Madam Chen lifted her head and looked at her, a glint of cunning flashing in her eyes. “Isn’t that girl Du Lai'er running a restaurant and a Fragrance Shop? We can target her business.”
Chen Luoyun’s eyes brightened, and she quickly asked, “You mean…”
“Spread rumors to tarnish the quality of her restaurant and her perfumes,” Madam Chen said coldly. “Let her be disgraced and go bankrupt!”
Upon hearing this, Chen Luoyun’s expression changed slightly, hesitating, “Isn’t that… a bit too much?”
“Too much?” Madam Chen's tone turned slightly worried. “But what if your father finds out…”
“Don’t worry,” Madam Chen sneered. “I will arrange everything so that your father won’t know.” She paused before continuing, “We’ll first spread rumors that her restaurant uses unclean ingredients and that her perfumes are made from inferior materials to ruin her reputation.”
With a cold laugh, she added, “She took your things and ruined your happiness; isn’t that excessive?”
Chen Luoyun fell silent. She knew Madam Chen was right; in this household, she had already lost too much and couldn’t afford to lose more.
Nodding slightly, a hint of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes. “And then…”
“Then we find a few accomplices to cause trouble at her shop, ideally making her lose a significant amount of money,” Madam Chen interjected. “This way, no matter how capable she is, she won’t be able to recover.”
“Mother, you’re truly brilliant!” Chen Luoyun looked at Madam Chen with admiration.
Madam Chen smiled with satisfaction, a trace of pride in her eyes.
A few days later, rumors began to circulate in the city about my restaurant and Fragrance Shop.
“Du Lai'er’s restaurant uses rotten ingredients; many people have gotten sick!” In the tea house, several patrons were whispering.
“And her Fragrance Shop uses inferior spices; using them causes rashes on the face!” another customer added.
“Is that true? That sounds terrifying!”
Such discussions spread like wildfire across the city, impacting the business of both the restaurant and Fragrance Shop as customer numbers noticeably dwindled.
I sat calmly in the private room of the restaurant, listening to the murmurs outside. Cui'Er stood beside me, looking worried. “Miss, what should we do now?”
The comments floated by like snowflakes, but I had anticipated this.

I set down my teacup and let out a cold smile. “It seems Madam Chen and Chen Luoyun are truly relentless.”
Cui'Er said, “Miss, the rumors outside are rampant; they’re greatly affecting our business. Should we…”
I raised my hand to interrupt him, my gaze resolute. "Don't worry, I have my own ways." Turning to look out the window, I observed the bustling street below, where pedestrians hurried by and vendors shouted their wares. Taking a deep breath, I already had a plan forming in my mind.
In the following days, I took no action, allowing the rumors to continue to fester. Mrs. Chen and Chen Luoyun saw my lack of response as a sign of success for their scheme, secretly pleased with themselves. However, what they didn't know was that I was brewing a much larger plan.
I set down my teacup, a slight smile playing on my lips. "Don't worry, everything is under my control."
At that moment, Bullet Screen appeared: "The young lady is formidable!"
"I knew she was prepared!"
"Can't wait for the slap in the face!"
I stood up and walked to the window, watching the throng below. My eyes discreetly gathered evidence against those spreading the rumors, and I contacted several reputable doctors to prepare for a public "experiment."
A few days later, I set up a high platform in front of the tavern and invited many townsfolk to come and watch. Mrs. Chen and Chen Luoyun arrived at the scene with puzzled expressions.
I turned to Cui'Er and instructed, "Go get our newly developed 'Shen Xian Zui' and 'Ning Zhi Lu.'"
Cui'Er paused for a moment before quickly realizing what I meant and hurried off to fetch the wine and fragrant powder.
I picked up the "Shen Xian Zui," gently swirling it in the glass; the amber liquid spun gracefully, releasing a rich aroma. "Shen Xian Zui is smooth on the palate with a long-lasting aftertaste, and most importantly, it can neutralize all poisons."
Next, I held up "Ning Zhi Lu," opening the lid to reveal a refreshing floral scent that wafted through the air. "Ning Zhi Lu not only nourishes the skin but also removes scars, leaving it fairer and more delicate."
Standing on the platform before everyone, I spoke clearly and powerfully: "Dear villagers, you have all heard the recent rumors about my tavern and Fragrance Shop. Today, I have invited several esteemed doctors to examine my food and fragrance powders in front of you all to prove our innocence!"
As soon as I finished speaking, murmurs erupted from the crowd. Mrs. Chen and Chen Luoyun's faces turned pale.
Before everyone's eyes, the doctors meticulously examined the food and fragrance powders. Watching them assess what was in my hands, a confident smile spread across my face.
Eventually, they concluded that both the food was fresh and hygienic and that the quality of the fragrance powder was excellent—there were no issues whatsoever.
Looking at the crowd below with a confident smile on my face, I declared, "Facts speak louder than words; I believe your eyes are sharp!"
Thunderous applause erupted from below as people condemned those who had spread rumors. For days, I played the victim while promoting the benefits of "Shen Xian Zui" and "Ning Zhi Lu," selling them at extremely low prices to attract large crowds of customers.
The business of the tavern and the Fragrance Shop not only remained unaffected but instead thrived even more.
Qiao Zhi'an stood across from the tavern, observing the bustling scene with a slight furrow in his brow. He hadn't anticipated that I could turn the situation around so swiftly. It seemed I was more clever and intriguing than he had imagined. He turned to leave, a hint of barely noticeable interest flickering in his eyes.
