Ma Tao hesitated for a moment but ultimately agreed.
"I can give you money, but Shan Shan needs to have an abortion, and you must promise not to publicize this matter."
Suddenly, Shan Shan spoke up, "No way! I want you to marry me!" She rushed forward and grabbed Ma Tao's hand. "You said you would marry me!"

Ma Tao, overwhelmed by the noise, pushed her away. "Get lost!"

Shan Shan had a miscarriage. Her parents decided to sue Ma Tao. They hired a lawyer to accuse him of rape. Ma Tao was expected to cover Shan Shan's medical expenses and pay a compensation of five hundred thousand. The reason was that Shan Shan would never be able to have children again, and her reputation was damaged, making it difficult for her to marry in the future.
Ma Tao rejected the compensation demands from Shan Shan's parents. "I was willing to give two hundred thousand because she could bear me a son. Now that the son is gone, why should I pay you five hundred thousand?"
Shan Shan's parents brought relatives and friends to protest outside his company, holding banners and causing a scene.

"Yes, I am that ruthless. What are you going to do about it?" I raised an eyebrow.
Ma Tao raised his hand as if to hit me, but I held his gaze without flinching. In the end, he lowered his hand.
"Alright, I'll sign."
His hand trembled as he took the pen.
With each stroke, Ma Tao signed his name on the divorce agreement. He left with half of the company shares and a portion of our joint assets. I had frozen his credit card, so he could only take what little he had left. He was embroiled in a lawsuit with Shan Shan's family and only managed to give them a hundred thousand. Shan Shan, his mistress, was not protected by law; getting a hundred thousand was already quite fortunate for her.
Ma Tao was overwhelmed, busy dealing with the aftermath. Meanwhile, Shan Shan lay in the hospital while her parents came to the company every day demanding money and causing a scene.
Ma Tao was still busy repaying loans, overwhelmed and unable to manage everything at once. Ma Tao didn’t care about me at all. He just wanted to quickly get rid of Shan Shan and her family. After Shan Shan was discharged from the hospital, Ma Tao completely ignored her. She came to his place several times causing a scene, but the security guards chased her away. Shan Shan's parents also came looking for trouble with Ma Tao. He gave them fifty thousand as a final settlement for the matter.
No one knew about my divorce from Ma Tao. After the divorce, I felt completely relieved. I continued to run my company, and my life and career began to fall into place. The company’s performance had been steadily increasing over the past six months. Our old clients kept renewing their contracts, and new clients kept coming in. With the company on track, I could finally take a breather.
For the past six months, Ma Tao hadn’t contacted me. He quit his job and spent his days trading stocks. I heard he invested all his money and even borrowed a lot through online loans and credit cards. At first, he made some money, but in his excitement, he invested everything again. Unable to repay the loans and credit card debts, he kept pouring more money into it until he lost every last cent.
Friends advised him to stop, but he wouldn’t listen. He came to me asking for money, but I ignored him. This was the path he chose; it had nothing to do with me. If you make a wrong turn, you should face the consequences. After being down for a while, Ma Tao eventually seemed to have come to some realization and started looking for a job again.
He had gone for interviews at several companies, but all ended in failure. Desperate, he sought help from friends, only to be scolded harshly. With nowhere else to turn, Ma Tao came to me again. He knelt before me, crying like a child.
“Wife, I have nothing left. You’re all I have. Please forgive me,” he pleaded.
Ma Tao truly had nothing left. He was utterly destitute.

Ma Tao seemed mentally unstable. “I won’t leave, Shuang'er. I’m your husband! Can you bear to see me sleeping on the streets?”
Suddenly, he laughed. “Wife, our daughter is so adorable. Don’t you think you would be heartbroken if something happened to her?”
Ma Tao stood up and walked toward the room. My expression changed drastically.
“Ma Tao, what are you going to do?” I blocked the doorway to prevent him from entering.
He was much stronger than I was; I knew I couldn’t stop him. As he pushed against the door, ready to break through, I had no choice but to agree to give him some money.
“Ma Tao, I’ll give you some money. Just take it and leave me alone,” I said, pulling out a card.
He took the card and warned me, “You must not tell anyone about this. If you do, I will kill our daughter.”
With that, Ma Tao left. I quickly took Tang Tang to a friend’s house and then called the police.
I provided recorded evidence of Ma Tao's extortion and threats. Ma Tao was forced to repay the money and was taken to a detention center. After he was released, he did not come back to trouble me again.
A year later, Zhou Shanshan's parents found Ma Tao. Zhou Shanshan had been diagnosed with infertility, and with her reputation ruined, no one wanted her. Her parents hoped that Ma Tao could become their son-in-law. Ma Tao agreed.
He went with Zhou Shanshan's parents to their village. At first, Ma Tao found it quite novel, but over time he grew tired of it. He refused to work and spent his days lying in bed while Shan Shan took care of him. Zhou Shanshan's parents could no longer tolerate this and kicked Ma Tao out.
Before leaving, Ma Tao stole a sum of money from Zhou Shanshan's parents. He took the money to gamble and lost it all. The debt collectors came after him and beat him up, sending him to the hospital. Zhou Shanshan's parents accused him of theft, and Ma Tao was sentenced to three years in prison.
After separating from Ma Tao, Zhou Shanshan married a man who was over ten years older than her and had been married before. This man had a bad temper and often abused Shan Shan. Every day, Zhou Shanshan would end up with bruises and injuries.
Despite this, Zhou Shanshan endured it all. She was older now and, having been abandoned once, felt she could only marry a man with poor conditions.
I was busy with work at the company while also taking care of my daughter. I poured all my thoughts into Tang Tang. I wanted to give her a better life and a better education. I aimed to make up for the fatherly love she lacked. I believe our future will be brighter.
