Indeed, Elder Huang, despite being an alchemist and a Nascent Soul cultivator, was actually bewitched by those things?
Elder Nan stepped forward and sighed as well. What on earth were those things that could be so strange?
They were most likely from the Demon Realm. Not long ago, they had hurriedly made their way to Wangjing City to contact Elder Huang, only to find that they couldn't reach him at all. Everyone was alarmed, thinking that Elder Huang had encountered some danger in the city. When they finally arrived at Wangjing, they found him standing motionless among the flowers.
His legs were entangled in vines, his expression blank, and his eyes devoid of life. They called out to him but received no response whatsoever. It was only when Master Qingxu realized he had been enchanted by the flowers that he stepped forward to recite a calming incantation, hoping to bring him back to his senses.
However, for some reason, Elder Huang mistook him for a demon and began mumbling to himself, preparing to attack. They didn’t pay much attention to his tightly bound legs; instead, they gathered together to discuss how to rescue Elder Huang. Just then, while they were distracted, the vines quietly withdrew, and Elder Huang suddenly launched a deadly strike, startling everyone.
Fortunately, he aimed at Master Qingxu. Thankfully, Master Qingxu was powerful enough. Even though he was caught off guard, he managed to handle the situation with ease.
A quarter of an hour later, Elder Huang slowly regained consciousness. Upon seeing familiar faces around him, his eyes reddened with sorrow. "I just saw so many demons; they even targeted innocent women and children. Unfortunately, my strength is limited, and I was knocked unconscious before I could take them down. I truly feel guilty."
He glanced around and spoke in an increasingly somber tone. "You must have exerted considerable effort to rescue me; I’ve caused you trouble. Once we return, if you need any spiritual herbs, just ask me."
Elder Chang squatted down and patted his shoulder. "You indeed caused us some trouble. It's good that you have this awareness; however, the demons you saw were likely us."
"Huh?" Elder Huang stood there in shock.
The other elders began to chime in about what had happened at that time, and he finally understood. It turned out he had been enchanted by those flowers and had mistaken everyone for demons.
"Old Huang," one elder teased, "you are a Nascent Soul cultivator and an alchemist; how could you stumble because of a flower? Won't it be embarrassing if this gets out?"
"Indeed," another added with a chuckle. "Fortunately for you, your strength is average but your courage is not small; you chose the toughest opponent right away! If you had picked one of us instead, who knows what might have happened."
Elder Huang felt his face flush with embarrassment from their teasing.
"Alright, alright, you all take the opportunity to mock me. Just make sure you don’t embarrass yourselves in front of me next time, or I’ll make sure to return the favor," he said.
Seeing him regain his spirits, everyone chuckled and dispersed. It was easy to predict that this incident would soon become a hot topic among the members of the Xiaoyao Sect.
Standing in mid-air, Master Qingxu watched as Elder Huang approached and said leisurely, "Elder Huang, what are your thoughts on this flower?"
Elder Huang pondered for a moment. "This flower seems to possess intelligence and a certain capacity for thought. It created an illusion of a demon killing people when it sensed the members of the Xiaoyao Sect approaching, and it even retracted its vines at the right moment when they let their guard down."
"This level of intelligence has clearly surpassed that of ordinary spiritual plants. This flower is ominous; its malicious intent is evident. Such cleverness in creating inner demons to manipulate cultivators indicates that it is undoubtedly not a flower native to our realm but rather something belonging to the demon race."
Elder Huang's expression turned grave. "If these flowers were to spread everywhere, it would likely lead to chaos not just from the demons but also within the human realm itself."
"But if the demon race has such a lethal weapon, why haven’t they used it before?" he wondered aloud.
Master Qingxu replied solemnly, "Either this flower is too rare to be used on a large scale, or its cultivation conditions are exceedingly harsh."
Elder Huang was taken aback for a moment, looking at the flowers that had bravely sprouted through the cracks in the bricks. He felt that Master Qingxu's words were somewhat implausible.
If it were rare, how could it bloom all over the city? If its cultivation conditions were harsh, how could it grow from between stones?
With a forced laugh, Elder Huang said, "Master Qingxu, are you joking?"
"I'm not joking. What you see is flowers blooming all over the city; what I see is only one plant," Master Qingxu replied.
Elder Huang frowned slightly, puzzled by his meaning. "What do you mean by that?"
Meanwhile, at Qingjing Peak, Yu Miaoyin squatted outside the herb garden fence, looking pitifully at Lan Wanyu.
Lan Wanyu felt somewhat helpless. "Third Senior Sister, even if you stay here for a day, I won’t agree to your request."
Yu Miaoyin huffed lightly. "Then I’ll stay for two days or three days; I’ll just stay here until I get sunburned."
Lan Wanyu felt increasingly helpless. "Third Senior Sister, you are already a Golden Core cultivator. Even if you sunbathe until the end of time, the sun on Qingjing Peak won't harm you."
"Is that so?" Yu Miaoyin sulked and changed her excuse. "Then I’ll just starve to death. That should be acceptable, right?" She elongated her voice, sounding pitiful.
"Fourth Junior Sister, please have mercy and agree to my request."
Lan Wanyu hesitated for a moment but then firmly replied, "No."
Ever since Yu Miaoyin had woken up with a muddled mind a few days ago, she had been clamoring to see Qi Xiao. Despite all the senior sisters telling her that they had severed ties with him, she refused to believe it.
"Xiao Liu is too soft-hearted; how could he really sever ties just like that?" she insisted. "Even if I made some mistakes that angered him before, as long as I apologize sincerely, Xiao Liu will definitely soften his heart."
As Yu Miaoyin expressed her thoughts, the gazes of the senior sisters became increasingly complex. Not only did they refuse to agree with her, but they also urged her to stay at Qingjing Peak and focus on her recovery.
Then they turned to Lan Wanyu and asked if she had any better remedies for her mind.
"Hmph, they just think my mind is muddled," Yu Miaoyin thought. "My mind isn’t muddled at all; it’s theirs that’s wrong."
Since they wouldn’t agree, Yu Miaoyin planned to descend the mountain herself. But unexpectedly, she was discovered by the First Senior Sister, who was accompanied by their Master.
The First Senior Sister turned pale with fright and hurriedly pulled her down to kneel before their Master. "Master, Third Junior Sister didn’t mean it; she was just confused for a moment and hasn’t recovered properly. I will make sure to keep a close eye on her from now on."
Her tone was urgent, as if she feared their Master greatly.
But was their Master really that terrifying in her memory? Besides, didn’t Master seem to like Qi Xiao very much?
Before she could say anything more, the First Senior Sister covered her mouth.
Yu Miaoyin caught a glimpse of their Master’s gaze sweeping over her with an indifferent expression that was tinged with a hint of icy disdain, making her feel as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.
"This shall not happen again."
