Yú Miàoyīn stood in a daze. Even after Master Hán Yǐng had left, she still found it hard to regain her composure.
Sū Língyuè glanced at her and sighed softly. "Junior Sister, you should listen to Master and focus on recovering your health first."
Yú Miàoyīn lowered her head and mumbled an acknowledgment. The disdain in Master’s gaze had felt all too real.
"Senior Sister, has Master always been this indifferent?"
Sū Língyuè was taken aback, also finding it strange. Although Master did not favor Qí Xiāo, she had always valued Junior Sister highly. Despite Junior Sister’s recent disobedience due to her illness, Master shouldn’t have been so cold; the way she looked at Junior Sister earlier was as if she were staring at a stranger.
Moreover, in recent days, Master had shown no concern for Junior Sister at all.
A heaviness settled in Sū Língyuè's heart as she recalled Master's views on Qí Xiāo and the matter of Junior Sister’s damaged spirit. A sense of melancholy washed over her. Could it be that Master felt Junior Sister’s spirit was irreparably harmed and believed it would hinder her cultivation, thus leading to her disdain?
Sū Língyuè shivered slightly and forced a smile. "Master is probably just overwhelmed with trivial matters from the sect and feeling a bit irritable."
"Let’s not dwell on this anymore; I’ll accompany you for a stroll around the mountain."
Yú Miàoyīn tugged at her sleeve playfully. "Senior Sister, I’ve already explored all of Qīngjìng Peak; there’s really nothing left to see. Why don’t you let me go down the mountain?"
Sū Língyuè furrowed her brow, her expression turning serious.
Yú Miàoyīn raised her hands in a vow. "I promise I won’t seek out Qí Xiāo."
Sū Língyuè sighed lightly. "Even if you wanted to find him, you wouldn’t be able to; he left Xiāoyáo Sect half a month ago to travel."
"Then why are you keeping me locked up?"
"Hmph! We’re worried that you might go straight to Qīngxuán Peak. If you cause trouble in front of Master again, she will definitely punish you."
"Why is that?"
Sū Língyuè coughed twice, a hint of embarrassment flashing across her face. "In any case, don’t go to Qīngxuán Peak or look for Qí Xiāo. Most importantly, don’t let anything happen that would reach Master’s ears."
"You are a disciple of Qīngjìng Peak; if Master expels someone and you go chasing after them, she will inevitably feel humiliated."
"We’re keeping you here because we’re afraid you might anger Master."
Yun Miaoyin was determined to reconcile, but Qi Xiao regarded them as a threat and had long since grown weary of their presence. Her one-sided pursuit would undoubtedly lead to trouble. Moreover, Yun Miaoyin had lost many memories; even if they repeatedly warned her, she would still misjudge the situation. Not to mention, she didn't believe them and held onto fantasies about their relationship.
Rather than let her embarrass herself and attract trouble that would earn her Master’s reprimand, it was better to keep her confined for now. Yun Miaoyin felt a hint of dissatisfaction; she had heard enough of their nagging that it was starting to grate on her ears.
"Senior Sister, if you’re so worried, why not come down with me? Staying on Qingjing Peak is making me feel like I'm going moldy," she said.
Most importantly, she found it hard to imagine that Qi Xiao, who had grown up with them, could let their relationship deteriorate to such an extent. However, when she pressed for reasons, they hesitated and seemed unable to articulate their thoughts. When she probed further, they grew irritated and simply told her to recuperate. Perhaps once her spirit was restored, she might remember everything.
Yun Miaoyin felt reluctant; since they refused to tell her anything, she decided to descend the mountain and seek answers herself. She blinked innocently and raised a finger, speaking earnestly. "Senior Sister, I promise I won’t run off."
Su Lingyue hesitated for a moment. Seeing her so certain softened her heart, and she finally agreed.
"Hey, Qi Xiao, what about that little villain who harmed the sect? Wasn't he already driven out by Qingjing Peak? What could he possibly be doing now?" Yun Miaoyin asked as she placed her hands on her hips and gritted her teeth.
"He’s not the kind of person you think he is! If you keep spouting nonsense, don’t blame me for being rude!"
Su Zhongyuan looked at her in surprise, as if seeing a stranger. He lifted the curtain and hurried outside. "Didn’t you say that yourself earlier? How come it’s suddenly my fault now?"
"I said that? What nonsense are you talking about?"
Su Zhongyuan circled around her, scratching his head in confusion. "I thought you were just trying to scare me. Have you really lost your memory?"
Yun Miaoyin felt slightly embarrassed but raised her chin proudly and replied coolly, "If I hadn’t lost my memory, why would I be looking for you? Just say what you know."
Su Zhongyuan was one of her sycophants; he had previously asked her to forge an expensive weapon for him. The weapon was completed, but he still owed most of the payment in spirit stones. To curry favor with her, Su Zhongyuan had done quite a bit for her.
After a moment of hesitation, Su Zhongyuan said, "Well then, just don’t hit me when you hear this. All this is just hearsay; some of it is what you told me before. I’m just relaying it—I don’t mean to express my personal opinion!"
"Come on, just say it already!"
Yu Miaoyin was a bit impatient, urging him to hurry up.
Su Zhongyuan cleared his throat, carefully choosing his words as he began to explain.
After listening, Yu Miaoyin slammed her palm on the stone table, making a loud noise. "How is that possible? Xiao Liu would actually go so far as to frame him out of jealousy for that person named Ye? To make things difficult for him and even want to kill him? With his frail condition, what could he possibly be jealous of?"
"Calm down for a moment. I already said I didn’t want to talk about it, but you insisted. Now that I’ve said it, you don’t believe me," Su Zhongyuan replied.
"Stop with the nonsense! Where did you hear such ridiculous things?"
Su Zhongyuan swallowed hard, hesitating to speak. "Well... I heard it from you."
"Impossible! Don’t slander me!"
Su Zhongyuan felt like crying without tears. "Your Qingjing Peak is also under the protection of a powerful deity. If you didn’t say such things first, which disciple would be foolish enough to spread gossip about Qingjing Peak? Besides, it’s not just you; your senior sisters and junior sisters all seem to echo your words. That’s why everyone in the Xiaoyao Sect believes it."
"If one person speaks ill of Qi Xiao, that might just be their personal issue. But if everyone who has interacted with Qi Xiao says the same thing, it’s hard not to believe it."
Su Zhongyuan held his head in frustration. "Don’t look at me! Just ask any random disciple from the Xiaoyao Sect; they all say the same thing."
Yu Miaoyin slowly set down her bottle, feeling reluctant to accept this information. "But how did things escalate to this point? Even if other senior sisters and junior sisters did such things, I shouldn’t have done so."
From Su Zhongyuan's tone, it seemed that she had spoken ill of Qi Xiao in front of him more than once before. How could she possibly be that kind of person? Yet Su Zhongyuan also had no reason to deceive her.
Yu Miaoyin bit her lip. "And what about the incident involving the sect? Such a serious accusation should have been reviewed by the elders and my master together. How can you just make such claims?"
