The prince would see her again.
It was obvious who "she" was.
Zhuo Da and Zhuo Er exchanged a glance, both letting out a sigh of relief.
Before they could say anything further, Jianan adjusted his impeccably clean sleeves that hung elegantly, and commanded, "Prepare the horses."
The two hurried off to get ready. As they descended the stairs, Zhuo Er said with anticipation, "It would be great if Miss Song could really cure our master’s ailment."
Zhuo Da replied, "Indeed."
Yet, he felt a hint of doubt in his heart. Having followed Jianan for over two years, witnessing his journey from a man with no memory and nothing to his name to becoming the King of Beirong, he had come to understand Jianan's character somewhat.
Once he made a decision, it was unlikely to change; he was not one to be forced into action. When he and Zhuo Er had knelt down to propose this idea, Jianan had nodded in agreement, which gave him an unsettling feeling that it had been too easy.
Could it be that their master had already considered asking Miss Song for treatment?
Seeing Zhuo Er so jubilant, he kept this concern to himself.
Upon reaching the ground floor, Zhuo Er brought over the horses while still muttering, "Didn’t the master say he was once a general of the Great Zhou? Does that mean he doesn’t trust us?"
Zhuo Da lowered his head. "How could we possibly guess our master's thoughts?"
That was true. Their master had been brought back to the tribal node under such special circumstances and was a person from Great Zhou. Even he could guess that there was some connection between Jianan and the Great Zhou army; others would surely think the same.
In the court of the Beirong King, there were thousands of tribes, large and small. Some were eager for battle while others preferred peace.
Wasn’t it because they did not want to participate in warfare that they had their livestock, food, and weapons taken by the larger tribes? They had nearly faced extinction during that harsh winter.
What others thought didn’t concern him; after all, their master had saved his life. He vowed to follow him for a lifetime! Anyone who opposed him would have to step over his dead body first!
Zhuo Da was not one for many words, but his eyes reflected the same determination as Zhuo Er's.
"Let’s go," he said as he tightened his grip on the reins. They shouldn’t keep their master waiting too long.
The three mounted their horses and rode out of the city, racing along the mountain path. Zhuo Da and Zhuo Er were warriors of their tribe and excellent hunters on the grasslands, exceptionally skilled at tracking.
The three of them quickly found themselves in a towering, dense forest.
Zhuo Er jumped off his horse, pushed aside the underbrush, and looked up at Jianan. "Master, there are footprints here!"
Jianan also dismounted, allowing the two of them to lead the way as they ventured deeper into the woods.
After a few moments, they arrived at a makeshift camp.
Before them lay filthy bundles, worn-out pottery, remnants of hard food, and a man from the Northern Rong tribe who turned to mush at the sight of them. He clearly hadn’t expected to be found in such a remote place; upon recognizing Jianan's face, his expression turned to one of utmost terror. He forgot to run and fell to his knees with a thud.
"Spare me, Your Majesty! Spare me!" he pleaded, desperately knocking his head against the ground in fear.
Jianan strode forward, approaching him with long strides.
His jade-like features betrayed no emotion—neither joy nor anger. Only his pitch-black eyes resembled winter ice and snow, glimmering with mocking waves.
"You messed up my goods and still had the audacity to hide away like this? With such skills, you deserve a reward."
The man on his knees trembled violently, unable to grasp Jianan's meaning.
"Your Majesty!!!"
His shrill cry echoed through the mountains and forests, causing countless birds to take flight in panic.
In an instant, Jianan struck, severing one of the man's arms with a swift motion. It flew away and landed heavily on the ground!
Bright red blood gushed from the wound!
Jianan's movements were too quick; even Zhuo Da and Zhuo Er nearby didn’t see it clearly. They were only left stunned by the gruesome scene that sent chills down their spines.
