"Where is Qi Xiao?"
A defeated subordinate, Ji Linglong didn't pay much attention to it. What concerned her more was how to regain her standing from Qi Xiao.
That kid left Qingxuan Peak without a word, making her wait in vain. If he didn't come back soon, she would almost suspect that he had fled the sect out of fear of losing.
A round-faced, honest-looking cultivator hurriedly spoke up, "Senior Brother Qi seems to be in his room. He hasn't come out since returning from the Apothecary Hall yesterday."
Ji Linglong slightly curled her lips and walked over to Qi Xiao's room, pushing the door open without hesitation.
Sure enough, he was inside, cultivating.
Hearing the noise, Qi Xiao frowned in displeasure. Did people just barge into others' rooms without a greeting?
Leaning lazily against the door frame, Ji Linglong squinted and smiled. "If one day you could walk around like me without needing to greet anyone, you wouldn't mind."
Qi Xiao was taken aback and silently cursed her as a bandit in his heart. "I didn't know Senior Sister Linglong was here today. What brings you?"
"I came to see how your training is going. I'm worried you might be too weak and get knocked down before I even get a chance to enjoy the fight."
Qi Xiao twitched his lips, feeling like Ji Linglong had turned him into a human punching bag.
"Thank you for your concern, Senior Sister."
"But in just a few days, you've actually made a breakthrough."
Qi Xiao pondered silently; if he faced Ji Linglong with his Foundation Establishment cultivation while she was on guard, victory would be nearly impossible. But now that he had broken through, he wanted to test whether her spiritual defense was still as formidable as before.
Ji Linglong narrowed her eyes slightly, a fierce battle intent igniting within them. "I think we shouldn't wait for the monthly evaluation; why don't we have a match right now?"
"That sounds good."
Qi Xiao got out of bed and walked with Ji Linglong to the training ground.
Many disciples noticed the two of them coming together and sensed something significant was about to happen, rushing to spread the word. In no time, a crowd gathered around the training ground.
However, before Qi Xiao could even take his stance, a disciple from the Apothecary Hall rushed over, panting heavily and sweating profusely.
"Senior Brother Qi! You need to come with me to the Apothecary Hall!"
"What happened?"
"We'll talk on the way."
Qi Xiao followed him, while Ji Linglong felt dissatisfied. She initially wanted to stop him but withdrew her hand at a glance from him.
Crossing her arms, she muttered unhappily, "Fine, I'll let you off this time."
As the crowd realized that a fight would not break out, disappointment spread among them, and they began to disperse. In the midst of the crowd, Cheng Yufeng sighed at the missed opportunity but soon clenched his fists again. Hmph, it doesn’t matter; the two of them will have their battle sooner or later! Even if not today, it will be another day.
Cheng Yufeng blended into the crowd, turned around, and vanished from sight. He caught a glimpse of Bai Zonghua hastily leaving and quickly followed after him.
“Brother Bai, long time no see. Hope you’ve been well,” he called out.
Bai Zonghua let out a cold snort, barely acknowledging him. Seeing this, Cheng Yufeng felt a flash of anger but suppressed it as he recalled his plans.
“Brother Bai, I know you have feelings for Sister Linglong. I can lend you a hand,” he said.
Bai Zonghua immediately stopped in his tracks. “What do you mean by that?”
Cheng Yufeng smiled slightly and beckoned him to follow. They moved to a corner where Cheng Yufeng whispered something in Bai Zonghua's ear. Soon, Bai Zonghua’s eyes lit up with interest.
He hesitated, “Is this for real?”
“Of course! Once this poison takes effect, even an immortal can’t escape! If you manage to place this curse on that woman, Ji Linglong will develop a fondness for the one who holds the mother curse and become infatuated,” Cheng Yufeng explained.
“Ji Linglong is naturally proud; what do you think will happen if she discovers that it was Qi Xiao who cursed her?”
Bai Zonghua froze. He had initially felt excited, but the more he listened, the more uneasy he became. He wanted Ji Linglong’s favor; why would he take a shortcut that involved placing the mother curse on Qi Xiao instead?
Seeing his confusion, Cheng Yufeng sighed and said, “Brother Bai, you don’t understand. This curse won’t last more than three months. Once time is up and the curse dies, its effectiveness will vanish.”
“If you place it on yourself, wouldn’t you be inviting disaster upon yourself? But if you secretly place it on Qi Xiao and Sister Linglong instead, when the time is right and you expose it, Sister Linglong will surely view you in a new light and see you as someone she can rely on.”
“Isn’t this approach more effective than cursing yourself?”
Bai Zonghua was overjoyed and patted Cheng Yufeng on the shoulder repeatedly. “You really think things through, Brother Cheng.”
Hearing him call him “Brother,” Cheng Yufeng’s lips twitched slightly as a flicker of malice crossed his eyes. If it weren’t for his desire to eliminate Qi Xiao, why would he bother associating with someone like Bai Zonghua who was beneath him?
Bai Zonghua accepted the title of “brother” with such shamelessness; how brazen could he be?
Cheng Yufeng regained his composure and forced a smile as he slipped a small box into Bai Zonghua's hands, quietly surveying the surroundings.
Once he confirmed that no one was around, he spoke again, "Everything is in your hands now, Senior Brother!"
After he left, the once cheerful Bai Zonghua suddenly darkened his expression, his eyes filled with a heavy gloom.
Hmph, you want me to step forward and do the killing? You should consider whether you're worthy of that!
However, your plan is quite clever; I will gladly accept it.
Before he could make a move, someone rushed in with a proposal and even took the blame for it—why not take advantage of that?
Bai Zonghua tucked away the items in his hands and hummed a little tune as he floated away.
Meanwhile, in the Apothecary Hall, Qi Xiao entered the inner chamber, feeling puzzled.
After a while, the cultivator who had brought him there earlier timidly walked in from outside.
Behind him trailed a large group of cultivators—the same ones who had surrounded Qi Xiao that day.
He crossed his arms and smiled coldly.
"Oh, so you all tricked me here to give me a beating and vent your frustrations from that day?"
At this remark, the expressions of the crowd changed dramatically. Several of them immediately rushed forward, pleading earnestly.
"Junior Brother Qi, we were blind to your greatness; please forgive us!"
Some cultivators who had been standing behind them were also intimidated by their gazes and followed suit in their pleas.
Qi Xiao sidestepped to avoid their gestures of respect.
With a half-smile, he remarked, "I remember clearly what you all have done to me!"
The group expressed their regret repeatedly.
"Junior Brother Qi, it was our mistake; who doesn't know that you are the kindest person on Qingjing Peak? That so-called Junior Brother Ye is nothing!"
"Exactly! And that Lan Wanyu is so stingy; she wouldn't even part with a few evening primrose for our alchemy."
"If you ask me, you're the generous one; you are truly the kind-hearted person! After reflecting over these past few days, we realized our unease and wanted to invite you here to apologize in person."
"Oh? So you want to apologize? I thought you were kneeling so earnestly to morally blackmail me!"
