In this place, the sun and moon were nowhere to be seen, and there was no distinction between light and dark; all day long, the sky was a hazy yellow.
Qi Xiao wandered here in a daze, dying and being reborn, losing track of how long he had spent in this realm. It could have been a few months or perhaps even over a decade.
At the end of the stone bridge, jagged boulders stood like a giant dragon decaying in this spot, its flesh and blood eroded away, leaving only a stark white skeletal frame. The sight was both grand and desolate at the same time.
Qi Xiao tightened his nerves and moved slowly through the stone forest. To his surprise, it was eerily quiet here; there was no sign of movement. Could it be that he was being overly suspicious? Was there really no monster lurking around?
No, this dreamscape could not be so simple! He had made similar mistakes before—once he was suddenly devoured by a sandworm that sprang from the ground, and another time he was swarmed by a group of disguised man-eating butterflies.
Recalling those past tragedies, Qi Xiao clenched his fists and cautiously advanced. Finally, at the end of the path, there was a faint sound around him. A small stone fell with a plop from above his head. He looked up to see a figure suddenly appear atop one of the towering boulders.
With a handsome face framed by white hair, Qing Shuang stood with his hands clasped behind his back, yawning as he smiled down at Qi Xiao.
“Ha ha, I’ve been waiting here for so long, and someone actually found their way here?”
“Waiting?” Qi Xiao took a few steps back and performed a respectful gesture. “May I ask if you are a resident of this dreamscape?”
“Dreamscape?” The man pondered for a moment and nodded slightly. “That’s not entirely incorrect. I have long since died and faded away; what remains here is merely a fragment of my thoughts.”
Qi Xiao lowered his head even further. “Disciple pays respects to the Ancestor. May I ask for your name?”
“I am but a nameless soul who has long since passed; why do you need to inquire?” The man chuckled softly as he leaped down from the boulder to stand beside Qi Xiao.
He circled around Qi Xiao several times, his brow gradually furrowing. “No, no, something’s off. How is it that your cultivation is so low? This dreamscape is meant for cultivators above the Nascent Soul stage; how did you manage to come here?”
“To prevent some naive little cultivators from stumbling in by mistake, I even set up barriers outside the dreamscape; unless one reaches the Nascent Soul stage, they cannot enter.”
Qi Xiao scratched his face awkwardly. “It was Elder Qi who helped me gain entry.” He felt as though he had wandered into someone else’s examination room.
After hearing about the events that led him here and learning that Qi Xiao had died multiple times at the first trial, the white-haired man fell silent.
"Heh, I never expected that after my death, the younger generation of cultivators would have such a hardcore way of training."
The white-haired man thought to himself that although one wouldn't die in this dream, no one wanted to keep dying. After dying several times and realizing his strength was insufficient, he naturally chose to give up. However, he didn't expect this kid to take advantage of the fact that he couldn't die and recklessly push his way through to this point.
Unable to hold back any longer, the white-haired man finally spoke, "You’ve died so many times; don’t you fear it?"
Qi Xiao scratched his head. "At first, I was scared, but after a while, I just stopped feeling anything. After all, I can't really die."
"Even if you can't die, you will inevitably develop a heart demon. Don't you have any shadows in your heart?"
Qi Xiao couldn't help but glance at him with a hint of grievance. "But senior, once you step onto the first barrier, there's no turning back. Wasn't this opportunity set by you? I have no other choice but to move forward."
"If it were possible, I would really like to take a break."
The man fell silent even more.
"Don't you know that if you just shout 'I give up,' this dream will automatically eject you?"
Qi Xiao was dumbfounded.
How could he not know anything?
Old man Qi had truly misled him!
The white-haired man looked at him with pity. "Although you stumbled your way here by accident, since you've passed the trials, I should reward you."
Qi Xiao's eyes brightened slightly. He wondered what kind of reward the senior had prepared.
Seeing his expression change so quickly, the man snorted and strolled leisurely.
"I created this dream not only to train my juniors but also to select a talented individual among them to inherit my teachings. Although you're just at the Golden Core stage now and your soul is barely at the Nascent Soul level, since you've come this far, I will impart all my insights and cultivation to you."
"You are not an ordinary Golden Core cultivator; I can see that you also cultivate your soul. This means we are fated to meet. Giving this to you isn't too much of a loss for me."
A brilliant sphere of light emerged in the man's hand. As it got closer to Qi Xiao, the light sphere suddenly dove into his body.
"The contents within are too powerful; I've placed a restriction on it. You can only unlock it when you possess sufficient strength."
Qi Xiao never expected that behind this dream lay such a tremendous opportunity!
He bowed deeply. "Senior is bestowing teachings upon me; naturally, I must address you as my master. May I ask for your name?"
The man turned his back and casually replied, "Immortal Nanming."
"Immortal?"
Before Qi Xiao could ask further questions, the surrounding scenery began to shatter inch by inch, peeling away like dried murals.
The ground shook violently, and darkness enveloped the world as a fierce wind swept through, completely engulfing Qi Xiao's consciousness.
At the same time, a tremendous noise erupted from the Scripture Pavilion, causing it to tremble violently, prompting countless disciples to flee in panic. Suddenly, a burst of colorful light exploded from within the pavilion, shooting straight into the sky.
Witnessing this scene, all the elders on the peaks wore solemn expressions and hurried over.
"Elder Qi, what on earth is happening here?" Fan Wuyou stepped forward and shouted sternly.
Elder Qi looked at the half-collapsed Scripture Pavilion and sighed, slapping his thigh. "I don't know either. When we entered that secret realm back then, it didn't cause such a commotion!"
"Secret realm? Who entered that secret realm?"
The existence of this secret realm was not a secret among the elders of the Xiaoyao Sect; it was said to contain supreme celestial fortunes. However, every elder who entered came out without having gained anything substantial. "Are the challenges inside even passable for humans? One misstep could lead to death. After dying several times, they would surely develop heart demons! What supreme celestial fortunes? It's nothing but nonsense!"
After a long while, this secret realm was locked away at the top of the Scripture Pavilion and completely set aside.
Fan Wuyou cleared his throat, feeling somewhat embarrassed. "Only elders are allowed to enter this secret realm. Although it's been put aside, it's still an extraordinary resource. Allowing a disciple to enter makes me feel a bit uneasy."
"I let that Qi Xiao in," someone spoke up.
"Who is Qi Xiao?"
Upon hearing an explanation, everyone suddenly realized. "But how could a single disciple cause such a huge uproar?"
One person spoke with a hint of suspicion, "Could that celestial fortune actually be real?"
The crowd exchanged glances and quickly denied it. "Impossible! None of us were able to obtain it back then; how could a mere Golden Core disciple get it?"
