Lin Yuan's first question, knowing the other party could answer his doubts, was straightforward.
"How did your system come into existence?"
This caught the man off guard. He had expected the kid to ask why he was chosen instead.
The reasons for the emergence of the crime system were many, but ultimately, there was only one root cause: the nature of crime itself.
A rugged smile crept onto the man's face, but it only made him appear more menacing, though no one seemed to care at that moment.
"The nature of crime?"
Yes, there were a group of people who had been protected too well, so the rising crime rates and the rats scurrying about had not affected them at all.

"No," came the firm reply.
As the man spoke, his expression turned cold. He had crossed a line, and I couldn't allow him to continue; things should develop according to our established rules.
Lin Yuan caught the meaning behind his words. What did it mean to develop according to your rules?
The man reassured him. "Don't be agitated. When I say according to our trajectory, the goal we pursue is singular: the measure of crime."
It was impossible to completely eradicate all crime; as long as humanity existed, crime rates would persist. However, ultimately, evil could never overpower good, right?
At this point, Lin Yuan had begun to form a preliminary understanding in his mind. In other words, this system was well-intentioned in wanting to reduce crime rates, but for some reason, it had exacerbated the increase in crime rates, even if no explanation was provided at present.
At this moment, they sought another way to save the world. Lin Yuan could sense the bustling activity of the police station; he had thought it had always been this way.
"We've recruited a few new people to gather those criminal elements together, and then we will have our chosen ones resolve them," he continued. "Lin Yuan, I want you to know that you are not the first one selected."
He mentioned that there were no free lunches in this world. However, the current situation had indeed altered his fate.
"Why didn't you say anything before? Why start explaining now?"

Currently, Lin Yuan often felt like he was merely completing a task. Yet he did meet the standards; a sense of contradiction manifested within him, leaving him uncertain about whether he should let go.
It would be too regrettable to give up.
"And what happens after all this?" Lin Yuan asked as he looked at the man before him.
"After all this is done, it's up to you. You should also understand that afterward, you will only grow stronger compared to who you are now."
Indeed, Lin Yuan silently added in his heart. The probability of death would also be higher than others.
Even if you wanted to turn back now, it would be impossible; from the moment you made your decision—Lin Yuan, just keep moving forward.
The moment consciousness detached from that space, Lin Yuan opened his eyes to a bright sky; it was already the next day.
He began his morning routine as usual.

After washing his face, Zheng Rufeng called. He hadn’t taken his phone when he left yesterday, so when the phone rang, it was Zheng Rufeng who answered it.
On the other end, Qing She seemed to suggest that he should head to a nearby mall, where he would provide the first batch of items as agreed.
Wasn’t this a bit risky? When Zheng Rufeng mentioned it, he pretended to be Lin Yuan's friend; it was unclear if the other party had caught on.
Regardless of the risk, he had to go. First, he would stop by the police station to retrieve his phone, and then they could discuss the next steps.

Qing She’s designated meeting place was a large mall with six floors. Lin Yuan needed to go to a partition on the third floor.
A sign indicating repairs was placed in front of the restroom, and there weren’t many people going in.
Lin Yuan glanced around before stepping inside. All the restroom doors were open, and there was no one inside except for the area where mops and cleaning supplies were stored.
In the quiet environment, he could hear another person’s breathing.
His phone vibrated a few times, displaying a message:
“Open the door.”
After reading it, Lin Yuan tucked his phone back into his pocket and pulled open the door.
What greeted him was the dark muzzle of a gun.
A man wearing a snake mask sat casually with his legs crossed, a small silver case beside him, watching Lin Yuan with an air of leisure.
“Nice to meet you for the first time, Lin Yuan. I am Qing She.”
