They just wanted to leave a root for their family; what wrong did they do? If there was someone to blame, it should be Chixue Tea for killing their son. It had been six months, and she still hadn’t given them a grandchild to carry on the family line! All the money they spent would be in vain! 0

So when Chixue Tea wanted to leave, they tied her up. Aside from their own family and daughter, no one else knew. If anyone asked, they would say that Chixue Tea had run away. 0

They watched as Captain Chi stepped out of the house, and Chixue Tea's mother-in-law frantically ran towards him. It was all Chixue Tea's fault; she was the disaster that had taken their son away. If it weren't for her, their son would surely still be alive. 0

They had gone through so much trouble to marry her into their family, not to have her cause their son's death. If anyone was to blame, it was her for not having any children of her own. 0

With tears in her eyes, she pointed at Captain Chi. "You are also to blame! If you hadn’t helped arrange a job for Daqing, if Chixue Tea hadn’t wanted to eat meat and if our family hadn’t been broke, how could my son have gone into the mountains? How could he have encountered wolves and been eaten?" 0

Her son’s body was barely recognizable, having been torn apart. 0

Chixue Tea's mother-in-law broke down in tears. The villagers watching felt uneasy as images of Daqing being carried out from the mountains flashed in their minds. A living man, a grown man, reduced to nothing but a quarter of himself; if it weren’t for the familiar clothes and the face that could still be vaguely recognized, Chixue Tea’s mother-in-law would never have accepted that it was her son. 0

They wished they could kill Chixue Tea on the spot. Why should their son die while this wretched woman lived? 0

Captain Chi fell silent after hearing this. He looked down at his crying mother-in-law sitting on the ground. They should never have married Chixue Tea, the harbinger of disaster. Their patriarch should never have saved her father; if he had known it would come to this, he would have ignored them even if it meant his own death. 0

Captain Chi's clenched fists relaxed as he stood there in despair. It was all his fault! If he hadn’t insisted on having Xiaoxue marry into their family, none of this would have happened! 0

He sighed deeply and said, "Let’s just forget about this. I’ll take Xiaoxue with me; you all should take care of yourselves." 0

With that, Captain Chi walked into the house, guilt weighing heavily on him as he looked at Chixue Tea. 0

Chixue glanced at him in disbelief, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. 0

"Dad, is it really going to end like this?" she asked, her eyes filled with hope as she looked at Captain Chi. 0

Captain Chi hesitated to meet her gaze. He opened his mouth, letting out a deep sigh, his face etched with fatigue and struggle. "Daughter, we owe their family two lives. Let’s just leave it at that! I promise to find you something better in the future." 0

"But Dad, what about all the torment I've endured? Just like that, it’s over? What am I worth?" 0

Chixue broke down in tears, her eyes red as she stared at Captain Chi, filled with a mix of longing and anger. 0

"Let’s go, I’ll take you away. You won’t have to suffer anymore. If you don’t want to marry, I’ll support you." 0

Chixue wiped her tears and looked at Captain Chi with reluctance. 0

"I hate you!" 0

Lu Zheng watched as Captain Chi's back suddenly hunched over, his face aging ten years in an instant. 0

Captain Chi walked ahead while Chixue adjusted her clothes and tightly wrapped herself in his coat, following closely behind him. Lu Zheng brought up the rear. 0

"We're out! We're out!" 0

The villagers looked curiously at Chixue, their expressions filled with sympathy for her plight. 0

As they left the courtyard, Chixue's grandmother seemed to finally realize what was happening and angrily grabbed a jar from the wall to throw at Chixue. 0

"Vile girl, die!" 0

Hearing the commotion, Chixue turned just in time to see the jar flying towards her. She widened her eyes in fear and froze in place. 0

Suddenly, someone kicked the jar away. 0

She gasped sharply and then turned to Lu Zheng, her eyes widening slightly as a glimmer of understanding crossed her face. 0

The jar shattered upon impact, and Chixue's grandmother fell to the ground while her grandfather rushed forward to check on her. 0

Captain Chi cast a deep glance at them before leading Chixue and the others away. 0

In the carriage, Chixue sat in the passenger seat, glancing back at Lu Zheng from time to time. 0

Wen Qian watched Lin Si with an expression of intrigue. "So you're saying Lu Zheng saved the day and Chixue fell for him at first sight?" 0

Lin Si smiled awkwardly, "It should be! I heard everyone in the family courtyard saying so, and I even heard that it was Chixue Tea who mentioned it herself." 0

Aunt Tian smacked her lips and shook her head. "If that's the case, then Chixue Tea is indeed a pitiful person!" 0

"Not necessarily," Lin Si replied. "As the saying goes, 'Those who are pitiful must have something hateful about them.' She has her own significant issues." 0

Just based on how Chixue Tea clung to Lu Zheng, it was clear she wasn't a good person. What kind of decent girl would chase after a married man, pressing herself onto him? When he ignored her, she shamelessly kept trying to get closer. 0

Lin Si glanced at Wen Qian, hesitating. "I also heard that when he returned, Lu Zheng saw everything about Chixue Tea?" 0

Some even said that Captain Lu and Chixue Tea had secretly made lifelong commitments to each other, but they just hadn't made it public. Otherwise, why would Chixue Tea have clung to Lu Zheng for so long without him shaking her off? It was clearly suspicious. 0

She looked at Wen Qian and hurriedly explained, "I only heard this; there's no solid evidence. It's just what people in the team are saying. I just overheard it." 0

Wen Qian looked at her apologetic expression and smiled as she shook her head. "It's fine; you can say whatever you want. It has nothing to do with me." 0

The more Wen Qian said this, the more anxious Lin Si and Aunt Tian felt. Now they had let something slip; how could they have talked about this? 0

"Xiao Qian, we all trust Captain Lu. He definitely hasn't done anything to let you down." 0

Wen Qian smiled nonchalantly, but deep down, a seed of doubt was planted in her heart, pricking her like a thorn. What did it matter to her whether Lu Zheng had done anything or not? She never intended to confront him for a lifetime. 0

She thought firmly to herself as her breathing unconsciously quickened, her fingers crushing the sunflower seeds she held. 0

Lin Si looked at her in panic and quickly explained, "Xiao Qian, just treat what I said as nonsense." 0

Wen Qian's lips curled into a smile as she stood up and looked at them. "I'm fine; you don't need to worry about me. After snacking on seeds for so long, I'm sure you're thirsty. I'll go inside and get you some water." 0

With that, she lifted her foot and walked toward the house, her steps lacking the usual steadiness and instead carrying an urgency as if she were fleeing. 0

Lin Si worriedly glanced at Aunt Tian. "Mom, did I say something wrong that made Sister misunderstand?" 0

Aunt Tian's heart raced as she anxiously looked toward the house. 0

At that moment, Lu Zheng was unaware that his home had been ransacked while he faced off against Yang Tong on the training ground. 0

Lu Zheng's eyelids twitched slightly as he narrowed his eyes at Yang Tong standing opposite him. Noticing the other man's unfriendly demeanor, he rubbed his fingers together slightly. 0
