could destabilize the Great Jing Dynasty and hinder public unity while providing an excuse for hidden forces to rise."
"The Third Prince is indeed foolish, but stability in the Court is even more crucial. Wouldn't you agree?"
Cai nodded in agreement. "Then what do you think I should concede?"
Cai Zhuo smiled and replied, "That is something for you and His Majesty to discuss. I am merely a servant and cannot presume to comment on Court matters; offering a few reminders would be overstepping my bounds."
Cai Zhuo refrained from discussing court affairs further and instead chatted with Shi Yun about the weather, mentioning the arrival of spring and the beauty of blooming flowers and singing birds.
Unbeknownst to them, they had been kneeling for over two hours now. Their mental states began to differ; Cai Zhuo appeared calm while Shi Yun occasionally needed to shift slightly.
Cai Zhuo possessed Inner Strength and could hear sounds from within the Inner Palace. He noticed that His Majesty had changed from lying down to pacing back and forth before finally sitting at the table to write. He occasionally tossed aside crumpled paper; although the pile grew larger, the intervals between discarding them lengthened.
Cai Zhuo understood that His Majesty was coming to a decision.
After about half an hour had passed, Xuande Emperor opened the door himself and said irritably to Shi Yun, "Can’t you even wait a day? Must we rush to condemn the Third Prince so quickly?"
"I merely brought in relevant evidence," Shi Yun replied. "I thought Your Majesty cared for the princes and would want to see it; I was just fulfilling my duties as a Minister."
"I can guess what that evidence contains; I have no desire to see it!"
"Then, my lord, I can read it to you."
"Shi Yun, at your service."
With a sigh, the Xuan De Emperor spoke, his words laced with a hint of vulnerability. "I do not wish for the elderly to mourn the young."
Shi Yun felt that he had deliberately glanced at Cai Zhuo. Perhaps he could take a small step for the sake of national stability.
The Xuan De Emperor raised an eyebrow and also looked at Cai Zhuo. "Everyone, please rise."
