In the Xianyao Sect, within the Medicine Hall, Elder Huang was in a state of distress. "What should we do? Those senior brothers and sisters in the back room have coughed up blood again!" His hair seemed to turn grayer with worry.
There was nothing he could do; they were completely out of medicine. Now, all he could do was pin his hopes on that little girl, Lan Wanyu, and see if she could bring back some herbs.
In front of the innermost bed, several young women were gathered, wiping their tears as they comforted one another. "Wanyin, you must hold on! Elder Huang and Sister Lan will surely find a way to save you!"
Upon hearing this, Elder Huang's heart tightened even more. If it were any other poisoned disciple, he would have confidence that Lan Wanyu could bring back the necessary medicine in time to save them. But for Ye Wanyin, he felt a deep sense of unease.
This girl was truly peculiar. After being bitten by a poisonous insect, her complexion was pale, yet she showed no signs of coughing up blood. Her breathing was calm, as if she were merely asleep, but he couldn't find the source of her condition. Elder Huang even suspected that she might have encountered some mutated poisonous creature, which would explain her strange symptoms.
He stepped forward and finally couldn't help but sigh. "Alas, the poison in her body is indeed strange; I am powerless to help."
Hearing this, the young women gasped in shock and hurriedly knelt before Elder Huang, pleading for him to show mercy and save Ye Wanyin's life.
Elder Huang raised his hands in exasperation. "It's not that I don't want to help! It's just that my medical skills are limited! What kind of poison has this girl been afflicted with to cause such unusual symptoms?"
Tears streamed down the faces of the young women as one suddenly recalled something and spoke up anxiously. "I remember that after Sister was poisoned, she took a pill. Could it be related to that pill?"
Elder Huang stepped closer, his eyes sharp. "What pill?"
"I don't know exactly; it seemed to be given to her by some junior brother," one replied.
Another girl suddenly raised her hand. "I remember now! It was that junior brother Qi from Qingjing Peak who gave it to her. Last time, Sister Ye refined a flying artifact for him but didn’t take any spirit stones in return. In a moment of desperation, Sister took one of the pills he gave her."
Elder Huang sighed heavily. "How absurd! How can one play around with medicine like this? If she hadn’t taken that pill back then, perhaps there would still be a chance for her survival."
As these words left his mouth, the anxiety among the young women grew even more intense. "That troublemaker Qi Xia—hasn’t he harmed enough people already? Now he wants to harm Sister Ye too!"
Sister Ye treated him this way, so why should he repay kindness with enmity?
While they were busy cursing here, Elder Huang had no intention of listening. He urged the young girls to take out the medicine for him to study. A few of them quickly stood up and rummaged through Ye Wanyin's jade ring, pulling out a bottle and handing it to Elder Huang.
Once Elder Huang was far away, they couldn't help but start cursing again, as if they wanted to skin Qi Xiao alive to vent their anger.
Qi Xiao had just returned to the disciples' quarters, barely settling down when several sisters from the Artifact Refining Hall came knocking at his door, having heard the news. Their eyelids were red, and their eyes were swollen like walnuts.
One of them didn't say a word and charged straight at him with a sharp sword.
"Qi Xiao, I want you to pay with your life for Sister Ye!"
Qi Xiao dodged swiftly, jumping onto the roof eaves. He noticed a new hole in his robe and felt a pang of regret.
"You crazy woman, how have I offended you? You don't even say a word and just come at me wanting my life?"
The girl stomped her foot in frustration, glaring at Qi Xiao as if she wanted to chop him into pieces with her gaze.
"You heartless scoundrel! How can you still have the face to speak? Sister Ye has become like this because of you!"
Qi Xiao was baffled. "What are you talking about? Stop throwing mud at me!"
"Ah! The things you've done, do you dare deny them?"
The other girls beside her couldn't hold back either, pulling out their weapons and demanding an explanation from Qi Xiao.
Frightened, Qi Xiao quickly took two steps back and pointed at the ground beneath him.
"This is the disciples' quarters; fighting is not allowed! If you dare to make a move here and break something, be careful that Elder Chang will come out and throw you all out!"
The girls were furious upon hearing this.
"Shameless! Qi Xiao, come out! Don't hide inside like a turtle!"
Qi Xiao snorted in confusion. What a bunch of crazy women! They said they wanted to fight him; did he have to fight back? He had just returned and hadn’t even had time for a bath; he didn’t have the energy to deal with them.
Just as Qi Xiao lightly jumped down from the door and prepared to go back inside, the girls almost rushed in with their weapons raised. At that moment, a purple clay teapot suddenly flew out of nowhere and crashed into Qi Xiao's knee.
The teapot struck his right leg, causing both pain and weakness. Unable to control himself, he stumbled out of the disciples' quarters.
A few young women saw this and immediately drew their weapons, the silver glinting menacingly, forcing Qi Xiao to remain motionless.
Damn it, who is plotting against me?
Elder Chang's voice echoed from somewhere, tinged with anger as he snorted coldly. "You brought this trouble upon yourself; deal with it on your own and don't drag my disciples into it!"
Upon hearing this, the young women bowed repeatedly in gratitude, acknowledging Elder Chang's wisdom. The disciples of the Refining Hall expressed their thanks once more.
Qi Xiao rubbed his knee and sighed.
This Elder Chang is unreasonable!
What trouble did he bring upon himself? He had no idea!
When help arrived, they didn’t protect him but instead shielded the disciples of the Refining Hall. One might think he was an elder of the Refining Hall himself.
Sitting on the ground, Qi Xiao resigned himself to his fate. "Alright then, what’s going on?"
Seeing Qi Xiao appear to be ready to confess, the young women looked at him coldly. "If you want to know, just come with us to the Medicine Hall."
With their weapons trained on him, they forced him toward the Medicine Hall, attracting quite a bit of attention along the way.
Feeling inexplicably embarrassed, he couldn't help but plead softly. "Sisters of the Refining Hall, even if I did something wrong, is it really necessary to treat me like a criminal?"
One of the young women scoffed coldly. "We haven't even skinned you alive or pulled your bones out; consider yourself lucky! And you still dare to talk back!"
As she spoke, the sword pressed against his neck moved a few inches closer. Qi Xiao immediately held his breath and raised his hands in surrender.
It was all his fault; he was simply too slow and got caught by these crazy women.
Upon entering the Medicine Hall, they pushed him in front of a bed and demanded that he open his eyes wide to see.
One of the young women couldn't hold back her tears and threw down her weapon. "It's all your fault! If it weren't for your medicine, Sister Ye wouldn't be in this half-dead state! What did you give her?"
Qi Xiao frowned as he stepped forward to pry open Ye Wanyin's eyelids for a closer examination. He then grasped her wrist gently to check her pulse.
A girl nearby attempted to stop him but was held back by her companions. She could only wait reluctantly, her eyes fixed on Qi Xiao as if trying to find a flaw in him.
