Xue Tinghe felt unwilling, her doubts lingering.
"Wait? But I heard that Master Han Ying and the other senior sisters from Qingjing Peak dote on you. How could you be expelled?"
Qi Xiao let out a faint, cold laugh.
"If this had been said a few days ago, it might have made sense. But now, it’s simply ironic."
"You two must have misheard. What you heard was not about me, but about the new disciple at Qingjing Peak, Ye Xiuyuan."
Xue Tinghe looked him up and down, her brows slightly furrowing.
"What kind of cultivation does he have? Is he stronger than you?"
"If that were the case, Master Han Ying wouldn’t have expelled him only to take in another disciple afterward."
Qi Xiao paused for a moment, his expression peculiar.
"He has a damaged meridian and is only at the Qi Refining stage."
Xue Tinghe's frown deepened.
"So he must have some extraordinary talent in another aspect?"
"Talent?"
Regardless of whether it was in his past life or this one, he had never heard of Ye Xiuyuan possessing any remarkable talent. The most he had heard was how Ye Xiuyuan got along harmoniously with his senior sisters and master.
Qi Xiao shook his head, "No, he doesn’t."
Xue Tinghe was dissatisfied. "Are you messing with me? If he has neither talent nor strength, how did he end up at Qingjing Peak? If even you can’t compare to him, is Master Han Ying blind?"
Upon hearing this, for some reason, Qi Xiao felt as if he had been insulted.
"Perhaps it’s because he has a good father! Elder Ye is a low-grade alchemist; wanting to help his son isn’t anything unusual."
Xue Tinghe paused for a moment, not agreeing with him.
"The cultivation world values strength above all else; even when it comes to taking on a master, such nepotism is generally looked down upon."
"And after this incident, I’ve already fallen out with Qingjing Peak. If you don’t believe me, feel free to ask other disciples from the Xiaoyao Sect who know me."
Lu Yuan rushed over upon hearing the commotion.
"I can testify that Junior Brother Qi is indeed innocent."
He looked at the two who still seemed skeptical and couldn’t help but add a few more words.
Speaking of the differential treatment between Qi Xiao and Ye Xiuyuan at Qingjing Peak, Xue Tinghe couldn’t help but show a hint of pity.
Qi Xiao quickly interrupted, "No, no! That’s all in the past; please don’t look at me like that."
Xue Tinghe let out a helpless sigh, increasingly convinced that he was desperately trying to conceal his emotions in order to salvage his dignity.
Qi Xiao furrowed his brow, suddenly feeling an indescribable sensation. He pulled Lu Yuan aside. "Senior Brother, why don’t you say a little less?"
Lu Yuan struggled to contain his words. As a disciple of the Xiaoyao Sect, he was not allowed to speak ill of his superiors. In the past, although he felt discontent while at the sect, he could not voice it directly. Now that he had finally encountered two normal people, he couldn't help but speak a bit more.
Scratching his head, he smiled somewhat sheepishly.
Xue Tinghe pressed her lips together, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Junior Brother Qi, you don’t mind me addressing you like this, do you? I was impulsive earlier; please don’t take it to heart."
If they were truly disciples of the Qingjing Peak, venting her frustrations wouldn’t matter much. However, the person she had set her sights on happened to be an unfortunate soul, which stirred a sense of guilt within Xue Tinghe.
Suddenly, Qi Xiao seemed to recall something and slightly curved his lips. "But with Floating Island being so lively, it’s quite possible you might run into someone you wish to meet."
Xue Tinghe's eyes brightened with interest. "Oh? Are you suggesting that they might come to the island?"
"Not just possibly; they definitely will."
If Xue Tinghe could take action, perhaps she could help him eliminate a significant trouble.
Meanwhile, the flying boat gradually descended as several young women jumped down from it.
Yu Miaoyin stepped onto the damp mud and sand, quickly hopping a few steps onto the stony ground beside her while glancing at the dirt on her feet with disdain. "Senior Sister, why do we have to sneak in from this side? My skirt is all dirty now!"
Song Xiaoling tapped her fingers against Yu Miaoyin's forehead. "Stop complaining and pay more attention to where you're going."
Not receiving the answer she wanted, Yu Miaoyin pouted and summoned her crafted flying artifact to sit on it.
However, as soon as the artifact rose to about a person's height, Yu Miaoyin felt as if someone had slapped her. She immediately fell off the artifact, which then landed on the ground like a lifeless object. No matter how she called out to it, she couldn't awaken it.
Yu Miaoyin's eyes widened in fright as she stumbled over her words. "My artifact is broken!"
Song Xiaoling frowned and wandered around for a moment before her expression deepened with concern. "Second Sister, did you notice something?"
Song Xiaoling reached out and patted her hand; instantly, her palm rippled like the surface of a lake. "You can’t fly; it’s likely due to this formation. It seems we can only proceed on foot."
She raised her head to gaze at the sky, where a golden beam of light still lingered, radiant and brilliant like the sun. The glow from this beam enveloped the entire island; from a distance, it seemed unremarkable, but standing in its presence was a breathtaking experience.
But why was there a forbidden space formation? What lay hidden above that beam of light? Countless questions swirled in her mind, yet Song Xiaoling took the lead and stepped forward.
Seeing this, the others followed suit, crossing through the thin veil of light. Shortly after they entered, a young man quietly maneuvered a magical artifact toward them, careful not to alert Su Lingyue and the others as he trailed behind at a distance.
Ye Xiuyuan felt anxious. As a mere Qi Refining stage cultivator, he felt out of place on this island.
"System, are you sure this will work?"
The system assured him that it could temporarily lower his charm value. With a reduced charm value, his presence would diminish significantly. As long as he didn't intentionally reveal himself, no one would notice him. Even if they did see him, they wouldn't pay him any mind.
Ye Xiuyuan was skeptical. The system spoke with conviction, yet he had witnessed its ruthless side before. Doubt gnawed at him, prompting him to repeatedly seek reassurance for some illusory sense of security.
The system responded with exasperation, "How many times do I have to tell you? If you don’t believe me, I can cancel this operation."
Startled, Ye Xiuyuan quickly reassured it. "That's not what I meant! I'm just scared; you understand that, right? Think about it—I'm just a lowly Qi Refining stage cultivator, while you're after treasures that everyone on this floating island desires! Even if you lower my charm value, will it still work once I get that item?"
The system, concealed within his body, lifted its gaze toward the golden beam above with greedy anticipation. "Don't worry; I've devised a foolproof plan. You won't be harmed."
Ye Xiuyuan smiled sweetly and nodded in agreement, but inside he remained on high alert.
