Qi Xiaomian stood in one place, waiting for news from the Coroner. However, due to the deceased's noble status, the Coroners were hesitant and took a long time to reach a conclusion. Growing impatient, Qi Xiaomian decided to step into the draped area.
At that moment, the body lay exposed on several examination tables pushed together, pale and devoid of any visible wounds. Qi Xiaomian scanned the scene, wondering how the person had died. Was there any conclusion yet? No one answered.
Qi Xiaomian threatened them, stating that if this case remained unsolved, none of them would have it easy. Many people glanced up at Qi Xiaomian but quickly lowered their heads in fear; some even pretended to be dead.
However, one person showed no fear at all. His gaze remained fixed on the corpse throughout. "I remember you," Qi Xiaomian said as he approached. "Xing Wu, right? We met when Yan Min was wrongfully imprisoned. After he was exonerated, he helped you out of jail, and once he became the Minister of Justice, you became his most trusted Coroner."
"They say you have remarkable skills. You examined Shi Dingyang's body before, and your findings were quite good."
Xing Wu replied that he hadn't been involved in examining that body; it was attributed to an Evil Spirit's curse and then left unresolved.
"Regarding this case," Xing Wu said quickly, "there's no need for details. The less I know, the safer I am."
"What conclusion do you have about this body?" Qi Xiaomian pressed.
"I can't provide a final conclusion without performing an autopsy; I can only make surface observations."
"What have you observed so far?"
Xing Wu moved closer to the body while others stepped back significantly. Ignoring their retreat, he focused entirely on the corpse. He pressed on the abdomen, noting its unusual softness—a softness that was not a good sign.
"I suspect there is internal decay in his abdominal cavity. The blood he vomited appears dark and carries a foul odor, indicating that this decay has been ongoing for some time."
Qi Xiaomian asked about a comment made by those around him—that he had previously mentioned issues with his own health but had been eating and drinking normally every day.
"If my findings differ from what others have said," Xing Wu speculated, "it could mean his pain sensation was numbed. As for how that happened, further examination is necessary."
"Further examination? An autopsy?" Qi Xiaomian inquired.
Xing Wu nodded. "It's very necessary. In fact, determining the cause of death shouldn't be too difficult; most questions should become clear after an autopsy."
The Dayu Dynasty officials remained confused by this exchange.
"I have presented my plan; the rest is up to you to act," Xing Wu said, stepping back and choosing not to say anything further. Instead, he took out a medical case and began reading it as if no one else were around.
What an interesting person.
Qi Xiaomian instructed the coroners to take another look, insisting that each of them must provide at least one piece of information. If they failed to do so, severe punishment awaited them.
