Wang Jiefang clenched his fists upon hearing these comments through his mental focus. The news had spread through the courtyard overnight, and it was clear someone had deliberately passed it along. It didn’t take much thought to realize that only the Yin family would stoop so low.
He wouldn’t blame Sun Yuwei for these rumors; after all, he knew best what had happened at that time. He was merely worried about Sun Yuwei hearing such things and feeling hurt.
On their way to the street office, Sun Yuwei kept observing Wang Jiefang. She noticed that although he couldn’t see and relied on a cane, he seemed completely aware of the road ahead. He accurately avoided every pothole and raised slab of pavement, walking at a speed that matched her own.
Even when it came time to turn, Wang Jiefang would do so at just the right moment without her prompting! If there were people or obstacles ahead, he could deftly sidestep them without even touching anything with his cane.

Wang Jiefang's grandmother observed him throughout the journey and noticed how well he managed every situation on the road. She nodded in satisfaction.
Before long, they arrived at the street office. The old man guarding the entrance looked at them thoughtfully before saying, "You must be Wang Jiefang, right? Here for your cooking license?"
"Yes, sir! I’m Wang Jiefang, here for my cooking trial!"
The old man glanced at Wang Jiefang's eyes again and said, "Alright, you can go in now. Director Wang is in her office; she has already instructed you to go directly to her."
"Thank you, sir!"
"No problem! Go on in and do your best!"
After the three entered, the doorman shook his head and said, "At my age, I've seen a lot, but this is something else. A blind man coming to try out for the position of head chef? Tsk tsk."
