Ji Yang spoke softly, lowering his head to take a look. He noticed that the largest wound on his arm had indeed shrunk a bit, and there was a slight itchiness, a sign that the wound was healing.
He couldn't believe it. He applied some more ointment and observed closely, discovering that the shallower wound had revealed pink new flesh underneath, almost healed.
He jumped up in surprise.
What kind of miraculous medicine is this? It can't possibly be outrageously expensive; I can't afford it.
Lu Mingyuan stepped forward, grabbing him by the collar, baring his teeth in a mock threat. "You’ve received the medicine; do you still dare to renege on your debt?"
"Exactly! We all saw it," came the chorus of agreement.
Ji Yang lowered his head, feeling defeated. "Alright, alright, I know. I'm not that kind of person."
"Brother Qi, don’t worry; I will definitely repay for the medicine. If necessary, I can sell some of my treasured works."
As he spoke, his eyes turned red with reluctance.
Qi Xiao found it amusing. "It’s not that expensive; these two bottles of medicine are worth at most three medium-grade spirit stones."
"So cheap? Brother Qi, can I buy a little bit?" Ji Yang asked eagerly.
"Me too!"
Lu Mingyuan rubbed his hands together and squeezed through the crowd, whispering, "Actually, I’m interested in buying as well."
Qi Xiao was both amused and exasperated. The spirit liquid was fine, but making the ointment was complicated; he only had two bottles prepared and feared it wouldn’t meet their demands.
"No problem! When you go, Brother Qi, you can take your time to refine more," someone suggested.
The other disciples were not unreasonable; with Qi Xiao's medicine being so effective and reasonably priced, they felt lucky just to be able to buy it and didn’t dare to ask for more.
The remaining few nodded in agreement.
They expressed that as long as Qi Xiao could refine the medicine, they would wait as long as needed. Even if the price were a bit high, it wouldn’t matter; they could even provide their own materials.
They showered him with compliments as if afraid he might run away.
Qi Xiao could only smile helplessly and assured them, "Don’t worry; I will fulfill my promise to you."
Previously, he had only refined medicine at Qingjing Peak, selling it himself without understanding the outside world.
With a genius like Lan Wanyu ahead of him, no matter how well he performed, he could only be considered average.
It was only now that Qi Xiao belatedly realized that he seemed to have made some small achievements in the field of alchemy.
Qi Xiao couldn't help but feel a bit emotional.
In truth, compared to the other talented senior sisters, he didn't seem so useless after all.
"Senior Brother Qi, you're not even practicing swordsmanship. How could you refine such excellent medicine?"
"Yeah, I think some of the alchemy hall's seniors can't compare to you!"
Along the way, these disciples gathered around Qi Xiao, filled with curiosity, chattering away as if they were rallying around him.
When the stone locusts attacked, Qi Xiao was the first to notice and also the first to explain their characteristics, stabilizing the situation. Afterwards, he took out healing medicine to treat the injured.
If Qi Xiao hadn't been there to handle it, their group would have certainly suffered considerable losses.
After this incident, everyone couldn't help but feel admiration for Qi Xiao.
As fellow foundation-building disciples, Qi Xiao was more knowledgeable and experienced than them. Moreover, he actively helped others, completely unlike the rumored person who would harm his own sect members.
Qi Xiao smiled and answered their questions one by one.
Over the years, he had endured cold stares and unfair treatment, watching helplessly as Ye Xiuyuan took everything from him. He no longer hoped to change his image.
But now it seemed that perhaps things weren't as bad as he had imagined; at least these fellow disciples from other peaks were much kinder than his senior sisters.
After an hour, Lu Mingyuan suggested they sit down and take a break.
One disciple went to scout the surroundings while another set up defensive formations nearby. A third disciple was pasting talismans around to isolate their aura.
Ji Yang was injured and had no mission but to stay on the ground; however, he quietly followed Qi Xiao's side.
Qi Xiao was observing the traces around them. The stone locusts were excellent at finding stones; their previous encounters with them indicated that there must be a mine nearby, possibly of good quality.
He traced his fingers over the numerous gnaw marks on the tree bark, frowning in thought when he suddenly noticed Ji Yang had quietly approached him from behind, causing him to raise an eyebrow in alertness.
"Junior Brother Ji, what is it?"
Ji Yang looked a bit awkward. "Earlier, I didn't speak to you very nicely; please don't take it to heart."
Qi Xiao responded with an "Oh," instantly understanding.
"Junior Brother Ji, I didn't take it to heart; you shouldn't worry about it."
When Ji Yang saw his calm expression, he immediately grew a bit anxious. "I'm not someone who doesn't know what's good for me. Don't worry, you saved my life, and I’m determined to be your friend!"
"If anyone dares to speak ill of you in the future, I, Ji Yang, will be the first to disagree." Although Ji Yang usually had a proud and fiery temperament, he was not a bad person. On the contrary, he had a clear sense of right and wrong. Once he had decided on Qi Xiao, no amount of persuasion from others would easily change his opinion.
For some reason, Qi Xiao felt a bit moved. Perhaps it was because, after experiencing two lifetimes, there were so few who believed in him. Meeting someone as straightforward as Ji Yang touched him deeply. He smiled and nodded. "You are also my friend, Qi Xiao."
Ji Yang grinned widely, revealing his face speckled with dark spots, looking somewhat silly.
When Lu Mingyuan arrived, Qi Xiao shared his thoughts. "Senior Brother Lu, in this northeastern region, there might be mines that the stone locusts have their eyes on. But those mines are not ordinary."
Lu Mingyuan nodded; he had the same idea. "I was thinking about exploring their lair when I saw the stone locusts earlier. It seems we are on the same wavelength, Junior Brother Qi."
After Lu Mingyuan explained, the other disciples finally understood. Although the stone locusts were detestable, they were quite discerning and had an unparalleled ability to select stones—no beast could compare to them in that regard. If they could find their nesting place and excavate some materials, it wouldn’t be a loss.
Ji Yang covered his face and shivered, feeling a pang of fear. "I’m not going! That’s too terrifying! I don’t want to get bitten again." The other disciples who had encountered the stone locusts also felt apprehensive.
"Senior Brother Lu, it’s not that we don’t want to go; it’s just that we lack the ability."
"Those things are ferocious! We barely managed to deal with them when we first encountered them. If we go to their lair, wouldn’t we end up as nothing but bones?"
Lu Mingyuan burst into laughter, "Fellow disciples, you need not worry. The Stone Locust has gone out to seek water and won't be back for a while. Besides, it doesn't have the habit of guarding its lair."
"After all, what it targets are the mines, which are incredibly hard. Even if a deity were to come, it would take quite some time to empty them out. The mines are much safer than they are."
After Lu Mingyuan's explanation, several disciples exchanged glances, hesitating and uncertain.
